Hey Stefan great to see you fly again. My gliding lessons are going great, my instructor says I will be flying solo next summer! 👍

@bonitron50572 ай бұрын
@SteFly2 ай бұрын

Ausgezeichnetes Ergebnis beim Wettbewerb Stefan.

A thought has just occurred to me, a non-glider pilot. Thus…Could a full size glider carry an external thermometer in order to indicate when one has found the warmer air of a thermal? In addition of course to the altitude meter beeping accordingly?

Hello Stefan, will the final version of the vario have a square screen like this prototype or will it have a round screen to fit the round 57 mm format?
@SteFly2 ай бұрын
It will have a round screen 👍🏼

@@Krispzz At some days it got very busy at landing. But the runway is long and we were also allowed to land on the taxiway.

Amazing how fast your average speeds are! I dont know though - I still think you all fly differently because you have the back up motor? maybe more aggressive
@SteFly2 ай бұрын
No, usually there is no difference in the average speed if you have a motor or not. Perhaps at the very critical days where you know you will need to land somewhere, some pilots are pushing a little bit more and are relying on their propulsion system. But also at our "outlining" day I started my motor at a farm strip.

MC 3.0, wasn't it too optimistic ?
@tinchote2 ай бұрын
Whatever it was that he did at Uvalde, it worked crazy well.
@SteFly2 ай бұрын
To be honest, I don´t have a close look at the MC value for the speed to fly. Fun fact: I was flying with the ASG29 polar in XCSoar because I was too lazy to create a custom polar for the AS33. For me it´s only important for the final glide calculation. At the end I don´t know if a speed to fly with MC value is still very helpful with modern sailplanes. But the new vario technology is amazing to use energy lines very efficient.
@tinchote2 ай бұрын
@@SteFly Absolutely. Already in the late 70s and early 80s Ingo Renner favoured fixed speeds as opposed to following a flight director as many did back then. My own feeling out of my experience is that there is more to lose from extreme speed angle of attack changes than the small loses from not flying at the perfect theoretical speed. Some successful pilots I've meet tended too fly faster than the theory on bombastic days, and slower than the theory on poor days; it seemed to work very well for them; of course the most important part of the equation is that they flew along the best lines between thermals. I assume that the crazy good gliders of today like the AS33 have such good performance that it makes sense to fly super fast all the time. As for using the 29 polar instead of the 33, I'm sure that the random differences in lift and sink along your path are way bigger than the polar difference between those two birds. Anyway, congrats again, Stefan. Winning consecutive worlds, one in the mountains and the other in the flats is really really impressive.
