great video Tod, but wait a minute, the asa ISNT the whole dial, just the silver scalloped knob!, the thing you turned, from what I've seen elsewhere on videos is a "filter wheel", a compensation dial with filter factors on it. [obviously not just filters, but maybe also for the closeup lenses, to account for that light loss to]; as the meter isn't TTL, its over the top, freestanding, so can't see through the filters and other accessories, so needs mechanical compensation for them.

Apologies to bang on about your video but @ 7.19mins your information around capturing a reflective incident meter reading off a Gray Card is frankly - misleading. Incident readings are of the received light. Reflected readings are of the reflected light. They may not be the same. Period.

I just came back from Portugal and although I took a few different lenses 95% of the time I use my 28 mm, which I loved exploring that. It’s a Voigtlander f2.0 on my M6 I could even hand hold at night. It was refreshing not to think, do I have the right lens for this situation? I focussed on getting the right composition I wanted.

Oh, how I love and miss shooting with my Rolleiflex. I still have it, but after we lost our processor here in town, I now have to send out all of my film to be developed. Developing myself is possible, but not the cost. Due to this I can't afford to shoot medium AND large format as much as I wish I could.
@toddkorolphoto14 күн бұрын
Actually developing your film should be a lot cheaper than sending it out, and you only need a few things to do that. Hmmm, maybe I should make a KZbin film about that. ;-)
@wolfganggerlach186814 күн бұрын
I like these kind of images very much which show the tranquility in black and white. I like the Rolleiflex too. I myself have one. You did you not use your spotmeter which is interesting. Please tell me the reason why not using it. Kind regards from Sweden
@toddkorolphoto14 күн бұрын
Thank you. Although I did have a spot meter with me, when I was in Japan is was mostly overcast, so one meter reading and I knew the exposure. If I had greys in the frame I knew at that exposure they would be grey. I also have so much experience and know how I develop film, that in certain scenes if I underexposed by a stop I knew I could darken parts of the photo up. I also gave the film a bit more development to try and bump the contrast on this grey day. So I just didn't have a huge variety in light, pretty much one exposure reading and I was set for the day.

What is the point of shooting film these days ?. I shot film on a Hasselblad and Leica m6, did all my own processing. Even had a densitometer, film base plus fog !. It’s far better to use digital.
@toddkorolphoto14 күн бұрын
Then use digital. But I still love the look of film, I can still make silver prints using film, I think more about the photo when I am using film. The point is use what makes you happy making photos, and if that's digital for you, great. I shoot a lot of digital myself. There are no absolutes one way is better than the other, they are just different.

Thanks Todd! Do you have any tips for traveling internationally with film? In my most recent trip to Europe I concluded it just wasn’t feasible any longer. Security at Heathrow absolutely refused to hand check my 10 rolls of T-Max and that was the end of my film for the entire trip.
@toddkorolphoto14 күн бұрын
From everything I've heard, and I have been there as well, Heathrow is terrible for any kind of film. I had no issues in Japan and in Asia, except one x-ray check in Vietnam. I just have all of my film out of their containers or packages and in a clear plastic bag ready for them, right now here in North America and in Asia they are still good about it. They have to swab the film though.
