It's commendable that Ron and other car collectors take the time to share their cars with the general public. I had never heard about a Stout Scarab, fun and strange little car.

It's basically an airplane that died and was reincarnated as a car. You can see it in the ribbed split window, the long body, the way the doors work, the tubular frame steel frame with the panels wrapped around it, and the airtight sealing. Did I mention that the aerodynamic styling is also a dead giveaway?

I remember them; nice cars until they started rusting. The hidden headlights were added for 1970, I believe. Those early-1970s Fords always looked as if they fell asleep, even back then. I wonder what kind of reaction a car like that would get on the road today.

I noticed it has a South Wind gasoline heater hanging under the dash. That thing burned gasoline by tapping into the intake manifold below the carb. It was on or off. 'On' soon made the rubber floor mat get hot and start smoking. Turning it off was the answer! It severely reduced MPG! but was instant on and really poured out the heat which was great in frigid central PA!

The Stout Scarab is a neat looking car. I would say that it definitely would be considered futuristic looking for that time. Also I was tripping on fact that the V12 engine in the Lincoln produced only 110 hp, when today most V12's produce well over 500 hp plus. I'm sure back then they thought that was state of the art. Even though, they are all awsome looking cars.
