There might be some precedent for him speaking in a snotty way in official games. In the manual for _Kirby's Adventure,_ Kirby says, "So, you're up to your old tricks again, eh, Dedede?" "No, no, no! I won't listen to your tricks. What have you done with the Star Rod?" "What was Dedede thinking?" This was reflected in the original Japanese, too. In the GBA remake, these lines were removed from the manual.

+Caden Hammontre Actually, they didn't buy Puyo Puyo until much later (likely somewhere in 1998). Compile still had a contract that gave them use over it well into August 2002 before it officially became SEGA's property. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was made in 1993 as a localization similar to that of Tetris Attack, because apparently, the US gaming market at the time couldn't handle anime girls in their games. This is the same reason Kirby's Avalanche was made two years later in 1995. It was made as a localization for the Super Nintendo version of the game, because Sonic on the Super Nintendo just didn't make sense. In the end, we ended up with what is basically two different localizations based solely on which company worked on it.

Some history for those who don't know, Puyo Puyo was made by a company named Compile. They made the Puyo Puyo games up until Puyo Puyo Box, all games after that were made by Sonic Team. That's not all, Sega acquired the Puyo Puyo franchise in 1998, but allowed Compile to release two more Puyo games until Sonic Team started to develop them. So it's no surprise to see Puyo on SNES since it wasn't a Sega franchise until the Dreamcast era.

I love how instead of just being a reskin, they went the extra mile to detail the game, give Kirby the translated lines of Arle Nadja,(The main protagonist of the Puyo Puyo series)and then voice the names of every enemy with a different type of stylish flare to it for a snes game. They did all this for a reskin of a Sega Genesis game that would come out on their 16-bit console that didn’t even have the blast processing the genesis had. They went beyond for avalanche.
