In this video, we'll explore some of the key factors contributing to this trend. There has been some backlash against Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel franchises in recent years, with fans expressing disappointment with certain movies or storylines. This has led to a decline in interest and enthusiasm for associated merchandise....

Who would have thought a Star Wars movie could come out at Christmas time, the best time of year for toy sales and Hasbro not even bother making a toy line for it because they didn't think it would sell well enough. In the UK Star Wars had no presence what so ever in toy stores when Rise of Palpatine came out.

The first time I watched Last Jedi, I was surprised that there was no attractive designed characters. All the Aliens, the droids, the human characters, none of them would make great toys. Everyone was white, black or grey, with no defining visuals ! Compare that with Jabba's Court for example. Only Holdo has a visual identity because of her colors. But since she's not a main nor likable character, she wouldn't sale.

So instead of keeping the character alive and recasting Black Panther, they killed all merchandising out of respect for Chadwick? That's some high level Disney/Marvel logic that I just don't understand.
@caryslan5890
@caryslan5890 Жыл бұрын
What I don't understand is why they just did not introduce a version of T'Challa from another world in the Multiverse? By this point, they had already established that three versions of Peter Parker existed in the MCU across three worlds in the Multiverse. They could have had this T'Challa come from a world where his Wakanda was destroyed by Kang(to tie it into the overarching plot of Phase 4 and 5) and most of his world's heroes were killed. He arrives in our Wakanda searching for aid only to find our T'Challa has passed away and he ends up getting involved in the conflict with Namor. Is it a perfect solution to Black Panther's future given Boseman's untimely death? No, but the Multiverse literally gave them an escape option and they end up going with the one option nobody wanted to see which was Shuri as the new Black Panther.

@@caryslan5890That's a good idea but that would have involved the writers coming up with something creative. It's actually kind of amazing to me that the MCU is leaning so hard into the multiverse without stopping to realize a big problem with Marvel's multiverse (in the films/shows and comics): there's nothing special about the universe you're seeing. The multiverse has always been much more of a DC thing and in their multiverse it's always been clear that the main DC universe (now called the Metaverse) is the universe all the others are based on. The Superman of Earth-23 is _a_ Superman but the Superman of Prime Earth is _the_ Superman. With the MCU all the heroes and villains (including Kang) from various universes are interchangeable so none of them matter more than any other.

The price tag definitely plays a part in all of this. If they could have made the $10 figures $5, they might have had a better chance. I remember asking my Mother why I recall having so many full toy sets from the 80s, and her response was simple, "We were making good money, and the toys were cheap." Bingo! People not only have less money to begin with these days, but when it comes to buying toys for children (and not simply collecting) you also have to factor in durability, which many of these toys are clearly lacking. Classic case of lowering quality for quantity, only to have that quantity sit on the store shelf and collect dust.

Was at a Target the other day. Star Wars toys and Black panther toys on shelves several packages thick in fact many of the toys and legos were pretty well stocked from franchises and movies several months old then at the end of the Isle I saw a section that was practically sold out. It was of course the Super Mario section. Imagine my shock.

As an additional side-tangent, it's so disheartening to see what toy aisles have become. I know perspective can change one's view a lot as one gets older, but when I took my nephew to the toy aisle of target recently, I just stood in awe at all the thousands products that I know in my heart will never sell and will almost guaranteed be thrown in a landfill. Even for the ones that do sell, I fear they'll meet the same fate that they do with most kid's toys: they'll maybe get played with for a few minutes and then the kid will get bored with it and it'll get thrown away later on. Again, I'm sure the problem existed in some form back then when I was young, but it's arguably gotten WAY worse.

Baine Capital tearing Toys R Us a new asshole REALLY did a number on the industry. Lack of toy sales is not the only problem Disney Lucasfilm is suffering from. Last year, I was at a local Walgreens and there was a display of bargain DVDs for sale, and in that collection of movies were The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story on sale for $8. I’ve never seen any of the six Star Wars movies George Lucas made on a bargain bin table, and I never will because George Lucas put out a quality product that people who enjoyed those films wanted to buy. Kathleen Kennedy and her minions have told us these movies with the Star Wars name on them weren’t made for us, and we’ve been happy to follow their advice. Disney as an entertainment company deserves to fail.

While Disney certainly deserves a lot of the blame, too many people fail to realize that corporations like Disney are beholden to both their shareholders and creditors, and that's the Root of All Evil(yes, I do love this Dream Theater song), pun fully intended. More people need to be aware of the ECG rating, what it is and why it exists and about its creator: Larry Fink of Black Rock. I mean, yes, Disney and a few other corporations(Bud Light, Gillette, etc) have taken the ECG nonsense further than most others which is why they all received massive(and fully justified) backlash, but these behaviors are the symptoms of the illness, not the illness itself which is the ECG rating.
