@Nolan Sykes About the Scout's live rear axle situation, my guess is that it may be an "E-axle" ; a live axle with integrated electric motor. Some companies were working on these a couple of years ago primarily for use in EV pick-ups, and lately being considered by some of them to offer EV conversion kits for gas trucks and SUVs.

In the EU, in 2023, automatic transmissions accounted for about 62.4% of new car sales in the EU, up from 24% in 2011. I would imagine that's mostly cause of EVs and hybrids though. 67.11% of new cars available in the UK, are only available with automatic transmissions. In 2010/11, only 5.2% of people in the UK took their driving test with an automatic, as in can _only_ drive an automatic with their license. Bit under 16% did so in 2021/22.

That particular insurance scam only really works in NY because of the way Police do not respond to minor accidents. If this happens to you without a dash cam, get the police involved, they will easily sus out the scam and write you a police report for insurance.
@oofbigtime417523 күн бұрын
Plenty of areas have police that no longer show up to non-injury car accidents. Colorado for one.

On the topic of implicating yourself with a dash cam, you are actually allowed to send them a small clip of what happened, as long as whatever you cut out didn’t contribute to the crash. There was a pretty famousish case where a biker crossed the mustard and was lane splitting (or filtering? Whichever the illegal one is) How ever, when he was hit, he wasn’t doing anything wrong. He got off.

I’ve been driving with a dashcam for years. I don’t understand going as cheap as possible with a crappy picture, low framerate, etc. Go with a name brand that has a history of providing support, like Blackvue or Thinkware. Spending only $30 on a dash cam and hoping it doesn’t fail when you need it most could cost you whatever happened, and you’re out $30. While a $200 dashcam could save you thousands of dollars. I’ve moved my Blackvue from car to car over the past decade and it hasn’t failed me yet. I’m only thinking of upgrading because I’d like higher resolution and framerate for clearer picture. But it still works so well that I’m not in a hurry to upgrade.

Linus Tech Tips did a video on dashcams, above a certain price they're all seemingly the same inside. Definitely not something to cheap out on, though. I've also seen an app to convert old, unused smartphones into dashcams, I'm curious how that would compare. I'm currently using old phones as security cameras and they're doing pretty great.
@bedast22 күн бұрын
@@speedracer2please Part of what you get with the higher cost is better support and longer time of software updates. Super cheap devices tend to be a sell it and forget it. They’re intended to be disposable. Which I guess some people like because if it fails, just replace it and you still come out cheaper than the expensive cams. But also…more ewaste. But mine has t failed and I’m not sure if it’s still getting firmware updates as something as old as it is, but it got firmware updates fixing problems for many years. Is there better cameras for cheaper today? Of course. Technology keeps marching on. But it still performs well. I even pulled video off of it a few days ago to save from a near incident. I do use a high endurance card in it as well.

Technically everyone's got a dash cam in their car whenever they drive it. It's called your phone. Put it on a phone holder and hit record. Save yourselves some money.

Stellantis really IS trying to kill the Jeep brand. Making their bread and butter mommy mobile manual only is a very bad decision, especially when all the other Jeeps are even more overpriced than the Wrangler.
