I love watching Paul Shaffer have so much fun, playing his favorite style music, and dance around. The band is so talented at every style.

They played SummerFest in Milwaukee Wisconsin around that same time. One of the best shows I have seen.

Thanks for posting. This is vintage Paul Shaffer and "World's Most Dangerous Band." Somehow I'm not surprised by their virtuosity. I was fortunate enough to catch them with David Letterman twice at the NBC studios and thrice more at CBS Ed Sullivan theater.

I have been listening to Paul and all his buddies play for 40 years---he is awesome but as usual folks always stuffed him in a corner. This is in his heyday. He played with the pioneers of jazz and rock and the newbies. These guys played and appeared everywhere and in concerts they would funk you to death, drown you in tears of a ballad, or make you blues crazy. People still flock to hear alll of the old greats because when they were young they paid homage constantly to the pioneers in their performances. AND They PLAY MUSIC! THEY ARE TALENTS that most artists today dream about having without a computer to assist them! This concert featured also, Spyro Gyra and Dianne Reeves --AWESOME CONCERT!!!

I think Michael Brecker should have given some kind of heads up about the face melting solo he was gonna play because those people just werent ready 😂

And Bob James, Louie Bellson and Paul's fellow Canadian. Maynard Ferguson! I've been searching for tracks by the WMDB for years. I wish they had recorded and released the covers they played during the show. The small bits you'd hear in and out of commercial breaks were terrific. Being able to hear them play entire songs was a highlight of the two times I attended the show

I actually really like this. I think I and many others have under valued Paul's talents probably because they cut out most of what he plays from the broadcast because its during the commercial slots.

Someday, when it's ok, I'll put up some of the break music. There are some spectacular performances that no one beyond the studio audience has ever heard.

Paul and the band did a rendition of "Louie Louie" in the 80s that I'd really like to see. Haven't been able to find it anywhere. Paul's solo version is easy to find and it's good.

Bruce Strickland I’ve so far documented 21 performances of “Louie Louie” on LN. All instrumentals, no vocals.

The song at the beginning sounds like Garth Brooks' Ain't Going Down Until Sun Comes Up, which was released in July 1993, it hit on the Country Billboard in September 1993, it returned on October 2, 1993 on the Billboard chart.

As identified in the video description, it's a cover of Roy Head's "Treat Her Right" from 1965. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpeQqIyIoM6UbLs&spfreload=10

Great stuff. Paul doesn't get his due. MF and Bellson wow. Didn't know Will could sing lead vocals. Not sure what Martin Marietta has to do with jazz but oh well.

Hi Don, Any chance you can get and post a better quality version of Paul on the Tonight Show when Billy Crystal hosted? Paul did Taste of Honey with Doc and the band and it was amazing.

@@dongiller thanks for checking. I have it somewhere too on VHS, but I remember my good Mitsubishi stereo deck broke-down and I had to use some crappy mono deck and yeah...my sounds and picture is about the same. It's actually my favorite Paul Schaefer moment ever.

Does anyone know what guitar will Leeds playing? He played that yellow guitar all the time back in the day.
@dongiller6 жыл бұрын
You mean Sid McGinnis; Will Lee (not Leeds) was the band's bass player. Sid is playing a Strat. Here's his later Late Show gear: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opqxaJdohamBaZI

That's Sid McGinnis on the yellow guitar. I think it's an ESP Strat-style guitar, but I may be wrong.
@jackchessa81934 жыл бұрын
It is an ESP strat. Probably custom built at 48st music.
