In the age before the internet, I took the time to map this game out on graphing paper and had maps I kept in the cartridge's box. I sold it long, long ago to a game shop and I bet someone had fun going through the game using my meticulous notes and mapping.

Shining in the Darkness (Sega Genesis) - English USA 🇱🇷 Longplay HD 1991 0:00/4:37:41 Language: English March 29, 1991 The game opens in the Kingdom of Thornwood. The silent protagonist, Hiro, asks to join a search for the missing Princess Jessa. Hiro believes that finding the Princess will also lead him to his missing father, Mortred. Mephisto (localized as "Dark Sol" in English versions) shows up in the castle and claims if King Drake steps down he will return the Princess. Hiro in joined by his friends Pyra, Myst and Milo Brax, He also receives advice from the King's minister. Hiro must face four Trials of the Ancient - Strength, Wisdom, Courage and Truth - before he can find the Princess and his father. The Land of Shining in the Darkness Thornwood Labyrinth Castle Hiro is a young boy knight, the protagonist of the game Shining in the Darkness.

Sega gave this game's developer Climax the bare minimum to make this game to pad out the MD/Genesis's tiny RPG selection. Camelot enjoyed a much higher budget to develop Shining Force ecause Sega wanted to compete with Fire Emblem.

Had this as a kid. Liked it. Kind of. Having no maps was super hard. Everything looked the same. Then you'd get far and try to get out, only to get lost and then die losing all of the gold you grinded for.
