25:32 The manual seems to suggest it's a backup: "In addition to manually shifting gears on the touchscreen, you can select a gear by pressing [one of these]. In most situations, these buttons are not available until you press one of the gear buttons to activate it". "In situations where the touchscreen is unavailable (for example, experiencing a technical issue), or Model S is in Valet or Transport Mode, the gear selector on the center console activates automatically and there is no need to touch it to activate it".

Gotta love Tesla's "groundbreaking engineering solutions" they put a sticker on the control arms to advise wrecker drivers not to hook there. Installing a few "D-rings" or pick up points on the frame would have been the old school way to solve that problem and we can't have that. Also Tesla loves to claim their vehicles have no moving parts besides the motors like they forget about the 637 actuators, pumps, valves louvers and vents for the cooling system.

Poorly designed, poorly assembled.
@jpinto3912
@jpinto3912 3 жыл бұрын
If you pick any initial build of any car, you'll see that kind of thing... bolts badly torqued, fasteners the wrong way, leaks, even missing stuff. You'd need to spend resources on assembly/disassembly sessions of new products with all people to train them. Corporate middle spheres get a lot of cost-down pressure, so they just have dealers/service centers to deal with defects under warranty work.. the owner doesn't like it? tough. They don't see how BAD a 150k build with defects after a week of ownership really looks like on a 1million+ YT channel.
@porcelainthunder2213
@porcelainthunder2213 3 жыл бұрын
@@jpinto3912 not nearly to that extent and that consistent among all the products they make. The QC department needs to be fired. A lot of it is just simple poor design and engineering. There is NO EXCUSE for that crap on a car that costs that much. Its embarrasing. Especially as a new company, they should be striving for quality, but they never have and have a bad reputation as a result. My late 90s Hyundai was screwed together 10x better than that thing.
@verygoodbrother

@@porcelainthunder2213 He/She is correct, that's the nature of the game. My mum's E class at the start of its life spent more time at the dealership and with the owner. However my A class had no issues. Then take the VW ID3 with all the software and hardware faults that are finally being rectified. Just have a browse of any owner forum and you'll see these sort of complaints.

@@verygoodbrother not with the build issues Tesla has had. There is no excuse for vehicles to leave the factory like that. And this isnt really a new vehicle its a refresh, and a lof it is just plain poor design.

You could probably still mount a small 12v lead acid battery in the frunk in a box and keep jumper wires next to it. Then if you need to supply emergency 12v you can do it more easily. You'd probably just need to top up the battery manually with a charger every few months to be safe. You could do this with all Tesla vehicles.

I'm a tow driver. That's why I always use the I-bolt screwed into bumper to tow. Especially on electric cars. You don't want break to auto engage as you yank out the suspension. Lol

Let's try a Plaid, or any EV, at the Indy500. Indy car engines used to be built just durably enough to do the 500 mile race, 100 miles of practice, and 100 miles of "just in case". But can any EV do the basic match of running flat out for 500 miles without throttling itself down?

Cool tech, but definitely undercuts the argument of many Tesla fans that the cars are simpler than an ICE. I agree that buyers are getting their money's worth for the price, if upscale features like air suspension and monster brakes are must-haves. Much cheaper to buy those in a factory design than a later retrofit, and makes it more valuable decades later as a collector, though few Plaids will live such a delicate life. Some Tesla owners claim no more cooling system issues, but that will likely prove the opposite. The oil leaks bring snickers. A base Model 3, or VW ID.4, is slightly simpler than most gas sedans, though much more expensive. The Leaf is the simplest battery-car (air cooled), but still pricey. Wide adoption requires better and cheaper batteries. That lack is what killed the first GM EV (heavy lead-acid batteries, short range).

Rich is right. The yoke and controls are downright stupid. This Plaid is not a driver's car. There is still a place for turn signal stalks, Shift controls, horn buttons, windshield wiper/washer stalks and steering wheels.
