why everyone are force to accepts Bretton Woods agreement. That sucks. and since when the Dollar is backed by Gold? it only backed by dept. Seriously John Green.
@michaelcurrier449211 жыл бұрын
snoiprocs16 H.J. Res. 192, approved by President Roosevelt on June 5, 1933, provided that obligations payable in gold or specific coin or currency are contrary to public policy, and that those obligations could be discharged dollar for dollar in legal tender. After that resolution was adopted, currency of the United States could not be converted into gold by United States citizens, but the Treasury would convert dollars into gold for foreign governments as a means of maintaining stability and confidence in the dollar. Because the dollar was no longer freely convertible, one could consider that the United States was no longer on the gold standard at that time. If, however, one considers the gold standard as a monetary system in which the unit of money is backed by gold even if the monetary unit cannot be converted into gold, one could argue that the United States went off of the gold standard on August 15, 1971 when President Nixon announced that the U.S. dollar would no longer be convertible into gold in the international markets. The President was able to suspend the ability to convert the dollar into gold because there was no legal requirement that the United States exchange gold for dollars. On December 18, 1971 the President devalued the dollar, and even though the devaluation was effective immediately, only Congress could officially change the gold value of the dollar. Early in 1972, Congress passed Public Law 92- 268, which gave formal approval to the December 1971 devaluation. I get the feeling this is what he was talking about. Try maybe googling it a little bit next time? It's really easy.

The first few decades after WW2 were the window of opportunity to establish a socialized healthcare system in the United States, just as it was for every other First World country (all of which did so). After that, the rapid expansion in medical services in turn led to the insurance lobby becoming too powerful, and FDR's ambitions were tragically never realized.

But more importantly i feel he just explained what america and our history is really about its not about how perfect or amazing we are as we have seen we dont have the best record but the ideals we have developed and what it represents to the US and the world and how we are continually striving for this ideals we have.

*shrug* Whatever you say, bub. It's a moot point anyway; the Winter War doesn't really have all that delicious trade and cultural exchange that gets Crash Course excited, and it was really one front of a much larger conflict anyway. More likely it would be a case study or an example than an episode of it's own. In any case, I feel that that language was entirely uncalled for, sir.

So, what I got from this is that the US grew exponentially because of government spending? If so, how come there's so much controversy surrounding government spending whenever it's proposed in the US today?
@codyarcher32639 жыл бұрын
because theres a diffrence between giving jobs and the military spending ludicrous amounts of money on common items and weapons that it is not able to use in a war on terror putting us in an unnecessary ammount of debt

No one ever talks about Romania :( Is it because we were pussies during the war?
@UserName00438 жыл бұрын
Because Romania is more or less irrelevant.

@callmeyourdai5y5186 жыл бұрын
they weren't that irrelevant just the same as a lot of places. I suppose the one difference is initial neutrality and then facist overthrow. But it was the same after that for anywhere under nazi control. Plus the us weren't involved in Romania
