Sam wasn’t treated badly, or not seen in the family. Her problem was that she didn’t want to be a royal. Yet at the same time seemed to have an issue with her sister being the next queen and getting the attention, everything she claimed she didn’t want. She contradicted herself. I mean she says she doesn’t want the royal responsibility, that she just want’s to be herself, yet has an issue with her sister because she is and I quote, “perfect”. When she tried to relate to January, who said her brother was terrible and would be a bad king, I couldn’t take it seriously, because she even admitted to her sister being amazing, and kind, and that being her issue. Which btw make’s no sense.

Warning, pointless mega-rant below. One thing I see way too often when it comes to stories with monarchic dynasties is how they get the inheritances and roles of the consorts wrong. As far as I know, in most dynastic governments, if someone marries into a noble or royal family, they become a consort. Consorts are given privileges yes, but they have absolutely no claim to their partner's title. Because if so, then there's nothing stopping noble families from marrying into each other and just going on a murder spree to take titles left and right (The Habsburg dynasty of Austria did kinda do that, but it was mostly because their offsprings inherited the title, not the consorts). If the ruler dies with no direct descendant, the line of inheritance will trace the back the dynasty until there's an heir who fits the conditions. The closest to being in power they might become is being appointed the regent in case the heir is still underage. Either that, or they have enough people to support their rule and just take the title forcefully. Another thing is the second child being treated far worse and given far less opportunities than the firstborn. That's just idiotic. Because if the firstborn dies or otherwise becomes unfit to inherit, then they'll have to fall back on to the second child. And if that second child is shit at ruling, then they're kinda fucked.
