Worlds Fastest Baja | PART 1 | First shake down run! | Horsepower United

UPDATE 09.06.18 --- Just days after I uploaded this video we took this boat to the Shootout at lake of the ozarks. With just 93 octane pump fuel in the tank, and with a race course of just 3/4 of a mile. (it used to be 1 mile) this Baja ran 117mph on her 2nd pass.
That 117mph in that short of a distance not only claimed her title as the "Worlds Fastest Baja"... it made us aware of how much more potential it has if it was turned up (and the drives could take it)
Since that run, this boat has wrapped up hundreds of miles doing poker runs at Lake of the Ozarks. And finally claimed the "Top Gun" aware for bravo drive in 2018.

THE BACKSTORY: This video is shot just days before this boat headed to the Lake of the Ozarks shootout, where boats from all over the world come to run down the lakes closed off speed course. However, this year marked the big change in the event...this year's course was shortened to just 3/4 of a mile. Since its now a short run, we knew that acceleration was going to be key.
I AM HONORED: That Chad the owner enlisted/trusted me to make some last min changes to his combo and tune these amazing Whipple supercharged big blocks...but time was running out to test the boat with all of the new changes. So just days before the event, Chad the owner loaded up the boat, and headed to the test lake at daybreak! Due to me having to catch a flight to Nashville we only had 1.5 hrs to load a tune into the Holley ECU's and make a couple quick hits. And this is the footage of just that...

Staggered those engines and you will pick up 10 mph. It shifts the CG and that particular boat LOVES a staggered set up. I know because my Dad raced the Baja B-36 which is the only staggered 36 Outlaw ever built and it was bad bitch.

It's incredible those bravo xr drives can handle that much power, why aren't using surface drives(6 's or even imco's. I'm curious to know what props your using. Probably garden variety Bravo's or maxis. Cool boat I have an 88 force 260 that's still running great!! I'd love to find a late 80's sport 240 if you know of one.

My 20 ' had a 260 hp 350 did 60 in the right conditions. Naturally that wasn't enough . The 383 stroker I built balanced to run all Day at 6000 rpms now cruises at 60 at 4000 rpms haven't taken it to about 5500 to see what it will do near wide open . Wot between 52 and 56 hundred.

Cause I can't tune it on a trailer... this is the closes lake that is large enough to be "safe" in the early AM hours. That way if something happens or a part needs to be changed, its only a 1.5 hour drive home... and not 3

I never took the time to edit the video. :( But she set the record at 117mph on a quick run. The previous record was 108, so he didn't feel the need to run again last year. With the RPM only at 6,200 on the data log, it proves that she had about 124 mph in her, if another run was made. However didn't want to tear up the drives for no reason. (since the record was already his)

What size boat and what horsepower engines? Those look like only merc 600

They are 557 cubic inches, Dart Blocks, AFR heads, 60mm cam tunnels, shaft rockers etc. Those are 8.3L superchargers, so about 3 times the size of a Merc 600 unit.

The boat as done 117mph already, and props are good to about 124 at the current revlimiter. The issue is just trying to be safe,... no reason to see what she will do long term at 100% throttle yet. :)

This lake is very small, and we were in a secluded area, to make sure we wouldn't upset or harm any other boaters in case something went wrong. No topspeed known yet... its been 117 already in just 3/4 of a mile run. But next year the goal is to go 124 to get the overall "Top Gun: Brave drive" title.

This boat went 117 to set the 3/4 mile record a week after this video. That 117 number was achieved on pump gas... with the motors turned down. She has also logged over 250 miles since this video. Hopefully I will get to editing those videos soon.

On the dyno with better fuel they were at 1,600 per motor. However for the shootout we ran 93 pump gas and turned boost down to 13psi. So in the range of 1100-1200.

That wiggle is because we crossed our own wake a few times. The lake we test at is VERY small. There is a video of this boat running at the shootout strait as an arrow going 117mph. HOWEVER, unless someone beats the record this boat now holds, it will NOT be attempting another max effort run, due to safety reasons. (don't want to break a drive)

Thanks... the good news is this is a family boat, that has never had more then 50% of the power on tap used. So who really knows how fast it could really go if it was on calm water, and ran for more then a short little burst. Right now its just fun to do runs up to the 117 mph area, and let all the 70 mph boats fade away... Its just a good solid boat, that gets lots of smiles per miles. :)

102.5 actually. The boat did 117mph in 3/4 of a mile at last years shootout on pump gas. (AKA: turned down) On the full boggie tune each motor makes a touch over 1,600hp So with 3,200hp on tap, power is not the issue. Being gentle with the throttles so it doesn't break drives is the issue.

You can "WOT" it with the pump gas tune. Just didn't in this video since the lake was to small. You can see the dash in the video, cruise speed is over 70mph, before even rolling into the throttles. I rode in the boat in the last (2) poker runs and she would maintain 85-93 mph and wasn't even making 1 psi of boost. Literally cruising down the lake. Its a serious piece of machinery.
