i Was fortunate enough to visit the Pima Air & Space Museum in 2019. What a wonderful collection and a great walk amongst legends. This is definately a bucketlist item. Loved it and if i ever get the chance, i'll be back. Greetings from the Netherlands!

I went there in 2017. My wife almost left me because. I wouldn’t leave. I was there when it opened and tried to see and touch every plane I grew up loving. (Which was everything there ) then they had to kick me out. Absolutely love this place. I am going again as soon as possible. Arizona is my favourite state. My fav is the SR71.

I was surprised he didn't name that the most significant plane in the collection, until he filled us in on the back story of their Buff.

Today is the first time I have heard of this museum. I only live a bit over 1400 miles from Tucson so this would make for a nice road trip! My favorite is the SR-71 and the B-52 but I really like all of them.

Ticked one off my bucket list when I traveled from England to visit PIMA a few years ago. A great collection, and such a friendly bunch of volunteers who work there too, well worth the trip 👍🏻

I took the opportunity to visit a number of museums during a period of "pre-tirement" several years ago and THIS was probably my favorite! I visited twice. I took three days on my second visit. Also visited the associated missile site. The museum also features some aircraft from other nations. Worth supporting!

I have been to over 25 aviation museums in the USA and Canada and this one is THE BEST I've ever been to. I was driving from FL to CA and wanted a break for a couple hours and saw the highway billboards and stopped. Unfortunately I only had 2 1/2 hours before closing time and they had to throw me out! The next time I drive I-10 thru southern Arizona I will be stopping for a longer time.

I was once associated with an outfit that operated only eight airplanes, though they were all tactical jets. I thought that was plenty. I'll always treasure my three flights in their F-104D. I've worked for several aviation museums, and I know that even static collections like this require a huge amount of maintenance.

Around 2:15 you state that most of the famous astronauts in the 60s from Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo were part of the X-15 program? What exactly did you mean by this as the vast majority were definitely NOT X-15 pilots, chase pilots, mothership pilots, or otherwise involved at all in the program.

Sometimes they get high winds in the desert - a few years ago the B-36 was lifted up and its tie-downs pulled out of the ground. I hope PIMA can someday get money for the proposed SAC Cold War building to house the B-36, B-47, B-58, B-52.

They are not maintained in flying condition, but many "could" fly again if given LOTs of flight level TLC. Some however have been fully decommissioned to prevent future use.

Always visit when in the area. Is a definite for aircraft aficionados but some of the docents are somewhat shaky in knowledge..especially about non-US air-frames. . However, I am also a fan of the Erickson Aircraft Collection OR and the War Eagles Air Museum NM. Frankly I find the NASM Udvar-Hazy facility VA to be too "crowded". And of course the National Naval Aviation Museum FL and the National Museum of the United States Air Force OH are also musts.

it amazes me that they don't build a roof over the top of the whole property and put solar panels on it to pay for the roof. Add walls, and then the dust would go way down too. Maybe get the Gove to kick off the solar roof? A4, my favorite!

I just visited this winter. It was nice but a bit of a let down when the tram driver didn’t show up that day and they’ve discontinued the “bone yard tour” at the base next door. Worth a visit but I appreciated the US Museum of the Air Force in Dayton Ohio as their info presented much better. Please fix the QR codes at the outside aircraft.

YES - PIMA has more than 300+ airplanes... last count I can remember its over 400 plus aircraft. And be careful guys (you at Pima), you claim 300+ in your video title, but then state "nearly" 300 in your video description.

I've been twice, it's a great museum. I met Bob Hansen back in 2001. I think your policy of painting the cockpit windows is a mistake- you should correct it. It's like painting a beautiful girl, then scrubbing her eyes out. Honestly, please think about this. Hope to visit again soon.
@markthibault85792 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about this practice myself. There must be a good reason for doing it and I suspect it has to do with keeping the heat at bay inside the aircraft to prevent cooking the internals in the hot months down there.

From what I've seen the windows turn yellow and crack or shatter. It may be low humidity but its sky high UV and heat. Not the best place.
