World Rugby, Greetings from Auckland New Zealand, as you all would know, It's our winter over here in NZ, Our All-Blacks had a bit of a hiccup, in their Playing, & Us Kiwis, don't like it, one bit, But we see that Our coach has come right. Because, we won't stand for it (losing) we don't like it, & I would say, that he will be out of a job if it happens again. but apart from all that, it's good to see young American guys, getting into the swing of it. No, it's not easy, with the scrums, line-outs, knock-ons, 10mtr scrums, Forward passes. So keep up the good work,,, Gib

Rugby is a passion that cannot be taught to cross over athletes. I was born into the game of rugby by standing next to my dad on Saturdays watching and learning for many years before I even attempted to play. In my playing years I would have racked up roughly 100 matches and most of those played at high school level. We used to talk about the step-up level, can I step up to club level from high school, can I then step up to provincial level and then the ultimate achievement playing for your country. I never made it past club rugby third side and that is how our country picks its players from a base. This has to start at junior school level. You might pull off a win or two with your cross over athletes, but when it comes to a world cup tournament, and you have to keep the tempo up and this is where experience coupled with your passion for the game will carry you.

America has the potential to be number one in the world if this is done right. That means growing a base of huge proportion. You have population 6 times bigger than South Africa and 72 times bigger than New Zealand. The knock on effect financialy would be far more substantial if is done correctly not only in higher pay, but a lot more families would benefit. America has the best resources to tap into this in a big way, and I am not talking just money but your people fit the profile and shear numbers are a huge bonus.

I don't think it's hate, but decades of many restarts that have amounted to losing to countries the Eagles used to dominate - Uruguay, Chile and now looking on from the outside in repechage in the RWC. We play rugby here, we need to develop the rugby players here for our rugby to get better here. Domestic rugby tradition needs to be built on for years and decades, long-term goals not attempted quick weekend fixes. I'll support that effort, and the USRFU needs to get onboard.

Rugby is not a thing in most U.S. public schools and football, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis, lacrosse, golf, wrestling and soccer/futbol get first choice and are supported by public school districts. Youth rugby is only supported by local ex-rugby players in the States. Most Mens/Womens clubs play on scrubby public fields. The USRFU have squandered a lot of goodwill and support over the last 3 decades. Looking at the AAU programs and development of the MLS over the same period can only call USRFU efforts an abject failure.

Some Americans don't actually realise just how fascinating their rugby history is. They won Olympic Gold not once but twice against very good (and bitter) French teams in the 1920s with very little support. Most players historically to have represented the US largely came from California. OK...as an outsider, we all know some pretty amazing things come out of Cali. Now, just imagine what could happen if 49 other States joined the Big Dance! Just saying 😉

Believe it or not a lot of the attributes, needed to play rugby union, can be found in basketball and American football, a lot of basketball and American football players, are crossing over to rugby, basketball point guards can make good backs and halfbacks with good training, American football players, have the best chance for crossing over, defensive and offensive linemen can make good front rows. Also besides clubs, if you're going to college, consider joining one that plays rugby union in the NCAA

USAR needs to spend some cash and bring more experienced foreign coaches from the big rugby nations. A big way you will elevate this team is by bringing in individuals who have lived the sport since they were in diapers and can bring the mindset and know-how of the top nations. No offence to Scott Lawrence, but it will be a very long time until a MLR coach is not on the same level as a SA, NZ or French union coach. I get that nations want someone who has that sense of patriotism, but a team like Ireland have shown with Andy Farrell that you don't need a local to elevate your game. Just don't hire Eddie Jones 😅

Guys were very openly against the sport going professional because they believed it took away from the essence and culture of the game. Hence clubs have salary caps. The superbowl is nothing but a concert with occasional game play. The sole goal to make huge money. Rugby looks at upholding the culture and the rich history of competing against each others countries. It's old for conflict with rich history. I also think you underrate the level of commitment to sprt in school. Soort is compulsory from 7 years of age. We have 4 school terms and you are required to play atleast one sport in each term.
