It's all speculation, but it seems more likely that if aliens come, they will likely originate from our own galaxy. It can also be possible that some of our technology may more advanced in areas that they may never have found a necessary purpose to create. For example... Alien ability to travel great distances give them advantages we wouldn't be able to match. But, maybe the particular beings that do visit us have never found a need to create weapons of mass destruction because they've evolved without the history of violence that we do. They may be horrified to learn what we do to your own people. Or not.

Distances between stars in the universe are vast, meaning that the cost and the time to perform an interstellar travel are huge to perform such a travel just out of curiosity. You’re looking at everything from an anthropic point of view, including distance, cost and time. For example: a super advanced civilization may have developed technology that negates the distance (e.g. wormholes), the cost to send a research vessel may be negligible for them (e.g. when they are building things likeDyson spheres) and they may be immortal or near immortal (e.g. they may be partially or entirely machines or cyborgs, or learned to stop the aging process, etc…).

Some of those germs share a belief that the pothole was made just for them by an interactive creator who loves them unconditionally (unless the germs don't believe in the creator - DIE HERETICS!). There were holy wars when one faction's belief that the pothole was square conflicted with the faction whose belief that the pothole was more round. Both factions were nearly wiped out completely and the survivors either converted into one of the more fringe groups who believed the pothole's edge was asymmetric (with them having just annihilated the "symmetricists") or they were killed.

Alien life is quite likely to exist. Intelligent alien life wouldn't be that common. However, it's extremely egocentric to think they're going to be anthropomorphic, use similar technologies to ours, have a similar concept of communication, mathematics or to even be composed of the same elements as us. It's also extremely egocentric to think they're going to have any curiosity in us, or that they're actively going to come from wherever they're at, just to see us or colonize us or whatever, like we're that special.
@jamesmylife6578

It’s very likely that their technology developed like ours so more than likely they would go through the same stuff as ours. Perhaps developing smart phone like stuff, digital assistants like Siri or Alexa, stuff that would make their lives easier which, if they have the same problems as us like needing food and water which I would assume they do they would also have gone through the same technology advances as we are. They may not be using all the ones that we are using currently because they have probably developed past that. Like the telegram or candles which could be replaced with phones with scented lamps or something like that.

@@jamesmylife6578 But that's still a very anthropocentric view... There are other elements that can replace carbon in biogenesis, like silicon, and likely a silicon based life form wouldn't be that depending on water, there are other solvents that life could use like methane, there could be anaerobic life forms, they might not have the same evolution pressures at all since they can be long lived and have a sturdy genome that doesn't damage and mutate as often as ours, they wouldn't be likely to follow the same thought processes we do to actually come up with similar concepts, let alone develop nearly similar technologies... There are way too many possibilities to assume that what made us exist will be the same for other life forms and that they'll have a parallel development to ours.

@@shutup-gc2yk ooh you must’ve talking about tools like weapons and building stuff. Yeah they would probably be different in some ways. I thought you were talking about technologies in general like how sentient animals would want their lives to be easier and therefore make technologies to simulate that. But I do agree. Their technologies as far as tools go could vary much further than things such as propulsion, Virtual assistance and lighting/scenting systems. But as far as concepts I don’t think they would differ from what we would want/use.

Right, but advanced life that is able to navigate interstellar space is unlikely to be anywhere in our own solar system, or even our own galaxy really. There is quite a lot of space out there in the universe. The chances of another intelligent lifeform being *that close* to Earth is statistically minuscule.

I totally understand that intelligent life is sequestered to Earth in our solar system. Thousands of stars within thousands of lightyears from Earth within the Orion Arm of our galaxy is not out of the realm of possibilities for intelligent life. Since 1995 thousands of other nearby solar systems have been discovered. The variables in the Drake Equation has significantly changed during the past 30 years.

Considering the distance involved and the relatively short time that we may have been considered even marginally interesting to an advanced intragalactic or intergalactic planetary race, does anyone really believe that they would be likely to be visiting us any time soon? Additionally, the space warping/wormhole concept has been applied as a possibility so frequently that one MUST harken back to the Fermi paradox and ask where the heck they are.

We should not be playing with fire. If there is a ET race more advanced and an aggressive race we could be in for a terrible time. You never know what will become of our radio transmission and deep space probes. If there is a race 100 years more advanced in our technology hopefully they will be peaceful but you never know what is out there. Steven Hawking described it like when the Pilgrims first came to the Americas the native people were in total shock.
