The reason the gyro was going short is because a perfect gyro does not go forward but goes sideways. To get it to go forward it must a small amount of topspin.

Guy in black is missing gyro because he is hitting ball too early in motion and creating sidespin underspin instead of gyro. If he does a few times with wrist cocked down the whole time he will get gyro.

At 9:32 you said gyro is sidespin but you strike under the ball. Actually that is not true. Hitting under ball creates corkscrew spin and not side spin.
