I do industrial refrigeration and have a neighbor who works on elevators. As a service tech I thought, “I wonder if there’s any elevator tech channels like there are refrigeration tech channels... 🤔” and, here we have it! Much respect man 🤙 These are brain busting trades. You got balls to be messing with work inside an elevator shaft, brah... But, I guess that’s what they say about us ammonia techs 🤘I’m gonna go ahead and subscribe 👍

@@MQElevators; Yeah, you guys out there posting what you do is amazing for these industries. It’s tough with what I do working on ammonia refrigeration systems because of liability and customers not wanting their facilities put on blast... I’d love to start a channel that deals with only ammonia, but I’m not sure how I’d go about it. There are a couple dudes that upload some stuff, but anyway. Great work, buddy. Again, much respect.

Do you work a lot at visible heights? I'm looking into this trade, I have no problems of working on top of an elevator like you show in the video. But visible/open heights like rooftops, boom lifts etc. isn't really my thing. If you deal with open heights could you give me an example scenario? Much appreciated 😊

I would say there is not much for visible heights. Even when you working on top of an elevator next to another, like a duplex The hoistway is dark so you never really see how far down it is.

Depends on the make/model of the elevator. Modern ones have a keyway in the car and a switch on the main board and probably a way for a service laptop to enable the access.

How universal is your trade? If you were to travel out of state or country, would you be able to work using the same tools or are there certain regulations and practices you would need to learn? I’m an electrical apprentice but I’m being offered an interview for an elevator technician apprentice position Thank you
@MQElevators
@MQElevators Жыл бұрын
I can only speak for here in Canada but I do believe it’s pretty universal. It is not a red seal trade yet, meaning your licence doesn’t transfer from province to province but I know guys who have successfully challenged the exam in other provinces. Equipment would be the same for the most part and the tools as well. I think you should seriously consider taken the position, not sure if you’re in the states but maybe someone can add to this response.

I'm an airplane mechanic. I work for an airline. Which is pretty much the only way to have a liveable single income nowadays in the US. I want to get away from living in cities (the only real drawback to working for airlines imo) And I've heard you elevator guys make money equal to or better than us. (Just breaking 6 figures) To be an elevator tech, how savy do you need to be? Just basic wire splices, metal shaving/filing and troubleshooting smart? Smarter, like applying seals & sheet metal/welding/more advanced stuff? Dumber? Like part changes & adjusting this & that? (I mean all this objectively. Not calling anyone dumb lol)

How do you like this profession? Do you see yourself as an old man doing this? I’m already 30+ but in pretty good shape. I have a few years in industrial maintenance and currently work in a large steel press facility. I see the union is accepting apprentices currently into the trade. It’s a good hour plus drive daily to the location, but the money is pretty enticing. I understand it’s a bit less while going through the training period. Just always good to get insight from those inside.

In my opinion it’s a great trade to get into, I’m 38 and have been in the trade about 12 years. How do you stop people from calling the elevator while you are trying to test it?

There is an inspection switch located on the car top which gives me control of the elevator.

I used to have nightmares about this kind of stuff. I’d get on questionable elevators that would go up or down so fast, I would be pinned to the floor, or free falling.

Damn, I had an elevator apprenticeship opportunity when I was coming to the end of high school. I decided to take the college route & ended up doing industrial refrigeration. I wish I would’ve taken the elevator opportunity.

@@MQElevators definitely, I just wish I wasn’t brain washed into thinking I had to go to college to be successful. I ended up with a comparable job anyway. The apprenticeship would’ve paid me to learn.
