I lived in Grafenwohr for 6 years and Flossenburg isn’t to far from there. We visited the place several times and I was shocked by the fact that people have built their homes where prisoner barracks once stood. In my view, that should be “hallowed” ground. Why would anyone want to live in a place where people were tortured and murdered. Admiral Canaris, Bonhoeffer and scores of POW’s from the United States and the Soviet Union were killed there.

I always wondered why there are so few colorized film of the concentration camps. The process brings the brutal reality to life compared to grading black and white.
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
In the beginning, it was expensive and not always predictable in results... It's always had some unpredictable results... As we became able to digitize everything, the algorithms used to colorize old B&W film have greatly improved, and the process has gotten cheaper and more prolific, but with the internet age, we've got a common troll-type who refuses to appreciate the effort or the resulting effect, preferring instead to dwell on the minutia of what could be found "wrong" and "incorrect" about the resulting images and videos... SO out of respect for the footage and the victims and other subjects involved, almost nobody has the shear force of will to continue pursuing and processing more of the WWII footage. It might well present a more lively and forceful theatrical release of the storylines and bear in more tragic detail to more and further generations the horror and evil that was perpetrated so long ago, BUT the blowback of accusations from behind a dubious justification of "Well, you put in all this much effort for a thing. I'd hope you could AT LEAST do it properly when there are museums full of Nazi uniforms, medals, tools, instruments, and weapons." When in fact, the trolls only exist to shit on everything... Perhaps, though... It might BE better judgment to leave the historical documentation "as is" out of the abundance of respect. At the least, it avoids anyone excusing themselves for shitting all over it later. Some people can't stop themselves being despicable. ;o)

@@WorldHistoryVideos Many thanks for replying! Yes, even without the apparently non existent photo, it would be interesting. Leaving school at age 12 without any qualifications to take up an apprenticeship (1:05) is a rather misleading and disparaging statement given that an apprenticeship as a fitter is actually continuing his education and to have completed an apprenticeship is a coveted qualification for any working class boy. Had he stayed in secondary school until the last year he would not have any qualification other than a certificate which would have qualified him for nothing, similar to completing high school even today.

@carlcushmanhybels8159 Жыл бұрын
Not sure about him, but Hitler and more Nazis admired Norway in a way, wishing Germany was more Nordic. The real blend of 'Aryan' race in their propoganda emphasized the Nordic side; when actually many Germans and Austrians, such as Hitler himself, etc, did not look Nordic. Hitler hoped Norway and Denmark would become 'Model 'Republics' in his 1000 Year Reich dream. While invading Denmark, Nazi planes dropped leaflets over Copenhagen claiming they were arriving to protect their Danish cousins from possible British Invasion. The Danes were not fooled. They did work the supposed 'cousiny' relationship when they could, tho. E.g., it was inside friends formerly with the Hamburg America shipping line who tipped off Danes that the Germans would round up the Jews on Roshhashanah. The Danish Resistance, including a family friend, Dr. Poul Kirketerp, spread the word and arrangements: Successfully all but 400 of the 10,000 Danish Jews were hidden and relayed up Jutland, etc, to be spirited by fishing boats to safety in Sweden.
@carlcushmanhybels8159 Жыл бұрын
Also, by the time Au... was posted to Norway, they knew Germany would soon lose the war. So he was likely pretending to be 'nice' / going light on Norwegians, in hopes that would spare him after the war.
