To avoid confusion, you have to know: 8 meters per second is the speed of the highest rising elevator in this building serving from floors C to 138 10 meters per second is applied in both directions for the observation deck/sky lobby elevators. Service floors:- C and 123 ( Lower deck ) and G and 124 ( Upper deck )

I counted the cables on the elevator machine and I noticed that there were 20 of them. That’s a lot of cables!
@caroleast96366 ай бұрын
I would guess that this lift has double wrap traction. You will see 20 ropes on the sheave but each rope passes around a secondary sheave and then back to a second pass. That’s really only 10 ropes. Still quite a lot compared to most “ordinary” lifts.

I remember watching this video 6 or 8 (possibly up to 10) years ago. It's still impressive, but as several other buildings have reached 2,000 feet in height, it doesn't wow me quite as much as it did years ago.
@Avidiy7 ай бұрын
3:41 CRAZY! They go so fast, yet can go so slow! The motor must be spining so slow. Example: suppose you have a motor that spins 10,000 rpm. When you want to spin it slow say 10rpm you run into problems, the motor would not have enough torque at so little voltage or frequency (deciding on motor type; DC or AC), you need a closed loop feedback, if the speed is going below what we want it would speed up and if it is too fast it will slow down, but still is VERY tricky to do that! Edit: fixed grammatical issues as well as spellings
@caroleast96366 ай бұрын
Remember lifts are direct drive and a high speed lift will have a motor that is not even geared to the traction sheave. These machines are essentially just a very big powerful motor. They need to have the torque to drive a load away from a standstill and are designed to do just that. If you’re used to seeing electric motors running at thousands of rpm, you have to realise that these are very very different
@Avidiy6 ай бұрын
@@caroleast9636 I totally agree these motors have VERY high torque, but what I meant is it is like driving a car that is in 5th gear and wanting to go 1mph, you just can’t do that very easily. If you see I said “Example: suppose…” that means it is an example

@lewishamos94027 жыл бұрын
The burj khalifa has top of the line safety features, the concrete has a fire resistant coating as well as a sprinkler system throughout the building, no fire could bring this building down as it is a rock solid concrete structure. In the unlikely event all the stairwells were blocked there are refuge rooms and balconys where people could get airlifted to safety.
@Justme-ei4xf6 жыл бұрын
Actually, except for other towers, Burj khalifa the world's tallest structure is equipped with 38 fire resistant emergency evacuation lifts that operate during incidents of fire. People needn't use stairs to evaluate. The building planning is the best of this century.

@youoyyoyou This building is in the Arabic world. It is very unlikely that the Muslim extremists would attack another Muslim country. If they do, they will lose support among all other Muslims in the world. Unless the Christian extremists launch the next Crusade against the Muslims, the building would not become a target. Timothy McVeigh was a Christian and he attacked his own country. So anything is possible. Unlikely but not impossible.

They need to make elevator's have on board Linear Induction motors like Maglev trains while climbing up on a worm gear and rack system and getting it's power from a 3rd rail or Pantograph/electric wire similar to subway train. There would be a back up battery with computer that locks the brakes once power loss in the main electrical system is detected thus preventing an elevator from falling. That will get rid of heavy cables and motors at the top of the building.
