Continuing their journey northward through England, David Miano and Mariza Lockhart finally reach the eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall, the Roman defensive fortification that was built in the early second century CE to protect Roman territory from the “wildlings” to the north of the wall. In this first part of a 2-part series on Hadrian’s famous barrier, you’ll get a closer look at the top spots on Hadrian's Wall, including the Arbeia Roman fort in South Shields, which served as a supply depot for the troops on the wall, Segedunum, the easternmost fort at Wallsend, and Cilurnum (now called Chesters Fort), where the Romans stationed their cavalry.

Great review! I just found your channel via the Scientists Against Myths channel. I live between Chesters and Vindolanda so it's nice to see an international audience appreciating some of the history (and miserable weather 😂) I get to walk amongst everyday. Also, may I commend you on your excellent pronunciation of our place names (and the Roman ones too, lol), it's not often that someone from as far away as the USA gets them all correct, Bravo! I'm looking forward to binge-watching the rest of your content once I get the kids to bed later, cheers! :) edit: I just watched the next video in the series... we all just hop the gate at Housesteads too ;) When I was a child you were actually allowed to walk on top of the wall for miles and miles, none of it was fenced off. It's only in the last 2 decades that there's been restricted access to preserve it. Most of the towns and villages in the region have buildings that are built from stolen Hadrian's Wall stone - I'm looking out my window at a church that's made from it as I type this - I don't think anyone will have any issues with you taking a few steps along it 😂 All the best.

I got to see Hadrian's Wall at a quaint town called Heddon-on-the-Wall. Had lunch at The Three Tuns pub. So nice!

You've been to such nice places. The accommodations are neat and the horses are welcoming too. I've gotta try visiting all the places you've recommended here. They all seem calming

Great video. You really nailed Arbeia - nowt flash but real efforts at interpreting it. What they do have in that little museum as you go in is genuinely interesting. Tyne and Wear Museums do an excellent job. The Etruscan artefacts at the Great North Museum don't take up much space but they're probably my favourite bit.

You can actually find sections of wall in these locations. The easternmost bit of the wall stands at Segedunum and there's also an excavated section immediately over the road. I hope you didn't miss that! There are also two short sections of wall just over the river from Chesters.

That hypocaust flooring doesn't look to code. Did they use earthquake resistors in there? Looks a bit tall and shaky.
