Todd, people always have an issue with people spending money and perceived value. The way I see it, we work, we work hard to support ourselves and families. I turned 50 years old last year and went out and purchased my first Leica camera. Yes, it cost a lot, yes I had some people mock me for spending the money ' on a camera ' I don't, care, I work and and I want to enjoy life. Since owning my Leica camera, I have enjoyed photography more. When people say new gear doesn't make your photography better, I 100% disagree, I have gone out more and appreciated photography more since starting with my new Leica, Cheers from Australia, love your work.

Very well said. I just purchased my first Leica M at 65 (an m11P) and I could have gotten one much earlier in life but the time just felt right, and I've wanted one since I was a very young man. My wife said pretty much what you said, 'you've worked hard all your life and have done right by family and friends, now it's your time so buy what you want'. I also have a Sony a7rv but the Leica receives more genuine love because it's such a joy to hold and shoot with, the Sony feels more like a tool (which is not a bad thing), but the Leica sparks a deeper creative side that my Sony never did. It also helps me slow down and live in the moment which is something I believe many naysayers just don't understand because they're so 'focused' on the fact that it doesn't have video, it's manual focus, it's too expensive ~ blah blah blah blah. I don't regret the purchase for one second and never felt the need to defend my purchase since it brings me so much joy every time I pick it up and go out shooting (one camera with one or two lenses), and isn't that what photography is all about, being inspired.

Bags are very individual taste! My most used is backpack! I do errands on my walks! I remember a time, a guy really distressed, came to me! Your Leica is with your veggies! Nope said I, It's on top! I place towels, in bottom and on top. Use old t-shirts, to place lenses in.. Leica of course, with Collapsible Summicron 50mm, easily under a jacket, coat or Parka. Happy New Year! Stay warm. Thanks for this great review. Nonslip shoulder strap and soft/flexible dividers are special and not always found on other bags. That it is also a beautiful work of art in and of itself helps, too! Is it tall enough to hold a Hassy 500CM? I am planning a trip to Japan for later this year and I need to figure out what gear to take. I have an M3, and MP, a 907x/CFV100, and of course the 500CM. Do I take it all and make my wife carry some of it, or pair it down? I think she would be okay hauling the LF gear as well!!

I've got an M3 I found at an estate sale a couple years ago. It was in terrible condition, no vulcanite, very brown like it was next to a smoker for 50 years. But it WORKED and I scrapped off the layers of dirt and grime and used it for 1.5 years like that. Early in 2023 I sent it off to YYE Camera to completely repair and fix up, and I couldn't believe the difference in feel and sound, the brightness of the viewfinder, everything. It's become my favorite camera to use. I don't baby it an all, because I know where it came from and what it is capable of. It's got a Voigtlander 50 APO lens and an old Leica 35mm Summaron with goggles. The photos I get with it are my favorite of all of my many film cameras (though I do use it in conjunction with my Nikon FM2 or Nikon Z9 a lot). I don't think I am interested in any digital Leica to be honest, the value proposition just doesn't appeal to me. Not to mention I really don't think they've made a camera better than the M3 (the viewfinder is still the best in my opinion!). All of this to say I have the Artisan & Artist strap and I use it with my M3 every day and like it a lot!
@toddkorolphoto Жыл бұрын
Well, it's almost impossible to beat an M3! Lucky you, those are fabulous cameras. And the more you use those mechanical cameras, the better they work. I bought the digital Leicas for assignments, but if I didn't do this for a living I would only use film Leicas. I almost bought an M3 in Bangkok, I love those.

I have M2, M3 and M6 and an M240, like yourself for longer than I care to mention. I also have Hasselblads, Pentax 67, a few 4X5s and a 5X7 which I 3D printed at home. I also have Nikon and Canon Film and Digital cameras for when the Leica or the MF and LF cameras are not suitable. I really can't understand why so many people all of a sudden own Leicas. They are not for everyone, nor do they suit a lot of photographic situations. So congratulations to Leica marketing. As far as bags go, for years I have stuck to Billingham, but recently I got a couple of ThinkTank canvas bags that are simply very very comfortable and quite indiscreete and don't shout out Leica.

Nice collection.Yes I have just used Leica forever because I take a different type of photo with it, and love being in a different situation with it. A lot of people who get one quickly fall out of love with them because they are a completely different beast to use.

Indeed. I have heard some say that it was a good investment. The others just use it as a badge of honour, a ring of acceptance in the company of some great photographers. Well, this is the world we live in and the dire state of photography of today. Take care.@@toddkorolphoto
