The part about you not liking the woman you were with is great. I believe there's a country song that says, 'you're not as much fun since I quit drinking'. I'm 70 Y.O. and drink daily. Hangovers depend on if I drink enough water before going nighty night. My father said 'drinking is an old mans comfort' and 'it's the manna of the gods'. He always brought me a bottle of JD when visiting me in collage. He was a damn good dentist, and booze never interfered.

I am 27 year old female whom was abusing alcohol since I was 15. It came to a point recently that I started having a bottle a wine a night and craved it. I needed a drink every night and everytime I went out with friends we'd get so drunk the next two days I was wasting nursing my hangover only to do it again. I have wasted so much time and ignored my problems. I am now 1 month and 17 days sober(the longest I've been sober consecutively since i was 15), never looking back. I am grateful I caught myself before it was too late. I plan to help others lead a sober life once I'm strong enough. Appreciated this content! 🙏😊

18 months since my last drink. I’ve drank beer pretty much every single day since I started drinking in high school. I have a wife and 5 kids. I’ve had only 1 DUI. I crashed 3 different vehicles while drunk. Ive never been fired or asked to quit a job, however every dumb decision I made in life I can honestly say I was drinking. I mean I jumped over a fence while working on my 3rd 40 and received 3 metal plates and 18 screws to fix my ankle. I took pride in calling myself a functioning alcoholic. One day I didnt feel like drinking anymore, my wife noticed it or at least mentioned it after a month and half. I was pissed she didnt say something earlier. We had our first legit heart to heart in 11 years. I was surprised to hear her. The hardest part of being sober and the biggest regret i have is the feeling I get when looking at pictures of my family, Im in them but I can’t remember anything and in every picture im either drunk with a beer in my hand or passed out drunk. I only wish my kids never drink because they saw first hand what alcohol does. The two biggest things I noticed since quitting drinking was 1 I lost 80 pound, everyone i know thinks im sick or on drugs because I lost so much weight so fast. And the other thing is I sitll have my wife and kids. Im only 34 years old.

I've been sober for 4 years now. It was tuff in the beginning but as the days and months went by it became easier and easier. Instead of drinking I began reading about Buddhism. I read pretty much every book Thich Nhat Hanh has written. I started meditating and being mindful. Now 4 years later I am happier than I have ever been. I'm 56 years old now and I so wish that I would of known about buddhism when I was 16 and started drinking. Life is a beautiful thing when you are sober. I don't have anxiety anymore, I've lost 70 lbs. I walk out in nature for an hour every morning and just observe the beauty around me. Alcohol never made me happy thinking back...I thought it did but I was just feeding my disease. I can be around alcohol and people that drink and I can enjoy myself sober because my desire for a drink is gone. It's an amazing feeling! Thanks for sharing your experience. Today is my 35th day without alcohol,...... it's a little easier now, but the first two weeks were crave filled and difficult. Unfortunately for me, I live in a tourism driven city, and there are at least a thousand bars here,....they even sell beer in the laundromats here,.....so I've spent a lot of time hanging out in my condo so as not to be overly tempted to imbibe when I'm out and about. In addition, I've cut chips, sweets and I've been watching my carb intake. So,...here is what I've noticed. My beer gut is slowly disappearing,.....I'm down one pant size. I'm sleeping better as well, which is a big plus. Also,....with no hangovers I hit the gym like I always promised myself but never carried thru on . My ace in the hole is a good friend who works out with me and whose support is a godsend,...I think of him as a sponsor like those in AA . I now realize that alcohol was a bigger part of my life than I could ever before admit. I hope I can stay sober, and after lots of thinking about my friends who still drink to excess,.... I've made a decision that I may need some new friends, because I like being sober, and if I have to move on,.... I'm prepared to let them go because I don't want to be tempted to imbibe. Anyway,.....I do believe there can be a life without alcohol, and I do want that.
@destroygaryfunky7053 Жыл бұрын
Update: It's been over 200 days since my last drink,......I'm feeling very good physically,...I'm thinking clearly,.....and I've lost 50 pounds. I'm lifting weights every other day, and getting cardio every day, and whilst there are still times when I crave drinking beer,....I am able to dismiss those feelings and understand that I've come a long way,....and am choosing to stay sober. I'd never say I'll never drink again,....but for now I can honestly say I like being sober, and I'm much more productive in getting things done. For those just getting sober,....hang in there,....perseverance pays big dividends. Wishing you all the very best.

I'm not gonna lie I stopped drinking for 10 weeks since last October. In that time I lost weight, ran 100km a month over last 2 months and partnered with a major corporate who just offered me a fully paid trip to silicon valley for a conference. My mindset changed dramatically. No more anxiety in the mornings and also there is significantly more money in my bank account due to reduced bad spending when drunk. My kids are even impressed with me. Yeah is it worth sacrificing the occasional social upsides? You bet your ass it is. I think no alcohol keeps you improving on a continuous basis rather than the get wasted and "hit rock bottom" start over cycle with alcohol. Also, it forces you to face what's really bothering you and face your fears. Yep, alcohol, like KZbin is just another distraction pulling you away from real accomplishment. My opinion

Forgive yourself and it may be easier to get back on track. The 3 months sober aren't down the drain. The length of uninterrupted abstinence is supposed to be a motivator -- not something that helps defeat you. You had 3 months of not poisoning yourself, wasting money, and ruining your liver. That's a win. If you start abstaining again, you could have a year with only a couple weeks of drinking days. Wouldn't that be a huge victory, even though you had a relapse in there somewhere? The relapse reminds you of how miserable drinking is, so use it as a tool to help you remember why you want to quit. I'm quitting too. Hang in there and keep trying.

Recently I began experiencing terrible anxiety symptoms and had no idea of the cause. It took a couple of days to connect the dots. Since the pandemic grounded me 14 months ago I’ve been using alcohol in ever-greater quantities to cope with the isolation and lack of everyday diversions. I was drinking far more than ever in my life, but everything else was so out of whack I didn’t realize the effect 10-14 oz. of vodka every night was having on my body and mind. That anxiety episode was a huge wake-up call. At first I thought I was having a nervous breakdown, but it turned out that only 24 hours of sobriety got rid of those panicky feelings. Now I’m resolved to get my life back but that brings on a kind of anxiety as well! I’ve dug myself in pretty deep and it’ll take a while to get back in balance. But thank goodness I discovered there is a way out of a sense of despair I would not wish on anyone.

Detox and all that stuff is nonsense. You liver is what detoxes your body and when it has to much toxins, it gets fatty. But after 3 months of no drinking and a keto diet, I bet your liver is almost fully healed by now. Luckily it's an organ that can repair itself very well. Given the right diet. Not dandelion tea and milk stuff though lol. Water and a high protein diet will give your liver and pancreas a massive break and let them heal.

I’m almost at the 3 week mark with zero alcohol. My Mother who is turning 80 this year is a chronic drinker and has developed ‘ascites’ - a very bloated stomach, skin issues, and liver problems. In addition to that she also has slow onset dementia. My reason of giving up alcohol is I do not want to go down the path my mother has chosen. I also don’t like who I am when I drink and I’ve gained a lot of weight from alcohol. Also, going through perimenopause, alcohol has NOT helped me with my symptoms in fact, I think it’s making them worse. I’m also a Nurse and feel ashamed that I can take such amazing care of my patients but not of myself. That causes me a LOT of stress and anxiety. What’s most frustrating is this bloated stomach! I just want to lose it! It’s one step at a time but I’m glad that I chose to stop drinking alcohol. I didn’t like who I was becoming and the example I was setting for my young adult kids (21 & 18) I know I still have a long way to go but every day I don’t drink is a step in the right direction. I’m actually quite proud of myself and hope to inspire others. Thank you for this awesome video and I have to say, at the end of it, your skin and appearance was VERY evident. @@jsdoit2 Well I just remember all I have lost because of drinking like I did. The pain and hurt I caused others and myself is a huge motivator to not drink. I know what I become if I have a drink and I never want to be that person again. I work at a busy restaurant and serve booze all the time but I'm not tempted because I know where that will lead me and I never want to go back there. Everyone's journey is different, I hope knowing about mine will somehow help you.

I grew up in a Mormon household. Both my parents never drank. I never drank even in high school with a LOT of social pressure to do so. I'm 47 and still don't drink. There are some social situations at work when I have had to awkwardly pass when offered a free drink. But to be honest, I have never felt like I have been deprived of anything because I don't drink. I respect all people's personal choices just do it responsibly.

Well done to you for completing your challenge 👏 I've just completed a month of not drinking alcohol and the difference has been amazing. I like you, have been more creative. I've started painting, nothing in particular, just wanted to experiment. I've also noticed a difference in myself when it comes to spending time with my granddaughter. It feels so special, real quality time. I feel happier, much happier and am not worrying about things as much as I once did. I've lost some weight! Not masses but enough to make a difference to how I feel about myself. It's also made me want to eat better and exercise more. Most importantly, I feel proud of myself because alcohol has been an issue for me over the past 5 years. I've been in some dark headspaces. Feels good to actually enjoy life for what it has to offer. Thank you for sharing and well done once again!
