@@ThomasAndStereo There's no doubt you have some good ears on you. I could only describe because I've spent the last six years mostly listening to over a thousand cables lol. The ones you’re buying look well very engineered passive speakers and that is probably why they sound right. Best sounding speakers I’ve had (and still have) are my Genelec 8351B’s. The built in room correction works very well in mitigating room sonic aberrations, clarity is phenomenal. It also makes for a very minimal all digital system. DSP, volume and DAC happens at the speaker. My system now is computer -> USB to AES converter (and re-clock) -> Speakers, and the GLM kit in parallel, not in signal path (a small black box that provides an interface for the computer to control the speakers- can be used with a remote as well). Amazing resolution and life like experience, I haven’t looked back…

I heard those AvantGardes at a show in NY years ago. Loved them. Seriously considered buying them even though they were a good bit out of my budget. The thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was my some self doubt and lack of confidence in what I was hearing, fear of purchasing something that expensive from a company that I had not ever heard of before, and also having no idea how they would sound in my room with my equipment. I still have regrets about it. They were really, really good. I hope you're enjoying them.

A speaker is the single most important part of an audio system. Even so, that speaker is only as good as the components that support it. In these cases, you need the entire package to replicate the sound you hear. That means the cost is not just that of the speakers, but the speaker system. When comparing costs, make sure you keep that in mind.
@greenbeginner3353
@greenbeginner3353 2 жыл бұрын
02:02 A neutral loudspeaker is designed to reproduce what is on the disc or file. If the reproduced music doesn’t sound real, where is the “flaw?” It could be that the loudspeaker, as neutral as it is, is not sufficiently detailed or lacks micro and macro dynamic response. It could be that the components in the playback chain is at fault. It is also possible that the music wasn’t recorded in a way that sounds real. Or, it could be that our expectation is incorrect.

I have yet to hear the Gershmanns. The sound that messed me up forever was at a T.H.E. Show, don't remember what year. Possibly 2012? Anyway, it was WAVAC driving Venture loudspeakers. It sounded REAL. That's all I can say. Real, real, real. Real musicians in the room. It messed me up forever because THAT has become my reference. My system sucks compared to that... I have yet to hear anything like that. My friends shop has had Nola baby grands driven by Soulution, he has also had Wilson's Alexx on display. It still could not touch the WAVAC/Venture combo... Great video BTW. Keep it up!

Thanks for offering a true opinion about speakers. That's one thing you don't hear often as people like to say "sound quality is subjective". Nah, not really. Maybe because I have been into music and playing instruments since 10 years old I have better ears than most. But really it's quite simple, clarity (no hiss or hum), definite notes with mids and bass, vocals that you can hear and discern the words. Or simply: does it sound good?

Totally with you there! Open baffle speakers like the X5 or M3 Saphiers indeed deliver an incredibly natural sound. It's like they bring the musicians right into the room, isn't it? And single-driver speakers like the Pearl Audio Sybelius and Voxativ Ampeggio are something special too. The simplicity in their design often yields a coherence that's hard to match. Put a musician behind a curtain , and a set of high end speakers playing the recorded sound. And if one can pick out the live artist , or the recording... the best speakers would sound exactly like the one who actually played it. The rest would be a personal sound adjustment . I know some speakers go for 40,000 for one, not including the components. So it’s easy to spend a million bucks for perfect or near perfect . I’m a audio file guy but I could never spend that much. In other words, human vocals have colored soul to them. So a cold or even some neutral sounding system aren't good at conveying that tonality. Just my opinion.

By the way, for a $1,000,000 (seriously? not too many positive words come to mind) can't the people who design them actually make them look good, instead of "stupid" if you ask me. Terrible aesthetics, same with the Wilson speakers. why can't audio companies make stuff that looks "cool". normally it's cookie cutter black and they all look the same. Or they make crazy speakers that are "unique", with no worries anyone 'would' copy it.

Interesting that Jay, Thomas and you love these. I have heard them in a showroom but wasn’t wow with the bass or soundstage. Not sure what happen, there was just no magic. I am using Manley Snappers 100wpc amp, do you think that my amps will have enough power to drive them?
@AudioBacon
@AudioBacon 3 жыл бұрын
Might have to give them another listen. From what I've heard so far, 100 wpc might not be enough to maximize the performance of these speakers. I tried them with an LTA Z40 (50wpc) from 9 ft away...and it just wasn't enough juice to be immersed. An extra 3 dB for another 50 watts probably wouldn't have been that big of a difference. 250 wpc...that seems like the minimum. Especially if you want to get as much low-end as you can.

It's so damned subjective which is best and there are as many opinions as there are people . Odd thing is as speakers get more expensive you would expect they would sound more and more alike but they don't. Even at stratospheric prices speakers sound as different from each other as they do from lower priced speakers. I've heard some really high priced speakers that sounded pretty mediocre... at a recent audio show in Toronto I was dumb struck how bad a 250 thousand pair of speakers could sound. I wonder which if any of these pretentious things are truly accurate? Maybe none but they just give a large impressive presentation that people like to hear. I have heard a couple that really impressed me though.

You won't get as much of the micro-detailing, resolution, and transparency with the Harbeth. The 40 series is super smooth and lush though (from memory). More seductive and romantic vs the Avant Garde. But the Avant Garde has the right balance of texture and lifelike resolution...and tone.

In the video you were listening to a jazz band performing with microphones. What´s the character of them and the amp and the speakers and the cables? It´s useless to do this. Go listening to acoustical instruments in different rooms as much as you can. Maybe your ears and memory are good enough to make up your mind. Finally it is impossible to listen to speakers only. You wil always need amplification, a source, cables. And you have to deal with the acoustics of a room. Everything infuences the final result. Being a pro musician, working everyday with live acoustical instruments, for 45 years and a audiophile idiot I can advise a cheaper solution: buy a pair of second hand Magnepan 3 Series. Place them at least 3 feet from the walls. Find out what combination of tube and solid state amps sounds the most natural. Take acoustic measurements in your listening room the find out the best place for your listening chair and speakers. Finally make your own tube cables with air around the copper or silver strain. Listen to high ress audio and a very good turtable. Then you are talking! Make a combination with new and used products. It is possible for a total amount of 10.000 dollar. Even the speakers you advise cost more .......
