In Summary, Pamban Bridge connects Mandapam, Mainland India to Rameswaram Island built by Britishers in 1914. It was a Metre gauge train double leaf bascule sea bridge until 2007, which was converted to Broad guage rail bridge. A new Vertical Lift Sea Rail Bridge is being constructed as seen in the video with a provision of double rail line architecture. Correction: The Railway line extended furthermore upto another island Dhanuskodi. In 1964, The Dhanukodi Cyclone devastated Dhanuskodi & Rameswaram Islands. A metre gauge train got derailed by cyclonic winds & tides into the sea was carrying 200 passengers. This incident took place on Rameswaram-Dhanuskodi Sea Rail bridge & not on Pamban Bridge. The Remains of Dhanuskodi Railway Station can be seen on the Dhanuskodi Island.
