When I worked for WEM when the Mall took it over I worked in the welding department. I hung off the bottom of the platform welding the modification expansion. Strange was there was people in the pool while we were working on it. They would yell at the people in the pool to move back. It was a different time.

It’s easy to close off any section - big or small. Check out the massive tarps the oakland coliseum uses to cover the outfield seating

HOW ENJOYABLE! my first job out of high school in 1990 was at W Ed Ph 1 Dairy Queen Food Court. LOVED IT. My cousin worked in Ph3 Levi 1850. It took us 20 minutes to find each other- cell phones were still not normally used. GOOD TIMES❤❤ I love that Dragon at the theater. I returned years LATER and they were dismantling it. That Mall has so many good memories. My kids love the Waterpark so much❤

I'm with you in preference, but I stopped watching football in the early 90's when I started learning about the inevitability of concussions in the sport. No CFL or NFL (or boxing etc). I'll go see Metallica or Beyonce or Garth Brooks, or maybe even a soccer game though.

The whole point is to appeal to children, why did they need to make it "modern"... It looks so commercialized now.

Great video! I love your work with preserving the history of attractions like this in Edmonton. I have a vague memory of going to see Ferngully as a young child with my family at I believe Encore 6. I remember there being a lineup for it -- I don't know why. Maybe it seemed like a long lineup as an inpatient child. It might have been during the holiday season, since my family and I usually went to WEM around that time of year and rarely at other times until I was older. I think I saw some other movie(s) at West Mall 8 over the years but I don't remember exactly. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I wish WEM still had this uniqueness. Now, it feels bland and partly run down (depending on the wing you're in). Sad.

This is really a sign that, even in the healthy CFL cities, the sport is really on a downward trend. They can't seem to land that 10th team somewhere in Canada. Attendance in most of the cities has been trending down since 2000, especially in Toronto, where Canada's biggest city largely ignores the sport and they often can't even sell out the small soccer stadium they play in. I think the rise of the NFL's popularity in Canada is killing the local version of the sport.

I was in the mall when the divers were pulling Brown out of the water. My brother worked at the submarine ride, and we stopped by to check his work schedule before going off for the holidays. It was chilling, and working there in the following weeks was difficult. The divers warned the submarine drivers that they would not be going in after them if they ran off the rails of the ride.

While a really cool idea, I only ended up going here once or twice. It was simply too expensive to ever consider. The whole thing is quite sad though, since pretty much everything in Phase 4 ended up closing. Now that the Lego store is open, that's something, but with places like this closing, Silver City restructuring and sterilizing, HMV and the place that totally wasn't HMV eventually closing... Phase 4 is a ghost town. It was such a place of excess that it seemed to just burn right out. Unless you were going to the now-bland theatre or to the parking lot, there was no reason to go there for years.

What's weird is that I distinctly remember the original version (pre ending tube), but never remember the second vortex area ever being open. I always wondered what that part was like, but never was allowed to go that way. You'd always get in and then immediately were moved down the path on the right side of those aerial shots. The route going straight from the entry and down the aerial left side was never open.

This is another one of those things I never heard about, despite growing up very near the city. My parents hated driving anywhere in Edmonton, so the furthest we would go into the city was maybe Westmount. We basically never crossed the river and never went to the southside. So weird that this operated almost my entire life, yet I never once heard about it.
@ScooterinAB12 күн бұрын
Living near Edmonton basically the entire time Heritage Mall operated, I can't say I ever heard of it. My parents were always super weird about driving anywhere in Edmonton east of Westmount (and even then), and I don't think I crossed the river until I was a teenager and started going to Whyte Ave. I just can't see any reason why my parents would have driven all that way when West Ed was so much closer and magnitudes larger.

I sat in the first row of the upper deck during the 2010 Grey Cup. That was an awesome viewpoint. I'm sure if they get the Grey Cup again, they will use the whole stadium, but for the regular season, they don't get enough fans. Probably a lot of work to clean up after each game, so they won't have to clean up the upper bowl.
