I would agree except for the final 150 yards. RS got around that horse. Sonny didn't move him, he looked and went, then he is looking at the leaders with a faceful of mud. Then ran by them. Sonny was keeping him him moving with the whip. Rich strike won that race on heart in the last 200'.

Blue blood horses will continue to be bred and sold to countries like China and Korea, where they will be abused, raced, bred, and eventually slaughtered. Horses are expensive and rescues are full and underfunded. Be careful what you wish for. You don't understand the consequences. More oversight is needed for the sport and thoroughbred slaughter needs to be banned, all horse slaughter should be banned actually. Abusers in racing need to get lifetime bans as well. He’s still a baby at 3 years of age and he’ll bond with who takes care of him. He seems to have that type of temperament ….like a big pet. Some race horses are just plain mean. I saw a man savaged by a race horse just walking past his stall. The horse lunged his head out of the stall and sunk his teeth into the man’s jacket…pulling him halfway into the stall. I’ll never forget his screams for help. I ran over as did a few others to help him. He was okay because his down jacket took the bite but he banged up his arm on the stall door. After that, the barn manager put up netting over that horses stall door. He was a former race horse and he had a bad temperament. John Henry was nasty…didn’t like people.. some are lovable and some are not.
@suzanneyoung80112 жыл бұрын
@@penelopelopez8296 believe me, Rich Strike is not a pet. He has a mean temperament and will bite anybody. That's why they keep the stud chain through his mouth attached to his halter. He bit the pony girl before the race and bit her pony twice. An outrider had to take over from her and lead him the rest of the way to the gate. After the race he bit that pony at least a couple of times, grabbed its right rein and wouldn't let go, and then bit the outrider badly on the leg and twice on the arm. He is inbred close up in his 2nd and 3rd generations to Smart Strike, who was a very aggressive stallion like the one you described. They had to put cones in front of his stall at Lane's End farm because he tried to bite everybody who walked by. They also had to muzzle him and sometimes needed two grooms to handle him. So, Rich Strike comes by his bad temperament naturally.

@@jen7662 Rick Gore has some good things to say about horsemanship, but in horseracing he misses the mark. Horseracing is not perfect, but for the most part they are trying to do the right thing for the horse. Rich Strike was not in pain. He put the pain on two people that day and on two horses with multiple bad bites. Rick over generalizes things in horseracing without looking at the real facts and statistics and says all people are crooks and animal abusers and only in it for the money, which is not true. The things he said in his video about Rich Strike's trainer, owner and jockey, without any real knowledge or proof, is nothing short of slander. I was appalled at what he said about them. His anger towards them was very troubling in my opinion. He missed the most important thing about that video, which was that Rich Strike was biting the pony and he had ahold of its right rein for much of the time which caused the pony to spin around and rear up because he couldn't get away from being yanked by Rich Strike. Even when people pointed out to Rick that he missed this in his review, he never acknowledged that or addressed it. If he really wanted to get to the bottom of what was going on with Rich Strike, he might have done some research to find out that he savaged two other horses, bit the pony girl before the race, and seriously injured the other outrider with three bad bites, plus the fact that this horse is mean and tries to bite everybody. If Rick was in that situation and had other horses, riders and many many other people's safety to worry about as the outrider did, he may well have been forced to hit a horse on his nose to get him to release the rein and to keep him from biting him and possibly others nearby on the track too.

I'm really delighted for Rich Strike's win, and congratulations to him and everyone involved in this spectacular event. It was beautiful to see. But I'm distressed in hearing "we trained him the old-fashioned way," see his tongue lolling out of a mouth with a thick chain in it, and then, I see he was whipped pretty damned hard during the race... I'm no horse person, and I'll watch again to see how other horses were treated, but please, look up Monty Roberts or someone like him and see if you can't get him to stop biting. (I'm guessing that's the reason for the chain; I saw the post-race footage of him nipping another horse; I imagine he does it to people, too.) Again, congratulations on an incredible win, a heartfelt win. I don't mean to throw rain on any parade, but am questioning the idea of "the old-fashioned way." I know you love the horse. Would love feedback on my queries.
@goforwand312 жыл бұрын
The biting and aggression is in inherited thing from his grand daddy, Smart Smike. He was a notoriously hard to handle horse and often passed his toughness and biting to his offspring. His tongue rolling out of his mouth is in a playful mode. He is not in distress. And he's got a chain on because he's a stallion and very aggressive without it. It's not a habit anyone will break him of, that's the sire line. As for the whips, they're soft tipped on the end and do not leave marks. They've been redesigned over the years to be kinder to the horse.
@naomiroyle96372 жыл бұрын
I have seen Monty Robert work a few horses in a clinic, but I really like Welsh trainer Steve Young (watch his work on YT for some darn simple looking techniques, but you know it took years to get that finesse) much better for a quite amazing guy who learned a lot from Buck Braniman (sp). The movie Buck (documentary) is quite telling about horse training. Buck was the double for Robert Redford in the movie The Horse Whisperer. Also was the inspiration for the movie and provided the horses. Horse racing is one thing, but to look for real pain and suffering look into the gaited horses. That really chills me. It is very tricky, I imagine, to want your horse as high as a kite so it will run like a cheetah. So they probably try not to discipline too strenuously. Bloodlines do have quite the influence. It is amazing to watch this horse run past everyone as if they were standing still. That was just mind-blowing. Must have been a crazy, fun (in retrospect) ride. Great weaving that jockey accomplished.

The horse is strong, but without that specific jockey, Rich Strike would be Dry Hole. The horse is rowdy and aggressive, Leon made him focus.

My horse looked back at me as he ran away while I sat on the ground. They see behind when they tip their head to the side.

I don't care what anyone says....from just before he went around the horse on the rail to right before the wire he was looking at those lead horses....especially the one in the lead. He was looking at them intently like he knew he was going to blow them away....which he did. Just before he over took them he looked forward and gave it hell. I have always thought they know what's going on and this was the greatest example ever. He was toying with them....then just blasted on by! One of the greatest sports moments of ALL time for me. Brings tears to my eyes. Way to go Richie!
