This was the World Steelband Music Festival 2000 (WSMF2000) which was held in Trinidad, TT, between Monday 09th and Saturday 21st October 2000. It included the Steeldrum categories; Soloists, Duets, Quartets, Ensemble and Steelbands/Steel Orchestras. The events were held variously around Port of Spain; but the general Steelband/Steel Orchestra events were either held at the Queens Park Savannah or at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain, Trinidad. The events of this video took place at main Steelbands/Steel Orchestra venue; the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain, Trinidad, TT. 18 Steelband/Steel Orchestra qualified for the WSMF2000 from the following World regions: North America: CASYM, Brooklyn, NY, USA & Northern Illinois University Steel Band, DeKalb, IL, USA. Caribbean: NCB Angel Harps (G), St George's, Grenada & Starlift (St V & G), +, St Vincent & The Grenadines. Europe: Calypsociation, Romainville, France; PANch 2000, Leukerbad, Switzerland; Steel Pan Lovers, Karjaa, Finland & BWIA Ebony, London, UK. T&T: Our Boys & Tobago Buccooneers, TB region - Tobago; Courts Laventille Sound Specialists, BWIA Invaders & TT Defence Force Steel Orchestra, NT region; Exodus, Moods, Parry's Pan School & Solo Pan Knights, ET region; TCL Skiffle Bunch, SC region - Trinidad. Starlift (St V & G) could not make it and dropped out; leaving 17 contenders in all; 8 Steelband/Steel Orchestra qualified for the WSMF2000 Finals. BWIA Ebony, London, UK, placed 4th in the World SMF200 Finals. Steel Pan Lovers, Karjaa, Finland, placed 8th in the World SMF200 Finals; and were the Peoples Choice with the longest ovation of the night; Saturday, 21st October 2000.
