I met this owner at a pub nearby. We exchanged pleasantries and I purchased him a round or two. He then said he had a cigar store nearby and offered to show us it. We walked over and he showed us around and during the visit gave me several Cubans which were fantastic. A real gentleman and most generous.

IC BM what do you mean you can't take tobacco to your lungs? That's how you smoke cigarettes, all the tar you pull into your lungs is what's so terribly bad for you. I love this comment. I know the exact feeling and I feel it less and less these days, to the point where it will be a totally unable to generate feeling because bricks'n'mortar stores are dying out and what's left will be crap and corporate ugliness with no heart, no soul. I don't think what you wrote about is spoken about and eulogised, explored and celebrated often enough: for a SHOP to inspire us not just to be happy about a specially planned pilgrimage, but to shine our shoes, shave well, do our hair and make sure we look 'worthy' and join in with the high standards we are presented with and respond to so enthuisastically. It's so wonderful to uplift people to be their best when dipping their toes into what they're grateful for and clearly NEED: a sophisticated 'world' with standards and expectations that pulls them out of an ugly, broken society and encourages them to smarten up and be their best behaviour and appearance. I love this. What an incredibly rare phenomenon. This tends to happen to me when I'm in Japan a great deal. Elegant cigar bars and high end teahouses; I show my deep reverence and appreciation by making a day of it and grooming myself to within an inch of my life. It's wonderful. I sleep well at night.

Wow! Really? Did your family make cigars back then?
@rjp71643 жыл бұрын
At 0:49 it says it first opened its doors in 1947 and then the old bloke says Churchill was a customer for 64 years. Churchill died in 1965. Does not compute.

I heard UK has high cigar prices but those are like double to Germany
@ministryofcigars82225 жыл бұрын
That's true. It;s because of the tobacco tax. In the UK, there's a tax per weight and then VAT. In Germany it's a small percentage of the value.

Mr. Churchill is one of my all time favorite people in history. Great leader and the man enjoyed a good cigar with adult drink to go with it. How could anyone not like the man? I would love to go to this cigar store just to see the history & have a cigar or two. Shalom

Tobacco shops like this used to be a common sight, they're gone now. I can remember the spiced tobacco smell as soon as you walked in the door. You could spend a day just smelling the air in these shops, it was wonderful. Younger generation is too sensitive to handle a cigar.
