Wow, this is a great channel. It’s rare to come across a KZbin channel thats shared information driven and not all about self promotion. I really appreciate your shared insight, stay safe and enjoy the adventures.

Hey Andrew, you were on a show mainly for German / European overlanders. So when discussing the high Land Cruiser camper version, you should bear in mind the weather conditions overlanders may face when travelling Scandinavia, Russia or even high mountains in southern countries. We always enjoy our warm rolling home on our pick-up. But that's not the only reason we choose such a version: Extra room and height when moving around, space for a "bathroom", a real kitchen, a big bed, a table and bench for eating a 3 course meal etc. Another big issue is, that we often don't want to get out of the camper and set up the camping stuff because it is inappropriate at that spot or it feels a little unsafe. It is just the question of how much comfort you want to have, We don't need a big truck, but we also don't want the tent feeling of a pop-up roof camper. So for us, the best compromise is a hard shell camper box on a pick-up. Happy rolling, Florian

I love how honest Andrew is with his opinions about the products and hardware he is looking at and is always constructive with his discussion. So many people who make these types of films are so reticent with their thoughts and overly ingraciating towards vendors, that those of us with less experience are mistakenly led to believe that concept X, Y, and Z are the best ideas out there, without being given counter points to consider. With Andrew, he shares his thoughts, provides examples from his experience that helped form his opinions, and all of us are the richer for it. A great video as always! Thank you!

While I don't disagree with what Andrew said about the hardtop LCs, I can easily see an advantage. I suspect it's because I'm used to northern European weather and he isn't, so maybe it's a bit more obvious to me or something. If you travel around Europe (Especially the northern parts) you're going to get shitty weather sooner or later. Having a hard top means it can actually be insulated and you don't have to worry about having to air out the tent so it can dry etc. I'm not sure if that's enough of an advantage for me to prefer it, but it still is an advantage. :)

[13:24] Few comes to mind, roof top tents are susceptible to mold development, especially in humid environments. They also give the indication that someone is sleeping which might affect safety. The high top can be used if it is windy and rainy. Also someone (although not advisable) can sleep in the high top while the other is driving. It is always there, like a house, open the door and enter, no need to setup anything. I am sure there are more. Hope you experiment with one soon!

The added roof hight of the Landcruisers keeps the vehicle inside warmer than a fabric pop up roof, and thus more for colder climates.

Good video. I grew up loving Landrover. My cousin grew up on Landcruisers. Last week they built the last Defender Landrover. There is all this talk for years and years of a replacement but still nothing. The 70 series Landcruiser has been with us since the late 80s, regardless of what camp your in, you have to agree it has been an unbelievable success. Shame on the Landrover managers, you have had decades to sort things out. If Toyota bring the 70 series to the UK to fill the vacuum I fear many Landy lovers will convert. Me, after spending time in Africa with my cousin and his Landcruisers, I bought a Japenese import 76. It is so far in advance of even a brand new Defender, if such thing still existed.

Are you happy with the new one?
@harveysmith1004 жыл бұрын
@@deifor To be honest, I hate what I have seen. It is just another poser 4x4. If it doesn't have solid axles it is at a disadvantage. It has over 50 ECU's. Ten years in Africa and that vehicle will be toast. It's rival is the the LandCruiser 70 or the Gwagen Commercial. It doesn't come close to either. The new Grenadier sounds more like what the Defender should have been. Land Rover have lost the plot. All they needed to do was strip down a 70 series, work out why it is so good and improve on it. I have worked on my own vehicles for nearly 40 years, the LandCruiser is so simple, so well built and so easy to fix. That is what the new Defender should have been.

How did Andrew take his land cruiser from Australia to Germany??
@4xoverland5 жыл бұрын
I didn't. This is my first Troopy, built in South Africa, that I brought to the UK when I lived there. It remained in the UK when I moved to Aus. This is the full story of that vehicle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6jJiYGofZiLhs0

Thanks for sharing another great video Andrew. Looked like you really enjoyed the diversity of hardware on display at the Expo. Also pleased to see that you met up with Jon at the show - as he is the only other UK owner of a 78 Series modified Landcruiser that I have seen in the UK. ( See kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKC6p6h7Z7lpqsU ) Therefore great to hear your honest opinions and comparisons on the contrasting designs. . Finally are you definitely still leaving for Australia? And if so how much longer are you going to be staying in the UK ? Cheers, Andy

I wish you would show things that you LIKE instead of things you DIDN'T LIKE. Not one interesting accessory (a cool new LED light system?), just anything, too much time wasted on the electric motor Toyota, this isn't interesting to most people. Please be more specific when you record these shows, try to think what a broader audience might be interested in. I feel that in 18 minutes you showed a bunch of Toyota 78 that you didn't find so great, and not much else. And why waste time on people that didn't let you interview them? Maybe if you had put a bit more time into showing us whatever interesting new gadget for overland camping (I am sure there were many) was being shown, and less time on your 'competitors' we'd get more from this film. Not everyone is a Troopy person.

Next time or when you get the opportunity , try a nissan patrol td42 especially on an off-road circuit and i guarantee you will love it. It is the best all round unmodified off road vehicle i have used especially in Africa, where roads are not good and reliability is paramount. I have used landrover defender county, landrover discovery, rangerover, toyota landcruiser 100, toyota landcruiser prado and the toyota hilux. Must say the toyotas are equally good in terms of reliability but find them very unstable in curves. As for landrover vehicles they are the worst vehicles in terms of reliability and very expensive to maintain. Best avoided in Africa where reliability is probably the most reason for running the vehicles especially to remote areas. Somehow i see you are a toyota person.

''As for landrover vehicles they are the worst vehicles in terms of reliability and very expensive to maintain. Best avoided in Africa where reliability is probably the most reason for running the vehicles especially to remote areas''...this is something people should pay attention very closely. Perhaps the only place to perform a safe overlanding in a land rover is in England. Toyota Land Cruiser has a great reputation on reliability that LR has not be able ,so far, to equal.
