The economy is doing very well the problem is that he did not take wealth inequality, inflation, and wage stagnation into account. The US has the largest gap in wealth inequality of all advanced economies. Decades of neoliberal economic policies, starting with Reagan, and highlighted at its worst when Obama threw the public under the bus and bailed the banks out with corporate welfare have led to this. Neoliberal policies has led to a hollowing out of the lower, working, and middle classes and a lack of investment in communities. The Democrats are controlled by oligarchs and largely reject left-wing populism and while Trump is also in the pockets of oligarchs, he performs a form of fake populism that Democrats have no populist answer to counter it with.

No recession during the election year, especially during the election campaign. AND REAL GDP being as good or better than the past two terms. The second is is 100% true. However, the recession key is a bit fuzzy. People argue that the U.S. is in a recession, but nothing was announced officially by the The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
