ASP PRESENTS:
USMC Pistol, Rifle Cartridge, and BAR Belts
The type of belt a Marine was issued depended on the weapon he carried. A Marine who was issued a M1911 handgun and a M1 Carbine or a Reising / Thompson Sub-Machine Gun would have a pistol belt to carry magazine pouches for his firearms. A Marine who was issued a 1903 Springfield Rifle, M1 Garand, or M1941 Johnson would have a cartridge belt for his .30-06 rounds and clips. A Marine who was issued a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) would carry a BAR belt for his 12 box magazines consisting of 260 rounds of .30-06.

The M1 Garand enbloc clip could fit into the pockets of the earlier cartridge belts as well as two 5 Rnd strippers could fit into the later M1923 or WWII period cartridge belt. Have done it with both.

Marines didnt get the BAR until mid 1942 so the belts came from Army supply

THE LITTLE STRAP INSIDE THE AMMO BELT WAS TO HOLD ONE STRIPPER CLIP OF FIVE ROUNDS SO IT WOULD NOT FALL OUT WHEN YOU TOOK OUT THE OTHER. IT WAS DISPENSED WITH WHEN YOU HAD 8 SHOT ENBLOC GARAND CLIPS.

I'm guessing the patent number is for the metal end and adjustment hooks. The same style of metalwork was used for adjustment on the M1907 cartridge belt if my memory serves and it'd be fair to assume Mills took out the patent for the design around the time the M1907 equipment entered service with July 16th 1907 being the patent date for that piece of metal work, not a date of manufacture.
@gunnerjames1056
@gunnerjames1056 4 жыл бұрын
My belt has the exact same markings on the metal end, as well as another date of May 18' 15. Under the first left and right pouch flaps closest to buckles, is stamped "June 1918", then "MILLS" in a bullet shape pattern. Under that is "PAT. JULY 16, 07". Under that, is "MAY 18, 1915". I am thinking June 1918 is possibly manufacture date.

Those flap snaps are the 'Lift The Dot' type, they only open from the bottom, you lift up on the flap and it comes off the stud. These were also used on Model T Ford tops and other, they've been around a long time.

5:50 I thought this guy was an expert. The patent date is July 16th 1907, but the belt itself was made March 18th 1915. I mean check your stuff before you make a video on it.

@@tfresh2838 He didnt know the date of his own belt that he made a video on. Which is literally just about belts. Knowing more information or not I mean just prepare a little.

@@historyhunting_usa4665 ok i understand that yes he did make a video about these belts and didnt really seem to know more then 90% about them but he does know a lot from all the videos i watched. The only other thing i can say is he used a repro- p42 frog skin. It was clearly repro as it had pac man shapes on it.

The first belt he showed did not end in '29, but rather '40. Dates typically seen are '40 but can also be seen in a '39 variant. The maker of that style belt in RM.C.o.

the puckered bottom means it was mfgd by mills webbing company. the july 15 1907 patent date refers to when components of the belt were patented not when it was mfgd

Very nice video. I've become very interested in web gear. Just ordered 2 BAR belts made in Belgium. I think they were made by a FN subcontractor. Will see when I get them. I have an original unissued USGI. I will have to look to see if it's USMC.

Were riflemen/enlisted personnel issued pistol belts despite not having sidearms for their canteens, first aid kits, .etc.

Anton Chigurh it depended on what your MOS was , like if you were an assistant machine gunner you would probably have the pistol belt

If you carried a m1 carbine tompson Grease gun or a 1911 you probably would have a pistol belt with special pouches to hold the appropriate clips for the weapons.

I have a lime green colored cartridge belt that I believe has 1945 marked on the back but is missing the Springfield stripper clip straps. They weren't removed but instead were simply not added on. Is it genuine from WW2 or a European knock off import?

I have 4 or 5 pistol belts used to have a ammo belt paid $20 for it the POUCHES had some clips with,M.1 grand, clips with 8 bullets all tracer bullets loaded in the clips. Some of the pistol, belts look like reproductions reason i said that they look so new. I hate the new Us army pistol belts they started making in the 1980s and 1990s because they took the brass buckles off of them and put that plastic on them and it's junk

I'd love to shoot a BAR, but I'd hate to be the poor guy dragging it and all that ammo 50 miles just to die in the first 30 seconds of my first battle.
