Central Birmingham is becoming a very nice place to visit. Brindley Place and the canals are great.

Love your videos, you always look for the positive things going on in the UK, unlike others that just want to show the negative side of things,keep up the good work.

First regular octagonal building as opposed to the irregular octagonal building in Australia. Thanks for a birds eye view of Brum central

I made the brackets for those panels and brackets for many other buildings up and down the country, The building on Lionel street behind the uni another one I’ve done with the paneled brickwork staggering outwards

To the right of where the now demolished multi storey car park is, on Cambridge Street, there is an old City of Birmingham Uni (or UCE as it was) halls of residence building. It was named Cambrian Halls and I lived there for 3 years from 1993-1996 (plus had a girlfriend who lived there 1999-2000). I believe it’s also about to be demolished for a new development on the canal area. Unfortunately there are no plans to demolish the 4x council tower blocks which are nearby. Nice vid 👍

Under the influence of modernism, domestic houses of the 1960s were large, modern and often had flat roofs. They had wide windows and were flooded with light. Houses often came with garages, a large driveway and both rear and front gardens.

Does Bham need a new coach/bus station? The New St Train Station looks amazing, however I don't recall seeing a modern bus station near the city centre. Unless I missed it last I visited.

Definitely!

The coach station is in Digbeth, it was rebuilt about 15 years ago, its about 400 yards from the Bull Ring.

Great video... good to capture the cityscape in a moment in time... the black framed building you worked on is now occupied by Arup... I visited it recently and they claim it's entirely carbon neutral... the octagon is interesting but I despair that new apartments are once again being built straight to rent... this means there are hardly any properties you can buy in the city centre... no balconies either. Regarding the brutal 60s buildings, you must be happy that the campaigners failed to save Smallbrook Queensway!

I love yhis octagon tower, I really like the skylines of city centre & dont mind at all our cities resembling Manhaton or Chicago as long as the people are nice & decent & not vagrants & liars, then cities are beautiful

Tall buildings are impressive, but I do find them utterly bizarre. Do they ever get filled? I mean we live in a country with a housing crisis and skyrocketing rents and utility bills. We can't look after our sick or the old, but these buildings pop up that are apparently 'residential'. Who resides in such towers?

build to rent is getting ridiculous in Birmingham

You think the classic Madin library is inferior to these boring lego block buildings that replace it? . I despair. Really losing that building was an act of cultural vandaliam
@mrglide707812 күн бұрын
The Madin library was unfinished and poorly maintained. An eyesore to behold. it's only saving grace, sad to say, was Paradise Forum. The Macanoo designed new library is much better, although I fear issues with upkeep and maintenance could be heading in the same downward direction due to cuts
