Aside from his endurance pedigree, the one thing that really sticks out about Rich Strike is his affinity for the Churchill Downs track. That Maiden Claiming $30 thousand win (by 16 lengths in a darn fast mile time) was astounding for a relatively young 2-year old. If I was the owner, after the Triple Crown races are finished, I'd be entering Rich Strike into any stakes or high $ allowance route races at Churchill. Rich Strike would be like a John Henry at that track. The jockey, Sonny Leon, rode an amazing race - stop/go's galore, and swerve in/out and saving distance along the rail -- masterful job.

Rubbed horses for 8 years. Watched all career starts of Rich Strike. The Derby run brought tears to my eyes. Masterful ride, masterful run. Horse & rider are both very bold. It almost, not quite, reminded me of the way John Henry used to run, and Leon reminds me a lot of Pat Day, who rode a couple of horses I rubbed. I hope Rich Strike "woke up" at the Derby, and I really look forward to following this colt.

Never saw the maiden race until now. But did go back to the DRF and noticed he won at Churchill by an insane 17. And, as I stated after the race, each race in his last six had gone farther and he got FASTER the farther he went. He should have been more like 30-1, not 80-1. What caused it, I think, is that he wasn't entered until Friday. As an A.E. it was known he didn't have the points to enter. So nobody even looked at him to analyze his improvement. Additionally, his rider is the LEADING rider at his track in Ohio. Big overlook produced a big overlay. It's really amazing that the chalk finished 2nd and the exacta odds were 2,000-1.

@peterbarry11942 жыл бұрын
In layman’s terms, the lead horses set a very fast pace, and by the end tired because of this, allowing closers to come from behind and beat them. This horse is dead on closer, and if you look at his past races, he’s almost always in last place from the start.
@alan26982 жыл бұрын
@@peterbarry1194 I appreciate your time. About what I was thinking. Be well!
@dustynathan64422 жыл бұрын
You saw it, but you still don't believe it? Yes the fast fractions helped. But in each of his last six races he has gone farther. In each has gone notably faster. His rider is the leader where he races, so he certainly isn't incompetent. This horse is markedly improving. Although he won't be favored to win the Preakness, he'll be facing a much smaller, softer field than in Louisville. His owner should buy a Triple Crown eligible, and use the horse as a rabbit in the Belmont to blow up the front end, and in my mind, Rich Strike would be 6-5 to win the third leg if he gets a fast pace in front. Good luck!

Sometimes it just comes down to the way a horse likes a certain race track. In all his prep races he was getting beat by several of the horses who were also in the derby. But, when you see how he won his maiden race, even though it was a cheap 30k claiming race. He still ran a decent time over the Churchill track. He obviously didn't like the grass. So I'm not sure why they ran a few synthetic derby preps. And they barely earned enough points to qualify because he placed 3rd and he only got to run because of a late scratch. It's just one of those crazy things that happens every once in a while in horse racing that everyone just goes what the fuck just happened. But hey. You never know. There have been several claiming horses that went from claiming races to grade 1 stakes champions. John Henry, Seebiscuit and lava man are the 3 i know off the top of my head.
@jeffreyisenberg8302 жыл бұрын
@@THERIDESHAREMINUTE One of my strongest handicapping strategies is how the horse ran at the track he is currently running. I took a look at Rich Creek for that reason but thought he was too cheap. Stupid me. Another mistake I made was not back wheeling Epicenter in the exacta as I played him to win, place, and show. I often back wheel my choice in a $2 exacta in large fields but did not do so in this race and it paid over 4K. As Don Meredith once said on a Monday night football game " If the if's and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas".

Interesting interview with the trainer today. Long story short, when he asked Sonny Leon to work with the horse at the beginning he told him "He won't win anything for a while, but stick with me and everyone will know your name." I'm trying very hard not to be paranoid, but it sounds like a game plan to me that includes deliberately losing some races knowing that horse could win 'em all to set up monstrous odds for the Derby. For pete's sake just think about it. The planets would all have to align and the dominoes fall perfectly for that horse to get in the Derby in the first place. If you rewatch some of his races, jockey didn't even give him a good ride. Okay, bring on the reply blasts.

Rich Strike is possibly the next Big Red if he can maintain his speed and distance. He was still accelerating as he passed the line.. he must have great endurance. Doubt he was being pushed to hard in early races. It’s not always about winning it’s testing the horses behavior and ability to keep pace. A good training is gauging many variables of the horse per race to determine stability of the horse, any injuries..etc He needs to be conditioned then let loose, to many race horses get injured from being not well tested and to young, bone structure is not solid enough, easy to have a life threatening injury; leg break.

As amazing as this win in the Derby was. I have a feeling Rich Strike is gonna be another one trick pony, like Mine That Bird. Winning no races, manages to get in the Derby and wins it(even in a very similar style to MTB). Just watch, he's not gonna win another single race. He'll place 2nd or 3rd at best in the Preakness and Belmont.

Useless TVG crashed could not bet the derby after 4pm eastern. Luckily I went to the track early to get the racing form and put a few throw away bets in one of which was $5 on the winner. I was planning on studying and betting the derby watch more youtube videos then make my real bets on TVG. TVG closing my account.

After checking I seen other races of this horse and there were many hell he even ran one with " Epicenter " And Epicenter won that race leaving this horse behind in the dirt I wasn't impress at all with any of his races , And then they put this horse in on the last day 30 seconds before the deadline and this Plug wins the greatest race in history , And then after race the horse is bitting the the other horse many times over , Begins to make one wonder what is really going on when seeing a real plug like this when a great race in was impossible by this horse to win any race without any help thats my own in my opinion and raises alot of questions I say it the way I seen it and cannot say it was the track we will find out , I personally seen it all and I ain't no dummy , Yes you all might say it was just pure luck me am waiting for the real results then I will call it pure Luck

Rich Strike has captivated a nation of horse racing fans. I was excited to see his history. So ive been all in on the horses and trainers vids. A warning my takeaway has soured. This video shows... Sunny Leone gave this horse 1 good ride. Fortunately for the horse on the biggest day of horse racing. My opinion... aside from one lucky ride, Sunny Leone is a miserably mediocre jock. Reeds notion in previous interviews of Leone having a great feel of pace and timing is laughable. The connections running this horse on the poly crap after his big maiden victory on dirt is baffling. After the derby, if they ever take him back off dirt, their racing licenses need revoked. Glad to see small time guys get the derby win. Love it being a longshot closer. The horse defied all the odds. Including his jockey and connections decisions.

This is why many people lose fortunes while betting. Did you see this horse’s past performances? Come on people? If this horse had such abilities would he have been at these odds? Either they were just joking and preparing for this one, or someone just fooled everyone.. this horse according to his races had a better opportunity to not run than to win, he wins like if he were Zandon or any other horse in this race. The rider? He doesn’t even know how to get to the racetrack without a guide. Get real please. I understand upset are upsets, this was not an upset, something smells very wrong. The way he ran he should win the triple crown easily.

The whole scenario looked a slim shady to me. How is it this horse even got to race in the derby amazes me. Everything to get this horse to run was within minutes almost. I don't how this horse won? Nothing to show on paper that it could compete with better horses. Then I think about the money that was involved on the derby alone. Haven't scene that kind of money in years. The horse racing business cleaned up and made a lot of money because I can't see any ody win the superfecta nor tri and very little won an extra. Maybe just a fluke.

@agro26122 жыл бұрын
Allison Rich Strike hated the turf. He was so bad that the trainer put him on turf again. His first race was on turf and never touched it again. After watching the race for the 50th time. What I thought was a fixed race was not. The jockey knew what that thoroughbred was all about and hand rid that horse perfectly. Sonny Leon reminded me a little of Calvin Borel .

Hey Casey, let me guess, you lost money on the Derby. The only way this horse wins is in a hot pace. None of his races were a hot pace, only the Derby. If the pace went 23 and change and then 47 and change we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Take the tin hat off Casey, Rich Strike won fair and square. Also, don’t be surprised if they don’t enter him in the Preakness and wait for the Belmont. Preakness is too short at a mile and 1/8. Enjoy the win!!!!
