In this video I take a look at a submission from an APA 8 who is looking to break over that hump. I give some advice on fundamentals and position play.
Don't forget to like and subscribe to help me grow my channel. Also, leave some feedback of Dirk's play below in the comment section.
If you would like to submit your video whether it be for coaching, or just to show off a shot or run you made, you can do so at: www.worldofpoolandbilliards.c...

His pre-shot routine is not consistent, meaning he doesn't spend the same amount of time on each shot. On "easy" shots he spends less time preparing and executing, and on "hard" shots he spends more time. Regardless of the difficulty of the shot, try to spend near that same amount of time on each shot: 1. Determine the route you'll make the cue ball go for the next ball. 2. Line up the cue ball to the object ball for the shot, while standing 3. Finalize your aim while down on the cue ball 4. Take 3 - 4 practice strokes on each shot 5. Execute However long it takes to execute all of that, try to repeat the time or be near it on each shot.

Lil' Chris Thank you for the help! 20 minute practice sessions (4-5 per day) of 100% focus until it is a habit. A week or so should do it! I love the info on your channel!

I am guilty of not practicing as well as I play due to getting lazy and not taking my time. (it affects my confidence quite a bit and I second guess shots) Very good points made.

I just found your channel and I see you haven’t uploaded in a couple months. Is this a dead channel now? I hope not. I really enjoy what I’ve seen. You’re helping me to get motivated to start playing again. I went through a rough patch for a few years and ended up pawning my cue. I miss it. I’m thinking about getting a new Predator. Anyway, I hope everything is alright with you, and I hope you come back soon. Take care.

World of Pool and Billiards Oh, I gotcha. I’m glad to know you’re alright, and I look forward to seeing you back. Until then, I have a back catalogue of pool vids to go through. I’ve already picked up some good tips. Thank you again.

Neat format with you reviewing other folks submissions. I'm sure the audio had copyright music, so I understand why it's so quiet. That being said, watching billiards without audio is so weird!

I'm a very average pool player; you know the kind that only plays at the bar from time to time. However, giving feedback is a different issue. This analysis is 37 minutes long, too long! Just my opinion; I think all of these types of reviews should be limited to about 10 minutes at the most and trying to point out where his skill is high. As a general rule trying to keep your ratio of positive comments like 2 or 3 to 1 corrective comment. I had seen one of your videos and I can't remember which one but I felt you were very passionate about the game and had an easy way of describing the game in general. I really enjoyed it. So I went looking for you the next time. l think if you kept that type of happy passionate attitude and positive feedback balanced during these critiques you would see more subscribers and enjoy it more yourself. You have a very pleasant voice and demeanor so take advantage of it. Later Jack

Thanks for the feedback. I agree I need to stay a bit more upbeat, but this is honestly how I talk in real life haha. I'll work on editing future versions down. Its not just you that thinks they are too long, my analytics tell me the same thing.

at 27:30 it's hard to tell if the 9-ball was the main factor or if he just lost focus at the last second because of the guy walking up on the table. 33:17. What is the difference between that stroke and every other open bridge stroke in the video? Is it keeping the tip too light? Grip? Or is it like you said where it's the body trying to correct itself?

Cory Siler I worked on this today and found on open rail bridges I was lifting up so I could hit more of the ball (back hand slightly elevated) without creating cue ball skid at impact. After today’s practice I found it (the small amount of skid) had almost no effect on my accuracy. My brain needs retraining to accept this. The sideways last second swerves was caused by not checking the alignment after landing my bridge. The alignment would be off and I would take the shot anyway, but my subconscious knew it was off and would adjust the stroke. Like hitting a golf shot and leaning as you watch the ball flight to steer it.

Cory Siler By the way the nine ball was in my head also. As my stroke gets straighter using english (I think I used one tip of right on that shot) I will trust that the ball is not in the way. Watch my back hand. Too much grip pressure with my index finger started the upward move.

Apa 8... I thought it was 2-7. Did they change the handicap numbers?

2 to 7 is for 8 ball. The 9 ball ratings go up to 9.

@@WorldofPoolandBilliards Okay, cool. I play bca and vnea. I played half a season of 8 ball apa. Couldn't keep my team bellow the handicap numbers so we quit. Anyways... thanks for the info.

Rather surprised he used this video to submit. When I heard APA 8, I was not expecting to hear "work on your fundamentals" for 30 minutes. That said, I'm sure it identified areas to develop in his game. I'd like to see submitters NOT tell you their rankings, and have you estimate based on what you see.
