Good catch! I missed that one. They did update the beach area floor. It is now installed in square tiles, this makes it more maintainable. They can fix sections at a time if needed... previously, it was one big long piece.

The last time I was at the World Waterpark they still had the lazy river. I spent most of my time in that ride and the yellow one next to it. It really sucks that they removed it as I really liked it. It also sucks how much they have raised the pricing. A few years ago it was only $29.95 per adult, now it is $44.10 for anyone over 48" tall and no family rate. My niece who is only 8 would be charged as an adult as she is tall for her age, which isn't right. With how busy it is most of the time $30 per adult and $20 per kid would actually be reasonable and would cost my family under $200. At the new rates which are just way to expensive, it would cost my family around $300 including locker rentals. Which brings up another point, $8 for a locker rental, are they insane. I can go to the Tri leisure in Spruce Grove and get a locker rental for $0.50 and it is only $10.50/adult and $4.75/kid and that is all-day access. I really wish I could take my nieces to the World Waterpark, but they have priced it to way more than I am willing to pay. It is fun to go to the viewing area and watch though and it does look a lot better with the rides and floor painted.

In the late 80s and 90s there was the most epic wide waterside. It was short and you could watch yourself fall off the end of the slide by the wall sized mirrors. There were 2 slides and the drop off was about 12 feet to the pool below. Best slide ever !!!!
@LakeNipissing5 жыл бұрын
There were actually three slides beside each other. It was called *Geronimo's Jump.* On the back side of the waterslide tower where the Caribbean Cruiser is today. The square splashdown pool was 10 feet deep, and has been covered over. It is seen at 0:41 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vOc4h8adp_iKs

@@LakeNipissing thank you for the updates and correct info. Those were the good ol days when everything was new. @LakeNipissing5 жыл бұрын
The thing I couldn't believe about that was little kids carrying those Thunderbolt sleds up from the end of the long splashdown pool, all the way up the stairs to the launch platform! Those yellow sleds were around 25 LBS, and longer than some of the kids carrying them were tall... how some kids didn't end up falling over backwards going up the stairs was a miracle... the 1980s were a different time for sure!

Having recently visited the first time in 11 years the park is beautiful but those new slide signs leave a lot of people confused as to what stairs go where and to which slide. The old ones having the image of the slide on the sign made it a no brainer what set of stairs went to which slide and actually made remember names of the slides easier when conversing about which slides you liked most that day

*_Things which I believe were better in the late 1980s than now:_* - *Thunderbolt* - the best slide they ever had at the WWP - the original Blue Bullet with its large flumes which had sections which were open and enclosed. - having all of the Blue Thunder wave machines operating, instead only of 4 out of 6 of them - Geromino's Jump (only other deepwater slide aside from Cannonball / Tropical Typhoon) - the original Sky Screamer with the open-view from the top - scary! - the raging river tube ride - the waterfall at the deep end of the wave pool - the change rooms were much larger - lockers were only 75 cents (although you did have to wear a key on wrist or ankle band) - the unobstructed view into the waterpark from the second floor of the mall . *_- Things which I believe are improvements today:_* - Cyclone looping slide - Slideboarding in place of a closed / abandoned / unsafe side of Howler - *adding the Slideboarding while keeping the safe side of Howler open* - Tropical Typhoon vs. original Cannonball - *Keeping the original 1986 slides such as Twister, Howler, Nessie's, Corkscrew* - FlowRider (but it could have been located somewhere else to not lose Thunderbolt) - although the lockers are *expensive* the system is super-efficient for re-entry with nothing to memorize, and no key to lose - Coca-Cola Freestyle machines are an excellent offering, and popular

I have to state what I don't like: *The new beach chairs!!* Bring back the old *_adjustable lounges_* which are being stored up on the mezzanine by the elevators!! If they have a way the lounge chairs can be used for people to sit on vs store peoples towels and bags that would be awesome.

What is the poster like? Just the Fantasyland logo, or photos of the rides? I have placemats from the 1980s with photos of the Mindbender, Drop of Doom, World Waterpark... many of these same photos would appear on postcards, fridge magnets, etc. I have not seen the poster, but I wonder if it is similar?
@LakeNipissing5 жыл бұрын
Using Windows Movie Maker (or anything else), a photo can be added and dragged to a video timeline, and just show up as a still for xx seconds. That video could be uploaded to KZbin, even 640 x 480 would work for the basic idea. I have done this many times to explain something to another KZbin member using a photo, and often just set the video to "unlisted" so it doesn't show up on the channel, since it is only relevant to specific viewers.
