I was in 2nd grade special ed and my teacher didn't think special needs kids should be allowed to go to school. He would regularly be over an hour late for work leaving a class of energetic kids alone together. If any of us were even remotely bad he would physicly grab us and throw us into the quiet room, the quiet room was a small barren room with nothing in it. You would always be in there for what he said would be 10 minutes but he regularly forgot about us and if we tried to remind him he would count that as talking and moving so he would ignore us and double the time. If we made noise we had our time doubled, if we moved too far from the back our time was doubled. I was in that class for a year and a half. Everyday my mama would call the superintendent and try to get me out everyday she said there was nothing she could do until after a year and a half she gave in and got me out.

I had a teacher my senior year of high school who mocked me for having a temporary physical disability while healing from an injury. Every day she tried getting me to do something she knew I couldn’t do in order to go “well if you wanna be lazy then you can walk to the principals office.” After a month of that happening every day the principal started to feel bad for me and let me finish off the school year without having to do any more work in that class.

very inappropriate. I have done a lot of work with kids and teens on the spectrum and also with kids with disabilities and mental illnesses (not in teaching but more in home services and counseling and such) . Public humiliation is the worst thing you can do. We are there to encourage not shame. I actually know a few people with AD that are adults and they have grown up to function very well. There is a guy at the camp I work at in the summer that I never knew had it until he told me (I just assumed he was a bit shy or a bit awkward but that was it). When he told me I was very supportive and told him he was doing an amazing job with the kids.

When I was in high school, I had a teacher that got fired for singling out my friend (who had mild autism. he was high functioning, could barely tell) for having his phone out 30 seconds before the bell. After rightfully refusing to hand over his phone the teacher started jabbing him in the chest with his finger telling him that he was useless and whatnot. Needless to say the principle came through the next day to formally apologize for that interaction and to inform us that teacher had been fired.

In fifth grade this girl had a runny nose in math class, and she picked up a random crumpled paper towel from the floor. She used the paper towel and showed it to some guy at her table, and he screamed "EW!" While our math teacher was teaching. She realized who showed the paper towel and shamed her for how nasty she was, and how no one could like her because of that. When the girl cried, our teacher recorded her crying. And while we had an assembly a week later, she showed the video as a "presentation". The same girl started crying again, while being shamed by the whole 5th grade and teachers. She didn't come back 3 months later, and when she did, our math teacher started crying because SHE was going to get fired from doing that, and was suspended from working at that school for 2 years.

I had a 5th grade teacher that would bully me, one time we had an awesome log cabin project that we made at home that was inspired by the book we were currently reading , I accidentally knocked one of my classmate's projects off of their desk, because said teacher was pushing past me and I tripped backwards with a backpack full of books to get out of their way (this was last period which is why I had a backpack) my teacher began yelling at me and belittling me, saying that I knocked the project off on purpose and the reason I did so was because I was jealous of my classmate because their project looked way better than mine (the kid who's project got knocked over actually stood up for me) . That same teacher also yelled at me for wanting to read a book at home because it was quieter and more peaceful than at school. They also openly mocked me for reading books way above my grade level, I was reading books that were highschool level in 5th grade (which was the Eragon series btw, that was my favorite book series growing up) My 7th grade math teacher also threw markers and board erasers to try and get the kids in the class to be quiet. One time the teacher threw an eraser as usual and it hit me in my eye (it was meant for the kid behind me as the teacher said) and I told my mom and my mom talked to the principal about it. The teacher got reprimanded and they never threw anything again. They also apologized profusely to me but I basically ignored that teacher for the rest of the school year.

That's a question a lot of people respond with when someone says that they hate their job. Sadly, in most cases, it's not that easy to just quit. I remember when I was like 10-11, I had fractured my right hand like a week before exams cuz someone pushed me in the gym. The next day I came to class cuz I didn't want to miss the lessons for the exam and realized that I have not done my homework. So I thought she would forgive me as I broke my arm. But nope she came straight and asked me why didn't I do it. I told her that I have fractured my right hand but she thought I was lying and started to beat me with a stick on the fractured hand. I started to cry up because of the pain then my friends told her that I was speaking truth. Only then she stopped. I went home and told my parents about her and they reported to the principal and then she got fired from school. Now she works at at local cafe as a waitress. Got her KARMA.

Before I had to go to school, I had to go to preschool, since I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 years old. So when I finally went to school, at first I went to special education, that's what other disabled kids and adults would go to. But apparently they decided to put me in general education classes or I called them "normal classes", basically have me mixed in with non-disabled kids. Through I do have close relationships with non-disabled students but the best for me is disabled students since I'm disabled. So even to this day they still do this junk to me so just because oh "I don't need the assistance from professional aid people" or "it's because of my intelligence and mildness of autism" well my autism may be mild but I still show the behavior and symptoms just like any person with autism would do. So to this day, it still angers me and plus I'm expected to interact with non-disabled people, because they think that it's better and to be away from disabled students. When I was in 8th grade, back when I have a IEP meeting (since I was put on IEP, which it mean Individualized Education Program) that we was talking normal things and the school psychologist was talking about my autism that since I didn't show any behavior like flapping my arms, flickering my fingers, rocking back and forward to side to side, or anything like that. All a sudden she rediagnosed me with specific learning disability. Yeah, they tend to mis or rediagnose people with something else. Not only it enraged me but my family was well. Yes, I get it that learning disability can co-occur with autism but that's not the case. The case is that they have said I have learning disability and she's not showing any autistic behavior or anything like that. Well I still do have autism and I still do have difficulties of learning, working, and thinking. So I hope that they realized that diagnosing me with another disability or condition that is often mistaken or confused or misunderstood is not ok. So that's why I disliked the school psychologist. And I never going to talk to her again. Oh by the way, since my meeting, I was seriously "banned" from riding the bus to school or home when the meeting took place. But since we're doing anything virtual, then it's different but I'm talking about when the virus have happened. So still I am to this day still enraged by them rediagnosing me with a different disability. But just being autistic is still hard for me to socialize with anyone. I mean that I tend to have real bad meltdowns that are to the extreme and it's hard to just control them, especially in a situation where it involved sensory stimuli. Which I'm hypersensitive to loud noises, bright/flashing or flickering lights, certain textures and touches (that includes rubbing), certain tastes. Smell never really affected me but the ones that I have listed really got me stricter and picky when it comes to those. But like I said, just socializing in general really a tough time for me, since there have been times in school and classrooms that I would all a sudden burst into tears crying or be in a fit or rage, which that includes screaming, crying, yelling, hitting things or myself, and having a meltdown. Well that's basically is what a meltdown is. But sometimes I can have a shutdown and then I just either shy away or withdraw and try escape from the situation. It's just me being a autistic but of course during my first few years in middle school, I was bullied for 2 years, which its unusual for me, I know I have been teased quite a lot before but it's not for long but for bullying for that matter is not only legit but it's serious for cases, that yeah, it caused me to because depressed and anxious when being about people, especially guys (men) since the bully themself was a guy, so that yeah I'm becoming more wary, cautious, and alert when being around guys and people in general.

My sibling (I'm the adopted one in the family) had to go through a rather tough early childhood after moving from South Africa to New Zealand. The teacher they had was heavily against other people using 'unique' languages and traumatized the kid by always putting them in time out, telling them off and even tearing up their artwork. To this day they don't speak Afrikaans and only understand a little bit language (with reading and writing)

My worst teacher wasnt actually mine. It was my sisters. Her teacher was cruel. She was cruel to anyone and even tried to make people go to detention for dropping their pen by accident. She wasnt every fired but she quit. That was because my sister wasn't let to the toilet in school when she was sick and it was so bad that she was sick on the teacher. She quit after and all of the people in her classes were relived.
