As a service tech I thought, “I wonder if there’s any elevator tech channels like there are refrigeration tech channels... 🤔” and, here we have it! Much respect man 🤙 These are brain busting trades. Do you work a lot at visible heights? I'm looking into this trade, I have no problems of working on top of an elevator like you show in the video. But visible/open heights like rooftops, boom lifts etc. isn't really my thing. If you deal with open heights could you give me an example scenario? Much appreciated 😊
@MQElevators3 жыл бұрын
I would say there is not much for visible heights. Even when you working on top of an elevator next to another, like a duplex The hoistway is dark so you never really see how far down it is.

Depends on the make/model of the elevator. Modern ones have a keyway in the car and a switch on the main board and probably a way for a service laptop to enable the access.

How universal is your trade? If you were to travel out of state or country, would you be able to work using the same tools or are there certain regulations and practices you would need to learn? I’m an electrical apprentice but I’m being offered an interview for an elevator technician apprentice position Thank you
@MQElevators Жыл бұрын
I can only speak for here in Canada but I do believe it’s pretty universal. It is not a red seal trade yet, meaning your licence doesn’t transfer from province to province but I know guys who have successfully challenged the exam in other provinces. Equipment would be the same for the most part and the tools as well. I think you should seriously consider taken the position, not sure if you’re in the states but maybe someone can add to this response.

I want to get away from living in cities (the only real drawback to working for airlines imo) And I've heard you elevator guys make money equal to or better than us. (Just breaking 6 figures) To be an elevator tech, how savy do you need to be? Just basic wire splices, metal shaving/filing and troubleshooting smart? Smarter, like applying seals & sheet metal/welding/more advanced stuff? Dumber? Like part changes & adjusting this & that? (I mean all this objectively. Not calling anyone dumb lol)
