that aircraft was so amazing for it's time. One of the German ace's Werner Voss second only to the red baron took on several British Ace's believe it was at least 7 British aircraft and held them off for a very long time for the most part all by himself. They suspect at a point where he could have bugged out and left the fight that he got to greedy for another kill and ended up shot down himself. Dogfights did an episode on the fight and aircraft

Do you know what the average life span of a WW1 fighter pilot was ? only about two weeks on average unless they were one of the few that were really good. Makes me glad I was a present day fighter pilot as I managed to last over 10 years behind the stick of a F/A-18

@@kanapkuba4072 pulling 9+ G's is brutal defiantly something I don't miss doing outside of pulling high G's nothing can compare to being in the seat of a hornet in flight. hitting 300+ miles at roof/tree top altitude, or down at wave top level during a war game to stay below "enemy" radar pulling up at the last second to drop a "bomb". No better feeling in the world than being a United States Naval aviator. Even just sitting on the base hanger or carrier hearing those engines starting up was something special. I would have stayed in longer and might have reached Captain or even an Admiral rank, but I developed problems like PTSD which made it unsafe to serve.
