How good is this lightweight, high thermal value, cold-weather jacket for sub-zero temperatures? Designed by world-renown Austrian military producer Carinthia. Known and regarded to be "tactical hyperquality", and I agree. Have a look...

Thanks man, why you don’t buying the lig 4.o over this lig 3.0

I prefer to use a thermal hat instead of a hood because a hood can shift to cover your peripheral vision sometimes and get in the way when you try to turn and look over your shoulder etc, and get stuck on branches and bushes etc so I went for the LIG 3.0 without the hood. I guess in the future I will have to buy the LIG 4.0 or find an alternative. Also you cannot hear properly with a hood on but a thermal hat you can lift over your ears to hear when you need to. Additionally can use a thermal hat when sleeping without having to wear the entire jacket etc plus more easily replaceable, can just switch hats when one is dirty or sweaty etc.

Hello. Thank you for the video. I was very interested in this product, so I watched the video like this I want to know about waterproof, windproof, and ventilation. Can you tell me in English? And tell me about the disadvantages of using.please~

The jacket is not a waterproof jacket. It is water repellent - resists absorbing water. IMO you can use it in snow and very light rain (drizzle) without a waterproof jacket on top. For anything heavier than very light rain you should wear a waterproof jacket on top. The LIG has a relatively high windproof function; I would say up to 20kmh wind you will get very low air penetration but it is best to use it under a hardshell for higher winds. Ventilation is in my experience excellent when used at appropriate temperatures; +7 to -10C. After two months use I can say it is an excellent product. Please give the video a like if this information helps you; this helps me to have the video promoted by the KZbin system.

Thank you so much for your reply. So, are the MiG or HIG waterproof jackets among the carinsia products? It's a Gore-Tex windstopper. Wouldn't it be appropriate to use a hard shell because it doesn't have good ventilation? Let me know if you know anything about Hig and MiG's waterproofing and ventilation.

Hey. I haven't had experience with the hig or MIG jackets (both are carinthia products) because I prefer to keep my insulation layers separate from my waterproof/breathable layers mainly because the washing requirements and intervals are different for those layers and because I prefer to be able to replace a damaged/ripped shell without having to replace my insulation layer. Another advantage of separating these layers for me is the ability to switch different insulation garments under the same waterproof/breathable shell for various environments and the ability to put the soft clean insulation layer inside my sleeping bag at night whilst keeping the dirty and stiff waterproof/breathable shell out of my sleeping bag; usually between the bag and the bivvy. Additionally with a separate insulation layer eg this lig you can even use it under a semi formal jacket or just under a casual jacket around town, something you are unlikely to want to do with a clearly militarily styled heavier jacket, however I would expect the hig and MIG to be of very high quality based on my experience with the lig.

The sleeves I find to be normal but I'm a stocky guy. Maybe for a taller body they could be short. They also have good wrist baffles which could extend their effective length by +-2cm. I would suggest a large based on the fact that you will wear something underneath and you are concerned about sleeve length, plus a bit of extra coverage in winter is usually not a bad thing. Where do you plan to buy from?

@@ironkid8836 No problem very happy to see comments. I'm a 45 inch chest (measured at the widest point) and I fit into an extra large here. I must advise you that I wouldn't recommend this product for temperatures above 9 Celcius if you are going to wear it under another jacket or with other thermal clothing. Under a rain jacket I find the carinthia lig to work well from minus 10 (heavy rain jacket and thermal undershirt) to plus 5 Celcius (lighter rain jacket and normal long sleeve shirt), during light to medium movement. If you will wear it alone it would be appropriate from 0 to around 12 Celcius - maybe as a city jacket, which it would be suitable for because it packs down very well. For no-movement scenarios (guard, observation, fishing) it would keep me warm at 0 Celcius with a jacket or at plus 7 without. Basically it is a useful item under 10 Celcius in various combinations. However when you add in wet weather and wind Which can contribute significantly to the perceived cold I think you could use it up to plus 12 Celcius, but I would say the ideal range for this item is minus 10 to plus 5, in various combinations with other clothing. Unless you are within that temperature range or just looking for a very high quality, light and packable warm jacket to be used with a t-shirt from 6 to 12 Celcius you might find it's too warm. I personally avoid using this jacket alone only because I am sometimes pushing through thorny bush etc and don't want it punctured. The other problem is that once you get over 5 Celcius you are in rain temperatures which can force you to wear a rain layer, and as I've mentioned above the LIG can be too warm when used with a rain coat above 5 degrees, unless you are standing still or are generally a person who gets cold very easily. I would not want to be hiking in rain at more than 7 degrees with this jacket underneath a rain coat unless it was a short hike because I would find myself sweating almost immediately.

whats the negative rating for a combination of defence 4 and toopen sleeping bag.
@mpireoutdoors5274

Minus 20 Celcius comfort. Minus 40 Celcius survival. Such temperatures are no joke. Test the equipment yourself in a supported environment before you go off grid. This comment is subject to my normal legal disclaimer. You might also consider the snugpak options - similar thermal performance but smaller pack size, less durable materials but ok if you look after them (in those temperatures the sleeping bag should be treated like gold in any case), non-integrated breathable waterproof layer which can make it easier to wash and maintain, allows to dry the sleeping bag and the waterproof bivvy separately, which I find good. Also allows for various surface treatments or impregnation treatments which you may want on one item but not on the other. Having the insulation bag separate from the weatherproof bag also means you can use the system across a wider temperature range; if you are in a tent and it's not too cold you can use the insulation bag without any weatherproofing bag etc. Also useful to be able to match the camouflage of your weatherproofing layer to various environments. Although I've heard good things about the carinthia bags and I'm impressed with the carinthia jacket I am also very impressed with the Swiss insulation in the snugpak bag and the small pack size.

@@mpireoutdoors5274 Thanks for the reply. Are these rating inside a tent or out in open??
@mpireoutdoors5274
@mpireoutdoors5274 3 жыл бұрын
No problem. Most low comfort temperature ratings are for "a fit male in good health, on a very good mat inside a very good tent". Ie they are best case scenario. The upper comfort rating is for a female in the same scenario. If you are simply exhausted or didn't get a good meal you might find yourself cold within the low comfort ratings. If you are planning to do things in such temperatures then I may advise a packstove and some hexamine tablets as an external heat source. I have some winter videos coming up where I will be in minus 10 which you might find interesting (coming in about a month).
