I absolutely loved this game. It was one of those I would set and watch my older brothers play and beat. Then I got good enough to do it myself. Amazing memories.

This video helped me actually finish this game finally today! I’ve been playing for like 10 days now (thanks to the corona virus quarantine, I had plenty of time). I could not handle it when it first came out, I was just 5 years old then , so I watched my older brother finish it and I was just fascinated! Now 25 year’s later i got back to the game, such nostalgia, I LOVE IT!!!

As a child, I also did not complete the game, because there was a bug with dwarf father and dwarf son. (In the place where it was necessary to cut down a tree for a raft)

@@AlexeyMedvedev55 OMG, I thought it was just me! I was going MAD thinking I must have missed something, because I've visited the father like 5 times and went around that crazy labyrinth about 10 times more and still the damn son won't shift out the way to let me climb the ladder and cut the tree. So annoying to come this far in the game only for it to have a bug! :-(

One of the very best RPG adventures ever. Motoaki Takenouchi made such a wonderful timeless music... The creators truly put their soul into that fantasy world. And 25 years later I still love it as I did then. Not many games even come close to how heartwarming this game is.

About the end of the story, the original Japanese version is same as the German version. After treasures sank in to the deep ground, Friday tries to find if some treasures are still left there but couldn't find even a coin, then she cries about they paid so much effort to reach here but they couldn't get even a coin. But suddenly Nigel start talking, "Nigel(Ryle in Japan): It's fine!", " Friday: Oh, you're upset because you couldn't get the treasure.", "Nigel: Hell no I'm not! This kinda thing happens sometime if you are treasure hunter! Darn it!" "Friday: My my my, then I will give you something much much better than a treasure (makes a heart sign)". I like the way how they deal with the situation and move on...like they try to find what is really important and care for each other. How nice it is...That's why the little sad emotional music was playing there and Friday was flying around like she was trying to find something.

I know people will say that Phantasy Star is Sega's answer to the Dragon Quest series but this game is honestly the closest any Mega Drive RPG comes to that kind of whimsical adventurous feel that DQ has. The music, the humour, the churches and enemies, it has that really classic RPG feel. Absolutely fantastic game :)

Somehow I beat this game when I was 8 years old. I tried again a few years ago and while I had so much fun playing again, I got to the last area very close to fighting King Nole, but I never obtained the boots I needed to access an area so I had to give up. If there ever was a game that should have had continuous sequels but didn't, it was Landstalker.

Still playing this today. My dad rented this game from a video store in Fitzsimons Army base in Colorado about 25 years ago. My siblings and I got stuck very early in the game. About 12 years ago, I downloaded a emulator on my pc and played it for a while until my pc broke. I managed to get a little further at the time, but my journey wasn't complete. So I purchased the nintendo switch about a month ago, but the overseas military base that I'm at (just like my dad, lol) only had limited games for sale. So I downloaded Sega Genesis Classics which included this game, and now I can finally finish it. I'm about halfway through it right now, but I know soon and very soon I'll finally unearth King Nole's treasure that has eluded me for so many years!

Oh yeah - in the german version, Nigel doesn't get the treasure in the end. The ground collapses and everything falls into a bottomless pit. First he's unhappy, but then he just shrugs and says 'that's how it goes sometimes, let's just find other treasure'.
@eternalphoenixlp9482
@eternalphoenixlp9482 4 жыл бұрын
well its basicly the same visually as here, just that the conversation indicates, that all the coins and jewels have droped into a pit. Which makes defintive alot more sense since the whole background turned black after killing the boss. Also the german version, fits the end better imho. All the work for nothing, but you have gotten a loyal friend and did not lose your adventurer spirit!

This game saw me through some really tough times during middle school and remains my all-time-favorite. I still play it from start to finish from time to time simply to keep my hands limber because that isometric view requires keen manual dexterity to truly master. There is one thing I still haven't figured out: why the tree warps seem like I've seen them in another game. I've spent thirty years racking my brain trying to figure it out.

I found an old comic in my attic from 1994 (micky mouse mag) and this game was recommended there. Watching this is somehow nostalgic. as a kid i played plenty of gameboy and SNES games but never owned a mega drive. having grown up with these i feel like this games graphics and gameplay seems pretty nice. but i guess todays kids will never let this pass. i mean if you look at all the indie early access games on steam with similar graphics and gameplay they are mostly negative reviewed and if its not directly trashes the ppl demand updates and more content daily. but this game here was made, completed and shipped around the worls and nobody cried for updates. good old times where games could only be released when finished.

@duckwantbreads
@duckwantbreads 5 жыл бұрын
I think the blue ribbon is just foreshadowing that the princess is being held prisoner in the tower, she throws it in the hope that someone will find it and realise she's been kidnapped. The spellbook in the Japanese version is apparently an adult magazine (the variety shop in the Japanese version was an adult shop) so it was probably just a joke item that ended up being censored.

I just beat this game today on my Genesis Mini. I've owned this game on several other compilations before, but I never actually played it. Wow. Just wow. Very few 16 bit games immerse me like this one did. Its officially one of my fav 16 bit games now. This walkthrough was also invaluable for the few times I was stuck - typically because I missed something totally obvious. Now, It's not perfect, the perspective often does it no favors, especially for the platforming, and several sections made me want to break things in my pure rage. Like that section where you have to press the switch to get the statues moving, and then run into the alcoves to act as a bridge for the statues to walk across. I thought I was going to lose my mind and I actually rage quit at that section once. I honestly am not sure I would have had the patience for this game if I hadn't played it on the mini with save scumming a plenty. The fact that so many jumping segments knock you all the way back to the beginning of a long chain of rooms is infuriating, and I noped out of that quick. All that being said, the platforming isn't really too bad, and it typically does not outright kill your or anything for failure, you just have to try again. And sometimes again, and again, and again, which is where the frustration comes into play. Overall I give it a solid 8/10. It was basically the Genesis' answer to Link to the Past (Crusader of Centy is closer but few people it seems played that game) and I think it holds up well against Nintendo's game.
@RobbWes
@RobbWes Жыл бұрын
Landstalker and crusader of centy both released on switch online at the same time. That statue segment in the final area is still infuriating even with the switch rewind feature in the genesis app. Kept getting stuck in those alcoves. Probably took me about 300 tries. Have played centy yet.

The jumps weren't as bad as I remembered when I replayed it, the general rule of thumb to draw a straight line along the bottom edge of the first platform to the bottom edge of the next, if you can't then odds are you aren't meant to jump that way.

@@ivanorozco9673 Because You are younger! I had the first Sega Mega Drive with Altered Beast inside 🤣...but i played Sword of Vermillion for 6 months to end it (very very hard and tough!). The game wasn't translated into Italian but...i learned english better from the game than from school 🤣 bye bye

@@Bloodreign1 This game was more "arcade", i never liked its combat system and, my opinion of course, Vermilion had a greater main story

My favourite game of all time 😍 And what’s with this talk about difficult controls? I agree that a shadow would have improved playability but other than that, just use the diagonal arrows on the D-pad instead of the usual up/down/left/right.

For the lifestock in Verla Mine : Yes I talked about it right after release.. you can find it some comments down bellow under the name Mammouth Lafouinne, to make it short I was somewhat 'tired' when I played that part and then saved. I didn't call it back after that until I watched the replay... that's unfortunate :( About the dahl : WOW I didn't know about it ... now I must check it back !

I've just finished this game, it was hard to complete and very long compared to other games of its period. I'm impressed by its dungeons, puzzles, nice story, the view doesn't help in jumping. As characters and puzzles is clearly superior to my beloved Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor, as combat system and graphic of course not. Thanks a lot for your guide!
