I gotta say I love the way that Ben asks questions and drills down into something if he's not sure of something.. I'm a bit fan and advocate of bringing that way of thinking back. I think a curious mind (at any age) is a healthy.

Just lost my best friend and wife of 22 yrs. 3 weeks ago. She was my sanity guide on life and on the Harley. If she wanted to go faster she would put a finger between my ribs. If she wanted to go slower she would squeeze her legs. She's the reason I am alive today. I understand how important it is to have a great person that you trust wholeheartedly by your side and in your ear. I'll find my way through life but right now I'm lost without her... Congratulations on your achievement sir!!! You deserve all of the respect!

In 1994 I attended a lecture at Brooklands by Richard Noble and Ron Ayres about Thrust SSC. During questions and answers at the end, I pointed out that the SSC fuselage and intake arrangement reminded me of the Buccaneer jet. To which Ron Ayres replied “thats because I designed the Buccaneer”.

One thing I respect the most about Andy Green, besides the fact he has the balls to go supersonic on a salt flat, is that he understands how every little piece and knows about every little nuance of the car that he broke the record with. Very intelligent bloke. And also Ben, thank you for not doing the typical KZbinr thing of cutting his utterly fascinating sentences short. Best interview I have ever listened to. Genuinely.
@Doesnotcare12

Two top blokes. I remember watching Andy as a 17 year old get this record and I've watched every documentary on it. As a R.A.F brat watching lightnings,phantoms,u2 planes and red arrows train, Andy was a hero of mine and still is. As you Ben I wanted to be a pilot! I actually am kind of a pilot but it's a Remote Operated Vehicle pilot under water. It is a thrill to do and pressure mostly cost based but nothing compared to life and death plus i suppose the cost of the jets.

This has been one of the best Interviews I have seen. I met and spoke to Andy @ Goodwood in 2018 , where they displayed their demo, mock, Bloodhound LSR and was looking for funding. Andy was and still is the right Person for the job. I followed Bloodhound LSR before and during the testing ( daily updates on the Bloodhound LSR : KZbin) on the Pan near the Border of South Africa and Botswana. ( was looking at driving up from Durban and camping when the Record attempt was to take place). Alas, Covid and the lack to secure a Major Sponsor has put a hold on the record attempt. I wish Andy and the Team all the best and hope that the attempt will still materialize. Thanks again for an excellent Interview.

I remember having a conversation about the rear wheel steering and the wheel flanges with Sir Richard Noble back when I was about 18 in 95/96, we chatted for quite a while about the setup and why it wouldn't just spin out with the first little bit of input from the driver at speed, that was until Andy came over and stopped the conversation, Richard was a real nice guy to chat with, very knowledgable and down to earth, consequently, I donated about £100 to the project and am so glad I did, one of my little claims to fame knowing that I helped TSSC break and hold a world record for many years.

Great description of the solutions to " breaking the sound barrier" which FYI is "Trans-sonic instability." The shock waves moving around both reaching and slightly faster than speed of sound. At Mach 2 they have long disappeared and why the Concorde at Mach 2 was quiet. Now as their record is past that problem speed, now solving for running something at Mach 2 on wheels would be someone's challenge to break this record. I imagine what they went through, today would be solved by "fly by wire" tech used in aircraft.

I was 13 when they set the record. 12 when I met Andy Green and Richard Noble next to the Thrust SSC as a member of the Mach 1 club.
