@@_Chev_Chelios Hey, Of course many companies can place 1 instrument and play it back in the same space. That was not the point, the point is that they have a lot of instruments and recording space readily available to them. I'm sorry you found it absurd. If you are under the impression that I got paid to say nice things... please check how we work on our "about us" section on our channel. I am sure that there are companies out there that I missed that do have the ability to do the studio thingy but that's why I said "to this extent. to my knowledge." It is just cool and reassuring to know that they have a real instrument in the same space as the "reference" point... it doesn't tell you much about how they would sound at the end of the day. Keep safe bud ! rock on

Having owned three different Gershman models with the last being the Grande Avant Garde. I can say their goal of providing a musical experience is their best achievement. I witnessed listeners of my system emotionally moved, saying to me they have never heard music reproduced so beautifully. Gershman’s transcend to category of speaker to become a fine musical instrument. They are worthy of anyone who appreciates being totally immersed in accurately reproduced music.

My budget was up to 25K. My friend was very impressed by your review, he knew I was looking for my perfect pair and sent me a link to your review on the Gershmans Grands. I have decided to audition a pair and....Oh Boy!!! I fell in love and got them on the spot!! I got everything I was looking for and more. Heard them at a show several years ago. Fantastic. They were out of my price range and then I almost bought a demo pair months later. But it would have been a sight unseen deal and I was newer to the hifi world back then and very wary of spending that much on a speaker from a company I'd never heard of on a speaker I only heard at a show. My Gershman Avant Garde would appreciate more power from my 150W Audio Research amp and 125W Plinius amp. I would agree that 200 Watt or even 300 Watt may serve much better. Gershman would need not only big power, but clean and good power. Cheap digital amps would not do justice on this speaker. I also agree that my Gershman does not sound much better than my Harbeth 7ES-3 at low volume level. At low volume level, actually Harbeth sounds just as good. But at high sound level, there is no comparison. Gershman is a clear winner. I normally listen at 2 o'clock volume level on my Primaluna Dialog Premium preamp.

Just discovered your channel and I’m really enjoying it. Seen ya first over on Guttenbergs. That’s a very interesting speaker. I really like it: the innovations on it are really cool. I must say that I am not usually a fan of full-range speakers tho for one reason; the spot where the speakers go sometimes are not the best place in the room for a sub-woofer. I prefer a separate sub-woofers. Having said that I’d love to hear these.

I saw and heard these at the NY Audio Fair this summer. A real surprise: they were the smallest of the floor standing speakers that I saw there, but easily were the best when it came to frequency range, output and imaging. I agree that their appearance is rather unique: they look like a medieval R2D2 but they take up very little real estate given what they deliver, which is a big plus for a city apartment. What they are not: these won't work with a low-wattage tube setup and, as Jay says, they're not great at low volumes. (So maybe they're not perfect for a city apartment after all!)

@brucermarino4 жыл бұрын
Great job, as usual! Two questions, if I may. (1) Does not the displacement in distance to the listener, for example, a tweeter and a midrange, fundamentally affect the frequency response because of the way their signals will combine constructively or destructively around the crossover frequency? (2) On the dispersion of subwoofers, given that dispersion is largely a function of the size of the radiating surface compared to the wavelength of the frequency being radiated and even at 50 cycles per second (Hz) the wavelength is 22.6 ft or 6.88 m, can dispersion be an issue. Again, thanks for you excellent reviews!

I have similar sound taste I guess. At hifi shows most room demos sound hard and fatiguing to my ears. Wilson and Focal were often at the end of systems I liked. Looks like these Gershman's are a design with little compromise, for example they place the woofer nr bottom of baffle for gain and other benefits. Curious to know frequency the carbon mid crosses. And they have built-in amps. You just need to hear them. Also, a properly designed ported can be just as 'flat' as sealed but thje enclosure done properly eliminates the backwave through the cone thing you mentioned. But that platform is a gimmick. Sorry. You have to hear how clean but how silky the Adams are. And once you go ribbons, you will never go back to dome.

Great explained review Jay! Another price worthy manufacturer that sounds exactly as your description is the Aurum Cantus V series speakers, but much cheaper that would be nice if you could get your hands on for comparison. The substitute model for the Gershman Avant Gard would be the Aurum Cantus V10F or the V12F model version ( It got almost the same specs also ). Have an great evening! Regards Fredrik from Sweden

That hollow speaker base along with those 4 ports just looks like a Helmholz resonator cavity. It's probably used to attenuate some booming bass frequency. I am not sure if that's something compelely new.

@ there is no DIY speaker nor a high end speaker that I know that does bass like these do, you have to hear them to understand.

You Should audition the Studio ll or the Grand Studio also by Gershman Acoustics.

Studio and high end audio ... ever heard about TAD ? Or ARC ? This is not unique to this company. You could even argue that B&W is a company that comes from studio equipment. There are so many more ...

Correct 👍🏾 my European amplifier I just recently bought from a little known under the radar company was designed by two brothers. That previously worked for years doing the instillation and implementation of audio equipment for various European radio stations. They saw that the speakers, equipment used by even big radio stations wasn't as good as it could be so they founded their own HiFi company. Focusing on accurate sound quality for their speakers and now their amplifiers.

I think PS Audio has a similar set up. I've seen in some videos where Paul talks about the studio they have in the same building and where they design and build there speakers.

oh I am sure that there are companies out there that I missed that do have the ability to do the studio thingy but that's why I said "to this extent. to my knowledge." It is just cool and reassuring to know that they have a real instrument in the same space as the "reference" point... it doesn't tell you much about how they would sound at the end of the day.

@@Jayiyagi definitely gives a person confidence when purchasing an item from them knowing that they have the ability to compare there speakers to the live instrument it's supposed to be reproducing.

the grill is bad. it looks dated. go back 50 yrs & check the screen of the radio, it looks similar. so please consider changing the design of the grill or at least give options for another simple grill with cloth or silk.

Why do they use a sloped baffle instead of a stepped baffle with treatments? Sloped means you are slightly off axis from the drivers. Psychological things :)

4:37 Umm... It looks to me like you have the bridging plates in the wrong way. They look like the positive and negative sides are touching, surly they don't go on that way and should be switched around so the metal part goes on the outer edges so they are not touching. The way It's hooked up looks like it will short out the system straight away.
@richardcolinking4 жыл бұрын
That is the correct way. There is a nonconductive spacer between the two halves so they don't touch.

You should get Tekton Ulfberht & pure audio project quintet15 4x15in speakers to compare they are regarded as world's best for under 100k but costs 10k pair max. Also I'm no one to recommend you something ofc you kn better but i would recommend you to try those before buying these.. As too many people lose them.
