Thanks this worked, your additional detail and the high success rate of the commentors gave me the confidence to keep trying. I was also able to confirm my charging cable worked with a volt meter so I was able to rule that out. It should read 5vdc... I had to try at least a dozen times and followed all the recommendations. As soon as I saw the boot up logo, I let is sit for a few minutes and was able to communicate with it from my phone even though it said the battery was only 1% charged. Good luck everyone.

The first time my fitbit went dead, these steps helped. It was good for several months. Now it's died again and nothing seems to be helping. This tracker is aesthetically pleasing, but I wish I had purchased a different one. Thank you for this video. Update: It did just turn on. It says the battery is at 84%. Why would it have been so unresponsive? Thank you again.

I HAD TO HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON FOR THOSE CLICKS! I had a black screen and kept trying but it was not working. When you said 'it vibrates each time' - I wasn't getting any vibration when I clicked. When I tried 3 consecutive long presses, each with a vibration, finally success!!! 🎉

I happened to notice my battery was low at 4 a.m., decided to wait until morning to charge it, only to have a black screen. I tried charging for a while … no response … tried your suggestion of the button on the charger (didn't even know that was there!) several times … no response. Tried cleaning the contacts. Nothing. Tried to leave it on the charger awhile longer … nothing. It felt like it was mocking me by this point. Per your gentle reminder to be patient, I tried pushing the reset one more round and … FINALLY! The welcome buzz of response! And when the battery indicator came up, it said it was at 100%. WTF. No matter, it's working now. Thank you for giving such clear calm instructions and helping me to keep my panic down. And for pointing out the reset button on the charger that I didn't even know existed. Whew!!

My Fitbit died and was not holding charge. It would die multiple times after charging to 100% within a couple hours. The reset on the cord and the reset device in settings did not work. Go to settings, then device info, and then select clear user data and then charge completely. This is what fixed my Fitbit charge 5.

Thank you! When I first ran into this problem (blank screen), I thought maybe the Fitbit charge 5 power was dead. But, I'd been charging it, so that didn't make sense. I went to the app and syched the device, and that showed that the battery was fully charged, but the screen wasn't responding to touch. :( I found this reset solution in on a Fitbit community board first, and tried it several times without luck. Watching you walk through the steps really helped me get the right technique... cleaning it and then pushing the button 3x to reset it. Worked like a charm! Saved me about $130 - $150. My Fitbit needed to be reset and I couldn't get it to acknowledge that it was connected to the charging cable. I even tried pushing the button to get it to reset. The biggest tip from this video that was the game changer was to wait a little bit (be patient). After the hard reset, I waited, and it worked. Thanks for the tips!

@@manuellabor2759 Nothing worked for me, either, until I played around with the connection between the USB charging cable and the actual charger. You might like to give that a go. Just wiggle it around a bit until your device vibrates. Once it does that, if it doesn't turn on straight away, then press the button on the charging cable 3 times as mentioned in the video. It turned back on! Thank you! My Fitbit was at 16% when I went to bed and when I woke up, it was dead, I left it on charger all day and came home to still a not working Fitbit, but did the reset and now it’s on, and charging with only 1% battery life. But yay, it works!

This worked for me! It probably took five times and then it finally came on! I’d at least give it many tries before buying a new one. Also, like many I had never noticed that button and also when it came back on it was at 99%. Thank you for posting this video.

It was using the alcohol! Just on the device. I’ve been sweating a lot. Never thought to use alcohol to clean the contact points on the actual Fitbit device. Worked!!

Settings, device info, clear user data and then charge device completely. You will have to reconnect/repair with Fitbit app. This worked for mine.

Mine ended up being the usb outlet. My outlet failed in the house. Tried the cleaning procedures and then again on a different charger and bingo. Thank you friend. You’ve been a lifesaver.

Fantastic it worked. I connected my usb to my laptop and clicked the button 3 times. It didn't start straight away so I shook the connector around abit and like magic it started charging.

Thank you for making the video mycharge 5 is about 13 months old and won't do anything I've tried all those steps. It has sat on the charger for approximately three hours now.. since it is not a replaceable battery I wish there was a way to determine if the charging cable was putting out juice before I buy another one and waste my money. Or a way to put current to the to contact points on the back of the watch to see if it vibrates..

After trying this, I see the Fitbit logo for a few seconds, but it's very faint and then the screen goes back to black. It still vibrates. Just doesn't display. Thanks for a useful video nonetheless. Easy to follow and clearly demonstrated.

Patients is the key. I reset it 5 different times and it finally came back on. I tried 3 different adapters, cleaned the surfaces with alcohol and the charging icon came back on but it still wasn't working. I had to reset it again and it finally started working. 4:12

dito. Logo turns on briefly and it then goes black again. Sometimes a red circle with an "X" inside appears after leaving it on the charger for some minutes. I suspect the battery may be through and not accepting charge properly. Had this exact issue some weeks ago and it eventually came back after leaving it on the charger overnight, but once the battery ran all the way down this issue cropped up again. Very annoying.

After cleaning, it briefly flashed the diamond blue logo. But the cable’s reset button doesn’t cause a vibrate, and the screen remained black. The green led on its back does flash, so the battery is not totally dead.

I found solution: 1. Make sure your Bluetooth is on 2. In the app on your phone just simply change a clock and intall to sent it to the watch. 3. All done :) just wait untill it's load and make sure it's charged. Somehow update wipe out clock face completely. And you ended up having a blank screen then don't do anything.

Mine was completely dead for a couple of months charged it but didn’t realize that it wasn’t plugged in good. It turned on with very low brightness like hard to see with the lights on. Cleaned the contact points with rubbing alcohol. Once I saw the poorly lit screen I connected it back on the charger and it slowly started lighting up again.

I think a lot of us have to accept that this is a non replaceable battery with so many charging Cycles and it is from China. A lot of the new smartphones have non replaceable batteries for that same reason. Phone expires you have to buy a new one

Me too! When I put it on the charger it boots up, displays 1% battery, and shows that it’s charging. As long as it’s on the charger I can sync it with the phone app. After some time both the Fitbit and the app display a partial charge (i.e. 16%). When removing it from the charger the screen does not work. When putting it back on the charger it boots up and displays 1% battery again.

Mine keeps cycling through battery percentage, fitbit logo and then blank. After charging in a different outlet for several hours it died on the way home from work (20 minutes drive). I tried the 3 presses on the outlet at work and at home. Nothing had made a difference so far
