Targaryen, Velaryon, Celtigar, Qoherys, Rhogare. The most notable Valyrian noble houses we know of, with another one who rules in Pentos I believe (or one of the other Free Cities) and runs a bit of a mini-succesor state to the legacy of the Freehold. (They weren't Dragonlords but still, of some Nobility evidently left in charge of the Freehold's various city-colonies. As for the 4 Houses in Westeros; A shame the line of House Qoherys ended the way it did. Overall, the last guy was a jerk and probably deserved what he got, but the father of one of the daughters he took on "The First Night" doomed not only House Qoherys but also everyone else in Harrenhall when they were all slaughtered by one of House Hoare's kinfolk. (Always wondered why none of his likely many bastards ever asked the Targaryens to legitimize them. Sure their dad was an @$$ but at the very least they'd be a candidate to rule his castle and benefit in some way. That, and the Targaryens would have a Valyrian House in the most OP Castle in the Realm. Just saying, a shame it ended that way for everyone involved.) As for the Celtigars; House Celtigar as another Valyrian house should've gotten more strength and alliance with House Targaryen and Velaryon. I always felt that, from any of the Targaryens who truly cared about their history, they'd have had more contact with the Targaryens and arrange more marriages. Adds another source of Valyrian blood to have when the typical sibling thing doesn't work out. I've always thought it would've been cool if Rhaenyra was wed to a son of House Celtigar, to "reinvigorate the dormant blood of the dragon within House Celtigar" or something. But that's just me, I guess.

House Celtigar descends from wealthy Valyrian merchants who got their lands by dominating trade in the Blackwater….that would be like suggesting that a Targ heir wed any random Lyseni with silver hair and purple eyes. (And that would be diluting the blood even less than a Celtigar marriage, considering they’ve married loads of Andals and First Men, as opposed to the descendants of other Valyrian colonists like the Lyseni tend to do)

And all of that is even assuming blood purity is a thing rather than Targ/Valyrian cope…the largest generation of Targ dragon riders came from Targ + Strong and Hightower, neither of whom are Valyrian houses, and Nettles taming Sheepstealer with no known Valyrian ancestry

@@themediocremaster2388the Celtigars are exactly the same of the Velaryons who also were merchants and not dragon lords. Yet the Targaryens intermarried with them for generations so why not Celtigar as well. And the Targaryens did often go oversees just to find silver haired & Purple eyed brides for some of their princes…. 😅

I wish we knew more about the Celtigars and the Qoherys. It seems like the Celtigars were beneath the Targaryens in terms of their noblity back in Valyria since there are zero marriages between them and the Targaryens and its implied that they didn’t even possess the Valyrian features

Well, they probably DID have Valyrian features at one point but... not many others to have kids with so, the Incest can only take them so far

@@thalmoragent9344 if for some reason, despite them being part of the Targaryen’s little Valyrian triumphant, they were excluded from any marriages with the Targaryen, which makes no sense. Velaryon Celtigar Qoherys (until they went extinct) and Baratheon were the Targaryens biggest supporters to the point where if Royal marriage is needed to be made, those houses would be like the immediate default or at least they get first pick.

Something just occurred to me if House Targaryen weren't the only dragonlords to survive the Doom how different would geopolitics in the Narrow sea look? Would dragons survive in greater numbers? Would rival dragonlords establish kingdoms in Essos? Would Volantis be a superpower that could challenge the Iron Throne? Would the other Free Cities become more prominent?

I like to think the reason why so many Valyrian families migrated to the Crownlands and took control of the islands in the mouth of Blackwater Bay was because Westeros was going to be the Freehold's next target for conquest. Perhaps one of the reasons Aenar Targaryen moved his family to Dragonstone was because he won or bought the commission from the other Dragonlords to conquer Westeros. However the Doom of Valyria scuppered what plans Aenar had for invading the mainland as the Targaryens were then cut off from reinforcements. Hence it took more than a century later for the Targaryens to build up their strength, before Aegon I felt confident enough to conquer Westeros with three large dragons.

But why did they go to Braavos? They should have went to places like Tyrosh or Lys where a majority of the populace possess Valyrian features and thus Viserys and Dany could've hid in plain sight. Not that it would have mattered since Jon Arryn and Robert had zero intentions of harming either of them and Varys needed them for his own plans

@@thalmoragent9344 he wanted them dead, even though they’re his only real means of garnering any real support for Aegon especially when the entire continent believes that Aegon was killed in the Sack. In his corner, the only people vouching for him are the least trustworthy people. A Lyseni eunuch, a Pentosi cheesemonger and a disgraced knight who had the hots for Rhaegar. Like Salahdor Saan said in the show “what is the world coming to when smugglers must vouch for the honor of kings?” On top of that, he’s entire survival is extremely dubious. why only save him and not his sister as well wasn’t that difficult to find a three-year-old girl that marginally looks Dornish enough to pass as the Crown Prince’s daughter? Why keep his survival a secret from his entire maternal side of the familyright up until recently? On top of that from Tyrion’s perspective, Aegon looks to be around 15 when canonically, the real Aegon would be closer to 18 going on 19. I know it’s not impossible for an 18-year-old to still look like a 15-year-old but let’s be real, how many people are blessed with that level of youthful appearance and aren’t using blood magic?

I had a thought when I was reading up on what happened to House Velayron during Roberts Rebellion. Is it note more than a coincidence that it took human sacrifice (Miri Maz-Dur) and the death of Drogo and Viserys (as well as Rhego) to give birth to dragons. But you can make a claim, that many died during the storm when Daenarys was born, including possibly Master of Ships Lucerys Velaryon. So when she came into the world, three also died, Rhaegar, Aerys II and Rhaella. Is this just a coincidence or is there something more to it?
