I think "last dragon" should probably be interpreted as "last hatched", rather than last death. As stated in the video, there are probably 4 dragons who outlived "the last dragon".

GRRM wrote in "A World of Ice and Fire" that it was the "last Targaryen dragon" that died small. As with the history of Old Valyria, dragons bound to other families were not considered "Targaryen dragons" and thus dragons like SheepStealer and Cannibal not bound to the royal family, are not actually Targaryen Dragons.

I’m also quite interested to know if any further small dragons were born in the interim between Morning and the misshapen Green dragon. The dragon born to Alyn’s daughter was supposedly maggot white and blind. Also if memory serves, there were a few small dragon skulls in the room Arya finds herself in. I quite like the idea of a small period of Aegon III’s reign where a couple of small withered dragons were born. It would certainly be a creepy occurrence to have a period of time where overgrown lizards prowled the red keep

It's certainly possible one point of interest is that the Cannibal so named for his penchant for devouring other dragons would seem to imply that Dragonstone had a sizeable population of hatchlings and eggs for them to be a significant part of his diet Another thing to consider is that the only dragons that the histories name are those who bond to riders we are not told of the exact number of dragons that hatched prior to the Dance of Dragons

Morning sorta being a wild card here is interesting. It's young enough that if it wasn't killed outright and was simply "lost" somehow that it could play a role in the main series, perhaps as a wild dragon discovered and claimed by Young Griff. A fully grown dragon hiding anywhere but Old Valyria is unlikely, but "Aegon" gaining legitimacy as a Targaryen by managing to claim it due to his probable Blackfyre ancestry could be neat. And a fully grown dragon could present him as a realistic rival to Daenerys with her 3 medium sized ones. Oh who am I kidding, the books aren't getting finished anyway.

House Targaryen is just so freaking fascinating. From a 100+ year old Dynasty that conquered 7 kingdoms forming them as one through the strength of dozens of Dragons, to becoming a shell of their former selves. I’m fascinated by the era after the Dance where the Targaryens had no more dragons. How did the common folk view them? Their power was clearly much more deteriorated than before.

Bit of a crack theory but I think dragon "natural lifespan" using Balerion is a stretch considering the damage he took on his flight that brought him in contact with the fire wyrms and who knows what else. The Black Dread was never really the same after that, so it's possible, without that fateful excursion, Balerion could have lived even longer. Which brings me to my theory: Cannibal not only was the last dragon, but they might still be alive in the present day in the Song of Ice and Fire or their offspring at least. Specifically, on Skagos - an area remote enough that not much gets out but rumors have it of being full of strange entities like unicorns...and cannibals. Considering people are already having theories about the unicorns being big departures, what if the cannibals are also against common knowledge and not people who eat other people but Cannibals as in people who venerate *the* Cannibal? Similar to the tribes among the mountain clans venerating the "fire witch" and her dragon, the Skagosi could have had a similar relationship with this ancient beast flying off to solitude, evolving the custom and maintaining it if Cannibal did eventually die.

But how would the Skagosi know that specific dragon was called Cannibal? That was a name given to him by Westerosis who knew he was known to kill and eat other dragons. Without other living dragons (or Westerosi) present (and Skagos supposedly has little contact with the rest of Westeros), the Skagosi would have no way of knowing this dragon was a cannibal in order to call themselves that even if they did worship him.

@@mustlovebooknerd in the books during corlys burial when cannibal was last seen he was flying in the direction of skargos and in the GoT timeline a cannibal tribe worships a entity that breaths fire so it's very likely cannibal did end up on skargos after the dance which caused the primitive tribe there to worship him.

It would be very interesting if all the "unaccounted" for dragons left Westeros by instinct and all went to a specific location, to either start a dragon pack or even join previously thought extinct wild dragons. We all assume that Drogon flew to Valyria at the end of GoT, but what if he went even further east than that. There is so much of the world which is unknown to us, let alone the people of Westeros, the perspectives of whome we are told this story.

Theory: Maybe the key to hatch dragons was always in the targaryen motto(Fire and Blood). First someone needs fire because dragons are fire made flesh and then he needs a blood sacrifice because blood magic was the key for the valyrians to tame dragons in the first place. I suspect that the targaryens who first came to dragonstone before the Doom knew that the old knowledge and dragon lore from Valyria would eventually being forgotten so they decided to combine their family motto with the basic ingredients one needs in order to hatch a dragon egg that couldnt being hatched naturally. Remember what Laena Velaryon said that many of the dragon eggs never do hatch and this was decades before their eventual extinction. I suspect that after the dance with the death of all the adult members of the royal familly, the destruction of the dragon pit and the death of the dragonkeepers, the last remnants of the valyrian knowledge was lost. There is also a chance that a key to hatch a dragon egg was already forgotten even before Aegon's Conquest for unknown reasons(keep in mind that we know nearly nothing about the Targaryens before they became Kings of Westeros.

Yes we know he ate other dragons and their eggs so it seems to imply the Targaryens had other Dragons over the years that haven't been specifically mentioned or given names yet, just like the 4 other dragons other than Balerion that were brought over by Aenar pre Doom of Valyria.

These mystery dragons are alluded to quite a lot. Maegor was teased about not claiming a dragon, yet what dragon was available for him to claim? Balerion, Vhagar, Quicksilver and Dreamfyre had riders. There must have been other unnamed dragons hanging around. Jaehaerys told a story about how 10 dragons flew to the wall to defend the realm against wildlings. Who were the ten in his story. Vermithor, Silverwing, Dreamfyre, Meleys, Caraxes, Vhagar, Balerion… that’s only 7. Seasmoke and Syrax were yet to be born and Quicksilver was dead.
@GianniCumbo

@@joshuaadams6565 That's right! Maybe Sheepstealer comes into the picture but still that would leave 2 remaining. I am also reminded of little Daenerys (Jaehaerys firstborn daughter) when she was sick and Jae called for a Dragon (Or was it an egg?) for her which made me think of the same question; which Dragon? All are accounted for no? Maybe we will get a full account of all Targ Dragons but it seems to me they certainly existed. Maybe some that were too young when they lost their lives to the Cannibal and were never even really accounted for or given names, who knows! Evidently Maegor thought that the Dragons available to him were mere hatchlings or otherwise too young/small and hence unworthy of him. He had his eyes on Balerion...

As the Kings of Winter in their tombs patiently await the Horn of Winter to awake them against the Army of the Dead. If George has lost his mojo, then he needs to find a really good co-writer and happily share credit for a story finished and well-told. It' s become ridiculous.

Food for thought; Balerion on paper died of natural causes, but don't forget he was never the same after his wounds when he traveled back to Valyria. We know little of dragon anatomy and how it may have affected him. There's also dragons from Valyria before the conquest that got even bigger than him. Sheepstealer I think left for Essos. If he made a habit of eating dragons, and then all the dragons in westeros dissappeared, he probably went to find more. Also, he may very well be older. His size was smaller than Vhagar, yes, but we also know Targ dragons were "bred for war". Maybe wild dragons tend to be a bit smaller since they don't have people feeding them constantly.

@wagnerpereira9826 specifically I believe the exact wording is "the biggest since the fall of old Valyria" which implies that they could get bigger. Look into it! Scary to think they got even bigger. @@zachpayton1079 the books also say that in old valria some dragons got so big that there wings/legs would start to get damaged whenever they would land which would eventually cause there deaths due to repeated damage or the wings/legs breaking from there sheer weight and impact on the ground they made when landing, this never happened to any targ dragons and that includes vhagar and balerion who never were stated to injure themselves when landing, the books also mentioned another species of dragons called ice dragons which live in the shimmering sea north of the wall and get alot bigger and older then any fire dragon.

Pretty confident that after the dance, the surviving dragons in Westeros fled it at some point. I would like to believe this is what happened with Nettles and Sheepstealer. Since they were not welcome and chased around in Westeros, after they encountered soldiers in the mountains of the Vale, and fleeing further up the mountains and becoming a Witch, after Nettles passed away, Sheepstealer probably lost his food source, since people were bringing the sacrifices to the WITCH and her dragon, not to the dragon directly. So it could easily be that Sheepstealer just left Westeros altogether. The Cannibal probably left after he was done with all that sh*t going down, he just bailed the continent. But I don't know about Silverwing and Morning. They seem very much bonded to the land, I don't think either of them would have left, which leads me to believe they died in one way or another. Silverwing was obviously traumatized, since she went from the gentlest to a skittish dragon that tried to avoid all contact, she probably just withered like a person suffering from depression over the years. While Morning? Yeah, I do believe it was a plot of the Maesters that lead to her demise. I doubt Aegon III would have done anything to it, even though he was scared of it. But who knows, he might have snapped at some point the same way the Mad King did, lol. P.S - I'm also very confident that non-targaryen dragons did exist, since there for SURE would have been some dragons that were not living in Valyria when the catalcysmic event happened. It just makes no sense for any dragon to ever leave Valyria for who knows what reason. As can be seen in HotD not all dragons bow their heads to humans. This makes it virtually impossible that over the centuries no Valyrian dragons have just escaped and went to live elsewhere. So I'm confident there are other wild or tamed dragons around the world. Just the people of Westeros and Essos do not know about them. After all this world is in the medieval age, communications over large distances are unreliable. You can even take examples from the real world. For example how the Romans and Chinese had a trade route, but pretty much knew nothing about each other.

i like to think that all these dragons like silverwing or sheepstealer just flew westeros by instinct, remember, whem Bran was dreaming about the PRESENT world he saw dragons flying in Ashai, so we know dany dragons arent the only ones left alive, theyre just the ones domesticated. Also, the dragons being tied with magic could explain why no dragons hatched after the last one died in Westeros, like, if the bigger ones flew, there was just not enough magic left in the continent to make them hatch and grow health. This teory would be a good lore alternative if the Maisters conspirace were never to be confirmed.

In regards to Sheepsteler and Nettles it is probable that their bonding could've been a primary factor in Rhaenerya's accusation of treason as Nettles' questionable heritage undermines the Targaryen Exceptionalism Doctrine established during the reign of Jaeherys I Regardless of the official accounts the fact that anyone lacking strong Valyrian heritage is able to claim a dragon represents a serious threat to the power of House Targaryen and could be the real reason for Rhaenerya demanding the death of Nettles after two of the Dragonseeds had defected as the queen could ill afford to allow a person whose existence undermines one of the core pillars of Targaryen power to wander freely or live at a time when the strength of the Targaryens is at it's most tenuous Given the Cannibal's size and the lack of records pertaining to his existence prior to the Dance along with his penchant for feasting on other dragons it is highly unlikely that he lived before the Doom as his existence as a wild dragon is very noteworthy and his feasting upon dragons would likely have not been tolerated by House Targaryen especially in the early years of the dynasty If size estimates are accurate it is likely that the Cannibal is roughly the same age as Vermithor yet his behavior is mysterious at best and indecipherable at worst but given the lack of records on the habits of wild dragons it is likely that they are a rare occurence or that no records were written prior to the rise of the Valyrian Freehold The scant records of the the life of Morning and the later years of Princess Rhaena could suggest the possibility of foul play given the dragon's relatively young age at the possible date of their demise along with the few credible records of the later life of Princess Rhaena the likelihood of the Maesters' Conspiracy makes this possible The fate of Silverwing is fascinating to say the least if reports can be relied upon they suggest that after the second battle of Tumbleton she became distraught after the loss of her mate and the death of Ulf the White meant she no longer had any reason to remain this suggest that extreme trauma can lead dragons to become feral Regardless the fact that no definitive records of Her death leaves the final fate of Silverwing open to interpretation as with many of the surviving adult dragons The fact that the last dragon born under the rule of House Targaryen was unnamed fits with the accounts of Aegon III having disdain for dragons yet what is remarkable is that despite her diminutive size she was able to lay a clutch of three eggs suggests that dragons are able to reproduce relatively young regardless of whether they reach the size attributed to adulthood Her death is the strongest case of the existence of the Grand Maester Conspiracy to eradicate magic in all its forms yet we must not forget that her death only marks the end of dragons in Westeros as the species could exist outside the known world as Sothoryos and the lands beyond the Bone Mountains are relatively unknown to scholars of Westeros

considering cannibal is likely from a wild line of dragons we can't use balerian as a way to gauge whether or not he could have died of old age as different species of dragons could very well age differently, now sheep stealer and silverwing along with morning are targ dragons and it's very possible that 1,2 or even all 3 are alive even in GoT but sheepstealer and silverwing which be pushing the limit the targ dragons can reach as they would be over 200 and balerians cannon age at his death was 220 years old, i also suspect silverwing or sheepstealer was the dragon skeleton dany found in the red waste when she was passing through which would mean they lived past 153 ac as the skeleton they found was just as big or bigger then vhagars as it was stated you could ride a mounted horse through it's jaws and throat which is the same statement vhagar gets when described her skull in GoT, morning on the other hand has a high chance of being revealed to still be alive in GoT as she was only 22 when last seen and considering she only disappears rather then dies rheana could have very well decided to fake her death and hide her far away from the kingdom out of fear that a paranoid aegon the 3rd or others in westeroes would try to kill her so morning could very well be lurking some one in the GoT timeline as she would be younger then vhagar was when she died if she is infact alive in GoT and could possible be one of the dragons bran sees in his vision of vishai as he does see or more dragons flying around in vishai which is actually believed to be the place dragons originated from and the people of vishai were the ones who taught the valrians how to tame the dragons living in valaria around 5000 years before the events of GoT

Balarion the dread had parasites after being taken by " forgot her name" who also had these strange creatures inside her and didn't die of natural causes. So, with that said, there's no telling how long dragons could live.

Isn't there a prophecy about waking sleeping dragons could it be that these dragons are not even dead but they're asleep in hibernation somewhere for example the rumor Dragon to be sleeping or hibernating under Winterfell also what about the reports that there are dragons in asshai what if they went to a shy because it's so magical there that could be where these dragons that people presume are dead may actually be

Also he was from the high rank of Valyrian house, Targaryens were minor/middle positioned house, so Aurion's dragon was probably bigger, stronger, longer living creature , because he was from high quality breed, if in ASOIAF were some creatures that could return to Valyria and survived there it will be that dragon, also I think, but I am not so sure it was slightly mentioned in the book, that it could be dragon, but I don't know if is it only thing I want to believe.

Reasons why I root for Daemon… It has nothing to do whether you think he’s an asshole for killing his wife or you think he’s a badass for killing over 15 guys in the Battle of the Stepstones. Or because he rides Caraxes. The reason why Daemon is so cool is he excels at mostly everything. He gets things done. Viserys was the weaker brother who didn’t get things done because Otto poisoned his mind about his own brother. Otto is the real troublemaker. The keyword is mostly. HBO did give Daemon an erection problem like Tormund saying how Jon Snow had the smallest penis he had ever seen. HBO trying not to make Jon be completely perfect. Daemon being the second son failed to be king. Has never been a good husband. But if you look at his talent/skill set, he’s basically a Renaissance Man who was great at every job Viserys put him in… Swordsman? ☑️ Warrior/fighter? ☑️ Dragon rider? ☑️ Commander of the City Watch? ☑️ Master of coin? ☑️ Master of laws? ☑️ He was great as a knight, prince, protector, dragon rider, chief of police, treasurer, lawyer, and he gambled and won a lot of money from it. He was popular among the common folks, hence, Lord Flea Bottom. Then add being compassionate younger brother and loving father. Daemon wasn’t some jack of all trades but master of none. He excelled in all those jobs. That’s a cool character to enjoy and to watch. His charisma and sense of humor similar to Han Solo are just gravy. You can add dragon scholar/historian reading books on his family’s history. He was an extremely proud Targaryen. Team Green: Daemon is an asshole! He killed his wife and nobody seems to care. But when Criston kills Laenor’s gay lover, everyone hates on him! You know, Team Green/Booger, that’s true. There is a double standard that Daemon gets. But Daemon killing his first wife, was that any worse than Anakin doing what he did killing innocent children? But isn’t Anakin/Vader the most popular character in Star Wars? I think Vader is the bigger asshole but fans still worships him including me. The Joker killed and fans still love him. Loki killed and that Loki series is my all-time favorite on Disney+. Tony Stark can act like an asshole but Iron Man is still the most popular character in MCU. Same with Johnny Lawrence in Cobra Kai. Homelander is my favorite character in The Boys. I’m not rooting for Daemon because he’s perfect or he’s some saint. He’s far from being a saint. I root for Daemon because he’s an excellent all-around character. He’s versatile, complex, and practical to be allies with. I’m hearing Aemond this season is obsessed trying to be like his uncle. He worships him like Kylo Ren was a Sith poser because he idolized Darth Vader so much. Aemond is Daemon’s No. 1 stan. Like Kobe and LeBron idolizing Michael Jordan by imitating him, wearing his No. 23, and making a Space Jam movie. Aemond = the pretender to the throne He’s the cheap, fake imitation of the real one known as DAEMON TARGARYEN. Aemond is the most badass character from Team Green when he will never be as legendary as his uncle. Root for the wannabe but he isn’t beating the OG. Daemon = Darth Vader Aemond = Kylo Ren Daemon = Heisei/MonsterVerse Godzilla Aemond = 1998 Zilla Daemon is basically Jaime and Tyrion if they were one person. Add Bronn’s sense of humor and some Loki being a second son who wanted the throne but still loved his brother like Jaime and Tyrion had for each other. And Loki is regarded the best character in MCU. Iron Man is the more popular character but Loki had the far greater story arc.

The Cannibal has so many connections to the current books in my opinon. He is black with fiery green eyes and a vicious temperament. You know who else has black hair with fiery green eyes and a vicious temperament? Rickon Stark's direwolf Shaggydog. Where is Shaggydog right now? The island of Skagos, inhabited by... cannibals! While I don't think the Cannibal is alive after all this time, I do think we will see what remains of him; likely a skull or skeleton on the isle of Skagos. Maybe even an egg or two!

I hope they make it so that Aegon III. has Dragon Dreams and sees that the Maesters are conspiring to kill dragons and/or that the next few Targaryen generations are dangerous and unworthy which could mean the end of Dragons and the Targaryen and if that would happen Dragons wouldn’t be there to safe humanity from the white walkers and other dark times and therefore hiding dragon eggs in Westeros (like the crypt of the Starks and the Gods eye Island etc.) and hiding Dragons in remote regions of Westeros (Skagos and isolated valleys in the Vale, etc.) and Essos (Red Waste, etc.) with his father Daemon who assumed Tyland Lannisters identity after he returned to Westeros (starting to wear a hood and a silken cover over his disfigured head and face).
