2004 Induction: Tom Kite, Presented by Ben Crenshaw

Well deserved award for a good man. I had a brief encounter with Tom at Greensboro one year where he went way out of his way to make amends for a faux pas by a golfer in his group. Tom was a super nice guy and a great ambassador for the tour. Here's a guy who went out day after day, year after year, and got the job done with class and integrity. He is truly a Hall of Fame golfer.

As a boy, he was my idol. I was a very gifted soccer played and All American Runner, but something about Tom Kite, made me want to emulate the kind of athlete I wanted to be. Someone with poise, grace, stoicism, and a yearning to go above and beyond the art of just practicing. I wish I had had the pleasure of meeting him.

Kite was remarkably consistent through over 25 years, he was the first ever man to win $9 million on Tour and had 12 Top-10 finishes at the Masters and 27 Top-10's in Majors. But I think his biggest accomplishment was being able to win wearing those gigantic coke bottles for glasses. Haha

He also has one of the better Ryder Cup records. It depends on the bar you set for HOF.
