A day before death, no man could avoid it in these trenches. Some wounded and already dying or those suffering in their minds of hope for home just to steady their bleak looking fates. Sitting alone but in a close group staring up at the night sky a man sat with me, spoke calmly of what was and would come. He shared his melencholy poetry which spoke honest about this hell that we suffer, we shared a smoke which was my first. I watched him try to lift the mood with trivial talk, but I just stared ahead listening and smoking. He seemed to accept my silence. He gave me the title of friend, and that was when I finally looked at the man and tried to say something he just cut me off kindly with a chuckle some drink. I stared at a man who felt he would die. I..His only friend. I remember his smile yet I never knew his name. He was indeed my friend. ((Wrote this out of inspiration)) (Wonderful work, you did such a great job with the subject and your skills continue to grow 😺)

The war ended just a week later. He was only 25. Lt. Owen's story is important and fascinating, and he left behind a small window to the true maddening hellscape of war, a reality most of us will never comprehend. But one of the most important things to consider is the fact that every last soldier who was and will be killed has a life that is just as full and meaningful and valuable. Every single one is the main character in an important story. Every single one matters.

Jim, you are literally THE most versatile actor I know of. It’s like you can somehow even slightly change your facial structure for different characters. Also: do you have an Amazon wish list for props and equipment? If so, I would encourage you to seriously consider sharing a link to it on your About page. I am certain that many of your subscribers (help me out here, guys!) would love to support you and your work by providing what you need to continue creating amazing content, and I believe you could anonymize your surname (?) and address (or have things shipped to an Amazon Locker). I think this would only work for items shipped directly from Amazon, not third party sellers, since third party sellers would need the buyer to provide your address. I guess you’d have to confirm that all this is possible; your privacy is super important, especially since your channel is exploding. If you feel shy about posting the list, you could explain that it’s at the urging of your subscribers. 😊 I believe that your overseas friends can make purchases from Amazon UK, pay in our own currency, and the items would be shipped from the U.K.; I’d be happy to make the experiment. Anyway, please consider it. We want to support you! Edit: I know you have Patreon too, (and everyone should support Jim there!!! He has ONE tier- $1!!) but since Patreon is subscription-based, an Amazon wish list might be an additional fun one-time way for your subscribers to support your work. 🙂

This brings back so many memories. When I was in college I worked in an archival department. While there my department provided valuable information of first hand accounts of WWI, specifically letters, photographs and journal entries. Myself and my fellow student assistants actually transcribed the letters and diary entries used in a documentary that was made from our collections. That job made me fall in love with information science, which is what I am earning my masters in now. The accounts of those soldiers, many of them younger than me, we're just haunting, especially the letters of those who's loved ones never made it home.

My great grandfather was 16 when he went into the British army. He walked 22 miles to the nearest recruiting station and later got sent to fight at the Somme. He took a piece of shrapnel to the shoulder, and he never had use of that arm again. Luckily he survived the war and led a nice life back in England. I never got to meet him, but I really wish I had so I could have written down some of his experiences. It’s so sad that we have no one heart from the Great War to tell us their stories. So many have been taken to the grave that deserve to be told!

A huge fan here ^_^ You are doing an amazing job helping me and thousands of people to relax, daydream and sleep… I have a request for something more claustrophobic, maybe? Like the scenery from the vintage film „Cube” (trying to find a way out) or maybe… a „burried alive” scenario (you know: warm and cozy with a bit of dread?). Or sitting in a confessional and confessing sins (doesn’t have to be very serious ;)) Or something with an aura like the short film made by Salvador Dali „Un chien andalou”? Of course tasteful, as you always do it :) Thank you for your hard work!

This is beautiful and so respectfully, soulfully done. Thank you for sharing this with us. On a less dour note, as good as this is, I think you could easily do an ASMR video as Captain Elliott Spencer showing off his new acquisition, a French puzzle box made of gold... Heck, maybe even Lemarchand himself!
@JimASMR5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. And that sounds like a fun puzzle box 😉

Oh, Jim! I was riveted! I felt pride and sorrow and when you some about everyone having a battle I cried. But it was a good, soft cry of acceptance and moving forward across my own No Man's Land.

Absolutely brilliant, beautiful and very powerful. I don't think anyone else could have tackled this subject matter with such tact. You truly have a gift. Might I suggest a concept for another war themed video: you are one of many soldiers stuck in the sinking ships at Peal Harbor and have to make peace with the fact that you may not make it before you can be rescued. It's a very heavy subject, I know, but I have absolute faith that you could convey their story with unmeasured dignity and grace.

Lance Corporal Schofield reporting for tingle duties, sir! This is an INCREDIBLE roleplay! I love "1917," and I recently became acquainted with Wilfred Owen's poetry, so this is perfect. Thank you for this! It's one I'll be revisiting many times! :D
