There's 3 main possibilities for why Baba Sen did this and only Baba Sen knew for sure: 1. It's Cosmic Baba Sen: he works with energy streams a person gives off and has around them for the Reiki aspect of the massages. This is good enough if woo-woo stuff is good with you. 2. This could impact an individual like hypnosis does; suggestion leading them to relax more or be less reluctant to tense up no matter how hard Baba goes. For those that can't or don't get hypnotized it's a way to bring someone's attention to the massage itself and away from distractions like the noise or their thoughts; kinda tough to think to yourself, "what am I doing after this?" when your thinking about, "Okay now he's breathing quicker and his left arm's moving around so much it's creating a light breeze." which could lead to thinking about nothing; you're getting a relaxing massage, why focus on what Baba Sen's up to when you can just zone out and enjoy?

I had a weirdly accurate dream once that I met Baba Sen in person, and he was in some sorta rural Indian community as a spiritual leader as well as their primary barber/masseuse. It was an interesting, oddly vivid, and rather relaxing dream! If only that dream were real, though.
