Check out the Merch Store: teespring.com/stores/growling-sidewinder-store Once again, apologizes for the lack of tacview in this one, I'll get it fixed for the next video. So as I said in the video I'm interested in bringing new Sims to the channel where we can explore different and new aircraft so I'm trying to introduce Il-2 into the channels rotation this will allow us to have an in-depth look at some different world war 2 aircraft and dive into the history a little more, Let me know your thoughts on this idea and please feel free to suggest other sims and games that may allow us to do this on the channel. Thank you all for watching, and a special thank you to B3AR828 for creating this IL-2 mission for me and making my life much much easier. Thanks guys Take care.

Very cool to see IL-2 Content! I'd be interested to see you flying the 109 in one of these dogfights. It's a very... unique performance envelope, because its advantages/disadvantages are highly contextual. A spitfire always has to turn fight, a 190 always has to boom and zoom, but a 109 is a turn fighter against P-51s, and an energy fighter against spitfires. I don't always have my best fights in the 109, but I always have my most interesting ones with it.

If you're looking to get into WW2, I would HIGHLY recommend IL2 Cliffs of Dover and the Desert Wings add-on. Team Fusion has done an incredible job of improving the base game and the official release has been excellent. Sure the graphics are dated, but I would say the flight models and full-fidelity interactive cockpits truly make it excel to DCS level of realism. Hell ya its so nice watching you do realistic dogfights instead of modern jet fighters that rarely if ever do any dog fighting. Love jet fighting with missiles but this is what gives people a chance to experience what happened to those fighter pilots of world war 2. The Tempest is so much better then the BF 109 though in turn and keeps up with speed. Next that would be exciting would be the FW 190 with the tempest? Love the channel.

Right after Pearl Harbor, the AAF's "modern" inventory was made up of P-39s and P-40E Kittyhawks. During America's "hard year" (Dec 41 - Dec 42) obsolescent aircraft like the -39 and -40E often became fodder for experienced Japanese pilots in their lightweight, highly maneuverable aircraft. However . . . the experiences of the AVG--the Flying Tigers in China--operating even older versions of the P-40 laid the groundwork for energy-based tactics that literally kept the USA in the war for a year. The message from Gen. Claire Chenault of the Flying Tigers was clear--avoid a dogfight at all costs. Get above the enemy and dive on them. As you're climbing up after your initial dive, dive again as soon as possible. You're flying an all metal airplane with multiple fifty cals and (in the P-39) a 20mm cannon. You don't have to be the more advanced aircraft (or the more advanced fighter pilot, lol, !). You just have to exploit all the advantages of a typical pre-war American plane--which came down to exploiting it's weight / firepower for energy.

Best pros about tempest in my opinion are: 1) excellent allaround visibility bubble canopy, 2) killer guns, 3) high speed. I think you did an excellent job in the dogfight riding at the edge of the blackout. That really shows the good stick ability of the pilot. Some of those gunshots were clearly going to miss because of incorrect lead, though. I like to practice in single player also shooting snapshots where you have different plane of motion wrt. enemy aircraft. So that you let the enemy fly left to right across the full view of the canopy into the gunsight and you keep your own wings level. Sort of like "ambush method" for deflection shooting. Shooting at front quarter snapshots can also end the fight quickly without risking full headon. With jets the closure rate is so insane that front quarter shots are more difficult. For those in-plane deflection shots where the target goes under the nose, I think sometimes the AI sees that and make a tricky dodge when its not visible to you xD.

@@-Zevin- The Russians usually got older used Spitfires, it wasn't best at low speed and low altitude where they tended to fight, plus there's a load of Soviet propaganda to factor in. With Spitfires and Mustangs from the same time period running the same fuel the Spitfire should have the advantage. The P-51 was incredible considering it's range and pilot skill will play a big part, but it's oversold by those US history channel documentaries. It was very good and it had the range to go with the bombers, but by then the Luftwaffe was diminished and the Mustangs usually had a big numerical superiority. In every US warbird documentary I've seen it's the usual nonsense about "awesome power" and "greatest aircraft of the war", be that the P-51, P-38 or P-47. The pilots also seem to invent boom and zoom in each one too, which everyone was aware of and the German aces had been using since the start of the war (I think they did invent the silly name though). The only area where the Mk XIV was properly lacklustre in was with its range, though that's tongue-and-cheek with Spitfires. Those kill figures I believe are also based off of claims, which are known to be exaggerated by an exorbitant amount. I believe there is also no record of total Spitfire kills.

I like this stuff GS and I’ll watch more definitely. Maybe some DCS thrown in from time to time would be good too. Cheers for the entertainment.

My Grandfather flew this after Hurricanes in WW2 and the Battle of Britain. Must have been ok as I'm typing this now. He was a wiry, no nonsense gentleman. You wouldn't mess with him. He was, like many of that generation, hard as nails to the bone. Even in his 80's, when he spoke, you listened. No side to him at all. The world needs more of him now.

Oh my god IL-2! I'm really happy to see this, I hope we will indeed get more of this! War Thunder would be interesting if only because I think the way the game plays (mouse aim, third person) really changes things up a lot if you're not doing the sim mode, but otherwise I feel like it's generally worse than IL-2 in sim mode.

I will watch all of it. I would love to watch you master the WW1 planes. It’s historically interesting and it’s where it all started.

Further to my last, I have a request. The Tempest is my preferred plane in IL 2 for a number of reasons so I was sorry to see the Tacview failed you. But for (hopefully) future IL2 videos, I wonder if you could make the HUD option available on the screen so that we can see your speed and Gs during manoeuvres. Cheers.

hey GS! try fighting in X-Plane11 or FSX acceleration. idk if they support tacview, but you can give them a try. idk much about fsx acceleration, but in X-Plane 11 you can set up multiple enemy planes and friendly planes as well (total 15 planes).

This is very interesting actually! Learning about WW2 planes. They aren't as boring as one may think. And the graphics are awesome. They even made those little flames come out of the engines' exhaust pipes! That is so cool! As i commented before, i'd leave no more than 1/3 of the time for tacview. And as regards to history of a given airplane, maybe you should just make separate videos about each one. There's a lot of them in different countries and it's very interesting to know which ones faced each other in real battles and which were victorious. There is literally a ton of info you could provide! I think it would be very, very interesting.

Enjoying your WWII videos, do keep them up! I also grew up reading books on the air war, especially the Battle of Britain (even though I eventually became an infantry officer 🪖), so whatever you can deliver in IL-2 would be most welcome. ‘SUBSCRIBED’

I too just got back into IL-2. Having a lot of difficulty though. It's been about 10/15 years since I switched from CFS2 with 1% aircraft to it. IL-2 has changed a lot. Anyone who wants to help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been flying and greatly enjoying (Except I get smoked a lot) a combat flight sim called, “Aces High.” In former years I flew first “Fighter Ace” and later “War Birds.” Aces High used to have three arenas: Early War, Mid War and Late War. My favorite was Mid War since most flying was 1v1, but when Aces High up graded their server to Aces High III many folks couldn’t follow so AH now has but one Main Arena. Typically at night there will be from 100 to ~150 aircraft in the air at one time or in ground battles or air / sea battles. My understanding is that the flight models are quite accurate and their server is extremely stable. One last thing that is different from other Combat Flight Sims and that is that there are but three countries: Knights, Rooks, and Bishops. Also, regardless of country all but a few aircraft are available, and those are reserved for folks that have enough victories to have “Perk points” with which are used to access those very few planes.

Back when I flew AHII the “Tempy” was one of those perk planes. Meaning it was so dominant you had to earn it and if you lost it you lost the perks you spent to get it
