Whether it is human nature or infatuation, we are usually curious about big things. It doesn't come as a surprise that the biggest animals make headlines whenever they are captured on camera. Scientists have sighted some gigantic shark species among the over 500 species in existence. Please sit back and relax as I take you through ten of the world's biggest sharks.
10. Great White Shark
The legendary Great white shark is one of the fiercest predators in the ocean. They know what they want and go after it without looking back. As a member of the Chondrichthyes class, it has earned the reputation as a man-eater. Their fusiform and robust bodies measure about 7 meters, and they weigh as much as 3,500 kg in adulthood. Their most noticeable feature is a pointed, narrow snout, crescent-shaped caudal fin, two pectoral fins, and a triangular dorsal fin. This shark's mouth can open up to 1.2 meters wide and reveals several rows of sharp serrated teeth.
Their habitat area is extended from latitudes 60 degrees north to 60 degrees south. You'll find them in temperate and tropical coastal waters on the coast of North America and southern Mexico. They've also been sighted in parts of South Africa. The great white shark is carnivorous and feeds on smaller marine animals like squids, rays, smaller fish, dolphins, sea lions, and other sharks. Females become sexually active after 15 years, while their male counterparts become mature after nine years.

9. Pacific sleeper shark
The sleeper shark is a member of the Somniosidae shark family. At maturity, they measure about 3.6 meters and weigh almost 350 kg. This ocean monster is greyish-black and has bristle skin. It also boasts a short round snout and cylindrical body. As expected, they are carnivorous and feed on soles, pollocks, teleost fish, flounders, and octopuses; they also feed on smaller creatures like pacific salmon, shrimps, rockfishes, and hermit crabs. Since they are primarily scavengers, you'll likely see most of them in small groups.
Pacific sleeper sharks are found in temperate waters in the North Pacific from Japan along the Siberian coast to the Bering Sea. There are also reported sightings in the Australasian waters. They migrate close to the shore at higher altitudes, and at lower times, they move to depths of at least 2,000 meters. Their common prey are octopuses, bottom fishes, squids, crabs, carrion, sea lions, etc. This monster is relatively harmless to humans, but their flesh releases a toxin that can cause symptoms of intoxication.

8. Greenland shark
The Greenland shark is one of the largest sea creatures in the world. They measure up to 6.5 meters long and weigh almost 900 kg. They exhibit unique characteristics like dissimilar teeth, exciting fins, and varying skin coloration. Of all the shark species globally, the Greenland sharks are the only ones that consistently inhabit arctic and sub-arctic freezing water. They move closer to the water surface during winter and can be spotted near the edge of ice flows.
This species is found in the North Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of St. Lawrence off Baffin Island. Sometimes, they hang around the south of the Gulf of Maine. Some fishers have also found them near the mouth of the Saguenay River in Quebec. Although some people claim that Greenland sharks attacked them, the reality is that there is not one documented case of that encounter. Studies show that they are not confrontational but would react if they feel threatened. It is almost impossible to catch a glimpse of these animals as they remain unnoticed in the waters. They were not filmed until 1995, after which it took another 18 years before they were captured on camera.
7. Tiger shark
The Tiger shark is the only surviving species of the Galeocerdo genius. They cut this list owing to their enormous body size. An adult measures up to 7.5 meters long and weighs 600 kg. They are called tiger sharks because of the band of dark stripes on their skin, similar to what we see in tigers. As they age, the bands start fading until they become invisible. Their fusiform body has a blunt nose at the tip of the narrow snout. The tail's upper lobe is larger than the lower ones, while their serrated teeth are used to crack hard shells.

Tiger sharks aren’t aggressive to humans in clear water where they can see what they are doing. If your splashing on the surface of the water they might bite mistake u as a fish. When you get down in the water these animals see u as another being apart of the water. They’re not mindless man eating monsters and have been seen to befriend divers and enjoy head rubs
