I use the bridger dogless #3. Much easier to set especially when your fingers get cold and when wearing gauntlet gloves. I also use the Belisle 330 body trap. A bit expensive but the Jaws close all the way. Duke is now making a 330 that is like the Belisle but less expensive. I'm going to give it a try.

Question ❓❓❓❓, what do you do with all the meat of the beaver you catch????.

We eat some, most of it gets fed to our dads dog and a lot also goes to the fur buyer who uses it to feed to his other critters.

Saw a news article about a 19year old "under investigation" for shooting a wolf in St Germaine on the northern duck opener. The article said he was with a 13 and a 14 year old and the wolf was shot at 5 yards. Sounds like a young man forced to make a very adult decision with 2kids. And the only thing he did wrong was he forgot the shovel and the next step...

You guys need to use drowning rods. Quick, light and fast
@outofthewoodyardАй бұрын
We have a couple dozen and we do use them IF there is enough water close to the bank AND IF we have a bottom that is not solid rocks like most of the creeks we trap.

@@outofthewoodyard I have the same as you guys rocky bottoms. If they’re to rocky I go to rebar. Your tie plate set up is slick to.

Chris and Ken trap enough beaver every year I'm sure they have tried about every tip and trick. They've taken all of the short cuts that don't cost them animals and if you still want to trap it's still going to be work. I've tried sandbags, rods, bricks they all worked in the right place but a 330 works almost everywhere with the least amount of weight to bring in.

Wow!! Are beavers considered a pest? Not complaining, just trying to get educated. LOL, there sure doesn't seem to be a shortage of them! Do you eat them, use the furs, feed them to all those barn cats, stuff them all for a yard display? I live in Ocala, Florida, no beavers near me. Lately, just hurricanes...
@andystampfli9127Ай бұрын
Beaver can be pests but they are a natural, native species that needs to be managed before things like culverts dams and levees give out taking our roads, farms, and other infrastructure with them. Example is hurricane Katrina. The levees held but gave out at the peak of the flooding. Because the nutria dens in the levees make a air pocket under water. Fill the bank up and the air wants out. It's just a matter of time. Beaver creature their own dams. They are the only other animal on earth that can change the environment to suit it's needs. You might have a nice field next to a creek that is a pond in a matter of days. Corn, beans ,cattle, grass... Can't be submerged very long before the roots or hooves rot away. Trapping was the start to settling and developing this continent. Beaver hats were the biggest push but were really just one part of the overall industry. The Hudson Bay company just went out of business in 2021. It was the largest fur market in and through North America for over 300 years.

Also the castors ( a gland in the beaver) is used in expensive perfumes and makeup. Tails were an oil source but having tried them bear oil was better and lard beats both.

@@adrianwhitehead6238 I had a big long thing of why we beaver trap on here ... Either KZbin or Chris took it down. Long story short yes they are a problem if not properly managed. Vanilla... And I thought it being in lipstick was disgusting.
